We did Not ask to play Bomberman in SK, we wanted to play PVP like during Beta... Remember each player killing the other with sword battle like in Beta in the Arcade.......... what's the hell's going on OOO Three Ring? for crying out loud! take this PVP off line ASAP!
i feel sow ashamed of my self as a Beta Player, everyone asking me about PVP and me showing them pictures i toke during beta at the arcade and info about the sword battle between each other or free for all, and everyone sow exited to play the PVP system and what did you bring back, The worse Bomberman game in history. im sow ashamed as a Beta Player, I WILL NEVER PLAY PVP AGAIN DURING THE LIFE SPAN OF SK!
What is this PVP all about? What were you guys Thinking of?
Overreaction much?
OOO wanted a PVP mode that's equally accessible to all players regardless of gear level, and they came up with a mode that's interesting in that it definitely fits in-world, is different from normal play but the majority of players will already know how to play.
There's a fair chance a regular pvp mode will be one of the modes they announce later on. We will regularly be receiving new pvp modes, and they may even phase unpopular ones out. But what we have now is a fun minigame that any player can enjoy as long as they have 200 cr, in which doing well consistently is pure skill and not related to how much money you've spent on having every 5* equip in the game.
if i wanted to play Bomberman i play it on my super nintendo system not in SK for crying out loud. if you were beta player you should know what im saying or talking about.
if Crazzywave of all people doesn't like the new PVP, what does this say about the future of Spiral Knights?
:(
No Crazzywave! Please don't leave!
That's it man, SK days are counted. We need to bring Crazzywave back to PvP, we can't let this happen.
Oh god, please god, help us.
I think I have said it 20 times, but I think regular old PVP will be extremely boring. At least this has the option to do it with teammates or guild members. I am hoping lockout is a sort of player mission like game, were it has a objective. If they put in regular 1 v 1 pvp all that is going to happen is people standing 2 feet away hacking or 2 gunslingers firing shots across a arena while going in circles. I guess if you consider that fun, have a go at it. More than likely whoever has better weapons is going to win.
Good to know people don't pay attention when they said there will be more updates and more to come.
:D
If they add in PvP mode where it's basically players fighting each other, they would need to set it up so that you have a list of pre-set gear setups to choose from. That way it's not a matter of the uber players who have infinite money always winning because of their god gear.
Of course, the whole lag thing makes PvP kind of silly anyway.
Played a bit earlier, and I kept killing a couple of guys over and over because they were lagging a bit. So they had no chance in hell.
Even though it let me keep winning, it's completely unfair.
PvP doesn't work if there's lag issues.
The only justification for the thread's existence would probably have to be the humorous responses.
Crazzy is not pleased? I think the devs ought to reconsider!
Honestly if they give people the PVP they had in Beta, someone will walk in swing a DA and walla win. It will be attack button spamming until someone wins. THIS GAME DOES NOT NEED REGULAR PVP.
@N3cR0m4nS1r
If you don't like it, don't play it. No one is forcing you to play it. Some people actually like it. And OOO WILL be releasing new PVP stuff soon, in case u haven't noticed. Hopefully the stuff you're talking about so there will be no more complaining and outrages. Actually, there probably will be some outrages about sword/gun battle pvp.
Is that the answer you guys have for anything? If you don't like it, then deal with it and don't even attempt to share your opinion about this with anyone at all?
It's pretty obvious Crazywave isn't one of the brightest ones. But every damn time someone makes any kind of complaint it seems you guys just jump and scream "DEAL WITH IT", completely ignoring any actual reasoning and issues at hand, no matter how exaggerated they might be. That's just plain stupid. But anyway.
And OOO WILL be releasing new PVP stuff soon
The issue at hand is: How soon? Is it soon enough for any of us waiting for actual PvP action to actually care anymore? (Answer: Probably not.)
Even after preview screenshots and information is released, it always takes a few days for Three Rings to actually release the content. Before anything is even revealed about it, besides basic information/names, it usually takes weeks to months, as you can obviously see.
Us beta players have been waiting for The Core ever since the last preview event started. They'd constantly talk about it being on the works, being awesome, hopefully coming soon, but nope, we got nothing. Post-release, there hasn't been a single word from devs about The Core.
