We have machine pistols, revolvers, and PEW PEW LAZER BEEMS, so why not shotguns, too?

I've always appreciated the psychological and physical effect of these wondrous,
dangerous tools of destruction, and I KNOW there are like-minded individuals out there.

So come on over, friends, and tell me what you think.

The inestimable boomstick line would have multiple features in common:

Rather slow firing speed, with one or two exceptions.
Bullet spread, like the autoguns, except not.
Low range. I mean, it's a SHOTGUN.
Amount of pellets fired increases with Star rating.
Somewhat slow charge time.
Long reload time.

FOR EXAMPLE:

Coach Gun

One veteran Knight had this relic stashed away in his quarters,
and recently came out with a very good- and working-
copy made from spare parts.

Normal damage

Low Damage

Two-Shot, Four-Pellet Spread

Very Slow

One-Star

Chance of Knockdown/Stagger on target.

Charge Attack: Increases range by 50%, Increases damage by 30%, Reduces spread by 50%,
Knockback on user.
_________________________________________

Flechette Gun

Like a shotgun, but now, instead of boring pellets, it fires
scrap metal found in the Clockworks! Take care while firing.

Piercing Damage

Low-Med Damage

Two-Shot, Four-Pellet Spread

Quite Slow

Two-Star

Charge Attack: Increases range by 50%, Increases damage by 30%, Reduces spread by 50%,
Knockback on user.
_________________________________________

Lever-Action Shotgun

An average shotgun fitted with a lever-action reload device,
increasing firing speed.

Basic Damage

Low-Med Damage

Three-Shot, Five-Pellet Spread

Medium Speed

Three-Star

Charge Attack: Increases range by 20%, Increases damage by 30%, Increases Spread by 30%,
Fires four rounds in 1.5 seconds, user is stationary while firing.
_________________________________________

Dispersion Rifle

One Tech Knight thought physical ammo just wasn't cutting it,
so he whipped this up. He's wrong, but hey! New gun!

Elemental Damage

Med Damage

One-Shot, 45-degree Spread

Slow Reload

Three-Star

Low Chance of causing Medium Stun on target.

Charge Attack: Increases Range by 50%, Increases Damage by 30%, Wide Beam instead of
Spread Shot, Fair Chance of causing Medium Stun, Knockback on user.
_________________________________________

Wave Motion Gun

We advise against firing this near anything. Ever. For serious.

Elemental Damage

High Damage

One-Shot, 50-degree Spread

Slow Reload

Five-Star

Fair Chance of causing Medium Stun on target, Fair Chance of causing Medium Death on Target's Family.

Charge-Attack: Increases Range by 50%, Increases Damage by 30%, Wide Beam,
Very Short-Range Spread Shot, Good Chance of causing Heavy Stun on Target, Knockback
on user and target and possibly world.

Hopefully, this gives you some idea of what I'm angling for.

So please, give me any thoughts you may have.

Neat idea

It would most definitely be a fun addition, but the actual use is debatable. They could be perceived more as a mix between swords and guns.
Just my 2 cents.

Opposite to another newcomer?

How about normal range and deals more damage if the target is close?

@GallantPyro I can see your

GallantPyro:
I can see your point, but right now, swords only seem to have a small area of effect in front of them, aside from the Troika line. These babies would have a larger/wider attack radius than a sword.

Xyonon:
You'll be doing more damage if they're close anyway, you'll have more pellets hitting home.

Pump shotguns with pellets please ^_^

Yeah, I'd like to see shotguns too. :P

Normal Damage with maybe a small chance of weak Stun and a 2-shot before reload limit (unless you pace it slowly, same as any gun). This is what I'd do.

Well, I don't mind the idea

Well, I don't mind the idea of a shotgun (heck, any game with guns should have one)

But really, all I'm seeing is an autogun with faster firing animation and longer reload. Heck, it's the problem with the autogun in the first place - that it's essentially a shotgun in slow motion, not what you'd expect a fully automatic gun to be.

What MIGHT work is like a reverse Pulsar; the bullets start out strong and get weaker (but still go from small to large?)

Responses!

Well, Over, the idea is a wider spread with bullets that appear at the same time, instead of a quick burst. I was thinking about random spread, but that could get irritating at points, even with more pellets. The last thing you want when fighting is a seven-ten split, right?

And Gia, there is a good selection of lasers right now. For instance, the Alchemers. I don't count them in the same category as the blasters because it's a ball of focused fire/ice/what-have-you, instead of energy.

So, anyone else?

laser

To balance the shotgun idea, knights should not be able to move when firing and pump-ing the gun with a more noticeable effect than the Magnus.

@marcusdranz I think that with laser he's refering to some sort of beam weapon that's continuosly firing, like you know a laser. The alchemer just throw a colored ball.

like this

i would say this would be like a heavy sword for the gun line needs to do a lot of damage with a good spread and a shutgun would be a great addition.

Umm... No, Dogbob.

They're the same like a 12-gauge and an SMG are the same.

Hint: They aren't.

The shotgun would fire all of its pellets at once, as opposed to the autogun, which fires over a period of time.
The only similarity I can see between the two is they both shoot things.

While instant, powerful

While instant, powerful bullet-spread seems overpowered, you could balance it out by making them pump-action. That is, make them have to reload after every single shot. And/or you could give them the range of a scuttlebot blast.

Balance Ideas

Well, the idea behind these is a rather slow firing speed, long reload times, and slower than normal movement while firing. They'd have less range than the other guns, but most definitely NOT Scuttlebot range.
Reloading after every shot's a no, considering the reload time.

...Just looked up top. I'll add the reload time.

I agree with OverDingle and

I agree with OverDingle and Dogbob, it sounds like you're asking for an improved version of the autogun since you mention being able to move while shooting a shotgun. What does slow firing speed even mean? Are you talking about a long drawn out animation between when you press the shoot button and when the shot actually appears? And then a long time for you to put the gun away again? Or are you just talking about a longer wait time between shots like the alchemer as compared to the antigua? The former makes the shotgun useless while the latter makes the long reload times useless and will probably make the gun overpowered.

Clarification

You will move slower than you already move while walking and firing, and the time between shots will be longer than that of the autogun's. I think that's a fair trade for the extra projectiles and spread.

And... why would I want to suggest an increased draw animation? That just doesn't make sense.