...though this is something else entirely. But really, if it took Three Rings THIS long to release the Blast Network, I can imagine they'll be extremely paranoid about "classic" PvP modes, so no one should expect it to come in the next week(s) or whatever. And I have honestly waited long enough to be just plain disappointed by now.
@Sturak
If they add in PvP mode where it's basically players fighting each other, they would need to set it up so that you have a list of pre-set gear setups to choose from. That way it's not a matter of the uber players who have infinite money always winning because of their god gear.
Gear doesn't really play much of an advantage as skills. Back in the beta, PvP was separated by tiers depending on gear star rank, though even so, I managed to win often using 3-4 star gear against 5-stars. The only true "OP" things back then were Sealed Swords and Antiguas - Antiguas were severely nerfed so I'm pretty sure they'd be pretty much a joke. And it's not impossible to create gear sets to play against "mainstream" weapon load-outs or whatever.
@OverDingle
But what we have now is a fun minigame that any player can enjoy as long as they have 200 cr, in which doing well consistently is pure skill and not related to how much money you've spent on having every 5* equip in the game.
Copying what Sturak says about this:
Of course, the whole lag thing makes PvP kind of silly anyway.
Played a bit earlier, and I kept killing a couple of guys over and over because they were lagging a bit. So they had no chance in hell.
Even though it let me keep winning, it's completely unfair.
PvP doesn't work if there's lag issues.
Sadly, this is true. It doesn't matter what kind of PvP we get - Lag will always end up getting on the way, and in the end, it'll be a matter of whoever is luckiest to not be sent flying into enemies' attacks, or on the less laggy days, whoever has a better connection to act first. (For connection, it'd be a latency/ping issue rather than actual major lagging. This is inevitable for players who live far from the servers) Considering getting hit on Blast Network means instant death, and a partial loss of your current upgrades, lag ends up being much more serious in it.
It has barely been two days since it was released, and this doomsaying? Really?
I personally think they've been on a very fast schedule for new content and that we'll see more of what they have to offer within a few weeks, maximum. The next mode already has an entry -- it's basically been announced.
Whether or not it will be the kind of PvP you think is "right" for the game is up for debate. Obviously the massive PvP feedback thread must have told a very different story. I for one requested a mix of different game types, and I am hoping for a chance to use my equipment in combat at some point in the future, but I appreciate the accessibility of Blast Network and genuinely enjoy playing it.
Look, Crazzywave, kakelgis shows you how to give constructive criticism! Maybe you should learn something from that.
The issue at hand is: How soon? Is it soon enough for any of us waiting for actual PvP action to actually care anymore? (Answer: Probably not.)
So, Blast Network doesn't interest you, and it disappoints you to watch it roll out before anything that you are interested in. That's understandable, but please remember to speak for yourself, and not to imply that you speak for a legion of others who for some reason can't speak for themselves. We have access to hard numbers and stats; we'll be able to tell if Blast Network doesn't interest anyone, or if people are dropping out. The most valuable feedback you can give us is about what's on your mind, and I thank you for doing that here.
Even after preview screenshots and information is released, it always takes a few days for Three Rings to actually release the content. Before anything is even revealed about it, besides basic information/names, it usually takes weeks to months, as you can obviously see.
Content takes time to produce. No amount of armchair project manager-ing will get around that.
Us beta players have been waiting for The Core ever since the last preview event started. They'd constantly talk about it being on the works, being awesome, hopefully coming soon, but nope, we got nothing. Post-release, there hasn't been a single word from devs about The Core.
The Core is not forgotten. I have seen pieces of it with my own eyes. It was wondrous to behold.
And that is all I can tell you about that, except that you're going to have to sit tight for it a while longer. ;)
we wanted to play PVP like during Beta
Actually, the feedback the dev. team received was that Previewers HATED the old PVP system and preferred a nicer, mini-game-styled PVP. :s
So, Blast Network doesn't interest you, and it disappoints you to watch it roll out before anything that you are interested in. That's understandable, but please remember to speak for yourself, and not to imply that you speak for a legion of others who for some reason can't speak for themselves.
I think it should be obvious that talking that way is more of a way of causing an "effect", rather than actually "speaking for a legion of others". It's certain that someone will always have a different opinion, no matter what. Whenever someone uses arguments like that it's really more of to give their message more "power". No one is really crazy to expect everyone to think the exact same way as they do!
But I suppose it's easy to give the wrong impression with this, so I apologize. It is my individual opinion, and it was used to give more effect to the message, rather than to claim I am mindcontrolling the world.
Content takes time to produce. No amount of armchair project manager-ing will get around that.
Although I'm pretty sure content could roll out a bit better/faster, considering other games I watch as they are developed, I'm not really complaining about the time it takes; Though myself in the end, I end up losing motivation to play by the time new content rolls in, if it's developed at this pace. In Spiral Knight's case, since there is low to no new endgame content or whatever that would truly interest me, new or old, I end up quickly losing a lot of interest.
In PvP's case, I just felt it took far too long to release simply a single mode of PvP, considering we already had a ready "vanilla" deathmatch and all back in the preview. I believe many members have commented how they wouldn't mind if it was just the same old PvP, they just wanted to have a bit of fun with it. For me, Blast Network feels more like a minigame than PvP. And latency issues and all weight much more in it, making it difficult for me to actually enjoy it.
The Core is not forgotten. I have seen pieces of it with my own eyes. It was wondrous to behold.
I'm sure it isn't forgotten, and I'm sure Three Rings is working hard on it, but there hasn't been a single word about it ever since the preview. (well, now that you talked about it, there has) It just feels silly; Three Rings was very excited about it, and it seemed to be their main objective. Simply going completely silent about their "main project" suddenly is just plain weird. Feels like they just don't consider it to be that important anymore, which doesn't make much sense.
And that "while longer" is not very pleasing!
@Dirt - From the posts and stuff I have read around the forums, most people either would like the classic PvP or didn't care for it - I didn't really notice many people actually bashing the old style. Except for the silly people, but they're silly. Though I haven't really lurked the forums much for a few weeks now, so I dunno, the opinion might have changed from when I would actively read about it.
I'm speaking from what I know the developers responded to and actually took into account when developing the new PvP system, not so much the current feelings of Previewers and the like.
I, for one, did not like the old PvP system. Being that you could bring your own gear in and use it made it rather lopsided towards certain lines of gear, as you said. I would be willing to guess it's impossible to balance the gameplay for PvP alone without affecting other aspects of the game. I don't know that for sure and neither does anyone else other than maybe the development team, but I have heard from other Previewers far more experienced than I about how unfair and, in fact, stupid the old system was. It just was not fun and in a VIDEO GAME the point is to be entertained. While one person may enjoy using their superior gear to have fun, the other seven participants would likely be miserable. Especially if they are of a competitive nature.
> Simply going completely silent about their "main project" suddenly is just plain weird. Feels like they just don't consider it to be that important anymore, which doesn't make much sense.
You're right, it doesn't make much sense.
When we go silent about a topic, what it means--all it means--is that we are not releasing new information about it at that time. It is unproductive to speculate about the mindset of the staff, though I know it's tempting to try. For example, I am personally excited about a whole lot of stuff that hasn't been mentioned recently (or at all) , but you won't hear me wax effusive about them until the time is right. You could take that as lack of enthusiasm, or a sign that nothing is happening, or an indication of Impending Doom, but you'd be dead wrong.
@kakelgis
But every damn time someone makes any kind of complaint it seems you guys just jump and scream "DEAL WITH IT", completely ignoring any actual reasoning and issues at hand, no matter how exaggerated they might be.
Reasoning? Show me some reasoning in first post and I won't ignore it.
OP is totally wrong - many players suggested mini-games that one can play without energy and gain some minor rewards for it.
"We did Not ask to play Bomberman in SK, we wanted to play PVP like during Beta"
We? Who are "we"?!
Personally I hate PvP and I've never asked for it. If it was up to me, PvP would be at the very bottom of OOO to do list. I'm a beta player but I haven't played PvP during preview, not even once. I'm not an aggressive achiever who crave to prove his superiority over others. Deal with it.
Please speak for yourself, not community... and open your mind.
We have access to hard numbers and stats; we'll be able to tell if Blast Network doesn't interest anyone, or if people are dropping out. The most valuable feedback you can give us is about what's on your mind, and I thank you for doing that here. - Eurydice
To be fair, this really doesn't mean anything. If you released "Lockdown (whatever it is!)" or just a straight up Brawl mode like in Beta, you'd get a bunch of people joining because A. It's PvP, B. It's new., and C. The rewards are amazing. You could've released just about anything that wasn't broken, and you'd get similar results due to the reasons mentioned.
For what it's worth, I like Blast Network. It's fun and casual-friendly, while still having a skill curve. But the unspoken legions and I crave a PvP mode where we get to actually use our acquired gear. My hope is that after Lockdown is that you guys just release a straight up Gear-Based PvP for those who wanna use their gear and kill one another. There will be events for those who don't like the all-out, hardcore fighting that would be in something like a Brawl or Deathmatch or even Capture the Flag with acquired gear. But for the heavy and hardcore gamers, something to use our gear and beat one another up is very much welcome.
Thanks for the responses and attention in this thread. Good feedback :)
kakelgis kakeglis you new bee if you knew what you were talking about i give you credit, but like your a new bee... let me know and i will kick you booty in the PVP just for one time sake ok kid. and what the hell! all of these copy past message?? stop copy paste the same message around, if you cant give me your own idea..... i see you cant even think for your selfs....
and thank you all your grate supporter that suport me in the forums, you guys rock!
@Krokgar: It doesn't really mean anything IF you only look at the short term. It's correct that the early data, where everyone's piling into Blast Network (or whatever other thing) just to see what it's like, isn't the definitive picture. So it's good that's not the only thing we'll be watching. :)
These few days have been really boring for me. Everyone's in pvp, and its boring soloing the clockworks. :'(
Pvp is a fun, cool variation.
It's something else you can do then only killing mobs.
And indeed, if you don't like it, just ignore the update and live on.
Just those afkers.. pff..
i'm one of the legion kakelgis speaks about and i believe there are more who just think "meh" and keep their mind to themselves or moan ingame.
blast network is fun but if i wanted to play bomberman i grab a gameboy. (maybe you can put up a mario kart pvp mode? maybe add zelda costumes? please?)
Why not simply release the beta pvp, but give every equip a "pvp balance value", make all damage/defense normal and then buff/nerf stuff by just statistical analysis?
Then everyone would be happy.
The OP feels that Three Ringo Star's PVP, which features bombs and men who place them, is so terrible it should be purged from the internet.
He/she then proceeds to talk about postnatal pigs and makes a reference to Bomberman: Act Zero.
All in all, a very interesting bit of text. The nonstandard punctuation helped make it a visual treat.
2/10
Why not simply release the beta pvp, but give every equip a "pvp balance value", make all damage/defense normal and then buff/nerf stuff by just statistical analysis?

That would be quite boring, actually. You might as well just give everyone preset gear. I wish they would just bring back the Super Brawl from Beta. Why not? Seriously, why is it not out? If players don't want to play it, then they won't. They have Blast Network or Lockout when it's available. A feature of the game was removed for something better. That "something better" is considered worse by people who actually want to fight players, and not this mini-game baloney.
I wasn't CRAZILY excited about the PvP thing, but I confess I imagined it would be a kind of brawl. There is nothing wrong with the idea of making it a quirky mini-game where gears are balanced - I'm all for it. As for ripping off Bomber Man, I guess that's fine, too, it makes sense inside SK and that was a hell of a game.
But THIS game is absolutely stupid!! The graphics are terrible and nothing is visually accurate. You can never know if you're gonna get hit or not, you never know where the explosion is going to stop. It's a mess! Sometimes I couldn't even spot the players themselves amidst the haze of the bombs. Bomber Man had clear-cut graphics for the bombs and they exploded in a clear, solid explosion that made it possible to visually understand what was going on. Not to mention that the characters were easily visible and it was much easier to know how many bombs you could set...
Pitiable. And boring. And, IMHO, unplayable.
But I'm fine playing the normal SK. =)
I really enjoy the new PvP mode, in-fact I think it's better than what was in the beta. Now I didn't play that, but from what I saw on YT everyone was going around pretty much 1 hit KOing each other with swords and frankly it looked extremely frustrating. THIS mode is great fun, a break from the norm is always welcome in my books and theres a great element of team work when you work together to cut enemies off and watch them move back and forth before being blasted by two bombs at once 8D
I, for one, really enjoy Blast Network and eagerly look forward to the future PvP modes. If they're even half this fun, they'll still be amazing.
I'm staying with the Blast Network purely of the recipes and trinkets. However, I don't get as much excitement from blowing up (or get blown up by)
enemies as well as teammates as kill Royal Jelly or Vanaduke. Bomberman is a good classic game, but I don't think it is that brilliant to incorporate something entirely different into a game like SK.
Right now what's ticking me off are the movement system ( I got sanwiched between my bomb and another bomb, and i cant escape :/ ) and the bomb blast radius ( It seems that the kill zone comes before and is larger than the animation.)
For the record plenty of people were hoping there would be bomberman pvp.
The game lends itself easily to it.
Blast Network is fantastic. Thank you, Three Rings.
This is so much better than a capture the flag mode you could find in any other MMO would be.
What i dislike about the pvp is that the movement system isnt one tile by one tile like bomberman so you can be on two tiles at once. So you may think you are safely behind a wall but you actually are partially on the next square and get killed by the bomb
what i mean is, we dont really have to complain since this is not the pvp that would be released anyway...
http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Pvp
this is... SUPER BRAWL....
and we cant complain that the coliseum is "the" pvp... because its not
and the real pvp is not released yet....
what (in my opinion [just so to stress it out]) this is is just a minigame...
something to act as change of scenery
something to act as a crown sink
something to offer a new way to make equips
something to look forward to (since there are other modes of the coliseum [just in case no one realized that the "lockdown" event would be released in the future and a new one after that and.... etc..])
true enough the concept player VERSUS player lingers there (in the coliseum)... but many complain because it is not the usual PVP they normally see on other games...
Super Brawl will be that answer... so to all who complain WAIT FOR IT
just in my opinion though... sue me if you like
Oh, oh! So we're going to wave with our beta tester badges and play the "I'm playing this longer than you, therefore my kung-fu is superior" game? Can I join? ;)
I enjoy the new pvp/bomberman clone/watchacallit much more than the pre-release variant. It's a nice, casual mini-game, which is very accessible and conveniently fills these half hour gaps when you don't really want to or have the time to start a new run any more, but also don't want to log off yet. While I understand the desire to show off and use hard earned gear in pvp matches, I think it was wise to go for a version without gear to start things off and give everyone a chance to play. This prevents pvp from getting shoved into the lonely corner of "not my kind of tea, can't compete anyway" where it pretty much sat lurking during beta - enjoyed by a few who were into it and had the right gear, ignored by most others. At least that's my impression.
I can't wait to see what comes next. (Snipes vs Zombies, anyone? :p) I bet we'll see some gear based pvp as well at some point.
And in the meantime I'll happily make stuff go boom. Weee!
I'm calling it now, Three rings will NEVER EVER NEVER make any sort of PVP even LOSELY based off the original beta PVP!!! Why? Becuase they don't like doing WORK. I Have always defended three rings the way a knight would defend his favorite king, but when the king sleeps with your wife, IT'S GO TIME. I will bet even real life money that the new LOCKDOWN game mode will be a copy of a prexisting game that serves nearly no purpose at all!
Prove me wrong game makers! All you have to do is grow the nerve to wake up before lunch and think of something really cool and useful for once.
I found a sneak preivew everyone! And if it isnt, then I got you some more material three rings! Look at this beautiful useless game! I like to call it, one player lockdown:
http://www.downloadgamesfree.biz/?game=box-pusher
Stop asking for the beta PVP. It absolutely sucked, you ran in with one DA took one swing and walla it was over. Even if you put in balanced equipment, it is still going to be attack button spamming. And plus if you give everyone the exact same armor and weapons people are going to complain because they can't use their own unique weapons.
Personally I hope we never have the Beta PVP and OOO keeps adding in games that take some strategy and have the ability to be cooperative games. This game does not need 1 v 1 arena style PVP.
Stop telling me not to voice my opinion. You conld make a all default PVP or something, mabey have a choice between torkia, calibur, spur, and cutter, plus some guns and bombs. I'm sick of you ignorant people telling three rings to not do their job, building new things and FIXING old things. /And i never said 1v1. The fact that you are putting words into my mouth means that you are too stubborn to have an educated argument with.
Too stubborn to have educated argument with? Have you even thought of what a regular brawl PVP will be like? Next you will be the moron complaining when it is just to "the same" all of the time. No variations or anything. Well durr that is what you want isn't it? Give somebody a few swords lets run into a arena and start swinging! No need for strategy whoever gets more swings in wins! I know you want to complain because you want regular brawl PVP, but please think what it will be like.
Becuase bomberman and depth play has strategy wise guy. Look, I am thinking, and I say nothing without thinking. I'll admit you don't sound like a mindless drone anymore, but I'm still holding my ground. I'm not syaing no variations. You could have strong armor, or fast armor, or armor with a damage bonus, many variations of swords, guns, and bombs. It failed once and you guys just can't bring yourselves to dive in again.
It will fail again. If you give people guns then all the people with guns will do is run away from people with swords and shoot at them. Bombs? Freeze a person charge your attack and take one swing to kill them.
Bomberman can have a strategy when your in guilds. We have basically planned out a point in the map to unleash massive amounts of bombs and the whole guild retreat to one side. It does pretty well in killing everyone.
We shouldn't have just a large brawl or even 1 v 1 pvp because the objective will be kill the other person in a mindless no strategy way or just a extremely easy way of freezing then killing them. We need objective based games, like capture the flag, capture a teams castle and hold it.
With current lag no matter how you look at it this PvP is simply unplayable. At least for those with lags. If all servers are situated in the US, the game shouldn't allow international players from outside of US/Canada to register at all.
I have nothing against bomberman-styled PvP as a side dish in Spiral Knights, if it didn't lag. Though it completely eliminates any sort of need to:
a) play the game, go deeper into dungeons, explore them, hunt down monsters - 200 crowns is easily made from 10-50 energy and first few levels
b) buy energy, 200 crowns and 0 energy price allows everyone to play infinitely, and there is no need to buy expensive gear. Basically, its a completely free to lag PvP where your gear doesn't matter.
Kind of stupid, if you ask me. Add lags and its both stupid and unplayable.
^Are you quitting? Please do. Beta PVP sucked, most fights I saw ended in one swing. Plus nobody played it because it sucked.
Some people may have lag problems in Blast Network but I don't. Personally it is fun, but I would rather stay in the clockworks where I can get custom gear.
2 pages. wow
back to the origional topic:
i saw a bunch of beta PVP videos on Youtube and basically, it was people 1hitKOing other people with their guns or swords and basicall u kill, die, revive, kill kill kill die revive die revive kill revive and so on and so forth. not very fun. and if whoever is quiting does quit, please gimme your stuff. thank u.
Ok ok, so he said a couple bad words. It was funny, but it wanst a good idea, but you shouldnt send this to the graveyard just becuase someone cant tone it down a bit. But grow up guys, your gonna run into plenty of people who just happen to talk like that. If you cant stand it, go somewhere else. See, this is what hapens when I leave my computer for a couple of hours.
Back to me and codemisters duel, whahahahaaa >_>
You said " If you give people guns then all the people with guns will do is run away from people with swords and shoot at them. Bombs? Freeze a person charge your attack and take one swing to kill them. "
Well, make it so you move very slowly while firing, guns and sheilds wont make you too slow. At very long range, gunners can continualy attack to break the sheild, but at not-that long range a sowrdsman can sheild towards them and attack.
Onto bombs. Just take out statuses for pvp, save for mabey stun. This keeps suppourt fire bombs from being overpowered, becuase while it puts the enemy at disadvantage, they can still kill you if they time it right.
but when you said "We need objective based games, like capture the flag, capture a teams castle and hold it." I agree completely. That probaaly would be the mode I'd have the most fun with.
Now a reply to teos_ef. Logicaly, if everyone is equal skil level (this is theoretical, finish reading before judging), then you wil lose crowns over time. If I win half my team matches, then every two matches I lose 120 crowns net. of course, if i win three matches and lose one, I make 20 crowns. but that means smoeone else will lose more crowns. So someone has to go into depths. And you can't complain about lag, that's just not fair to play the lag card. If you cant deal with lag, go play pac-man. Cause it's gonna happen.
...
not another one....
*facepalm*
If you don't like it, don't play it. No one is forcing you to play it. Some people actually like it. And OOO WILL be releasing new PVP stuff soon, in case u haven't noticed. Hopefully the stuff you're talking about so there will be no more complaining and outrages. Actually, there probably will be some outrages about sword/gun battle pvp.
