Spiral Knights has a great weapon selection, many different kinds of swords, you have hundreds and hundreds of awesome lovely swords. Piles and piles of swords....and unless you want to drastically alter your play-style you don't get much else. There's nothing wrong with swords of course, but I think diversity is what makes games like this great. More choices are always better. So why not add a few new weapons? I'm not saying create an entirely new set of animations and play-styles for these weapons. Simply consider them re-skinned swords. They just look different. They add a different feel to the characters. Weapons like the Thwack Hammer, the Beast Basher, the Slime Slasher, and the Wrench Wand are quite interesting weapons, but sadly they aren't any good. So I've come here with a few suggestions for Mace weapons. And for those of you who think I'm talking about pepper spray, here's some education:

The mace was used on battlefields in the medieval ages and were quite effective, armor might stop a sword slash but a mace will still cave in that armor of yours and crush bone. They were very effective, if a bit unwieldy, weapons. So now onto a few of my more detailed suggestions for these maces. I already thought up a few names and an alchemy path for a mace-shaped weapon set.

2* Mace-
Quasher
-A large orb of steel attached to a handle, an utterly simple weapon made for quashing your foes.
-Fair chance to cause minor stun.
Average three-strike attack similar to the proto sword or brandish.
Charge attack smashes the ground and creates a small shockwave around the weapon. (Similar to the Troika but the shockwave occurs closer to the knight.)

3* Mace-
Crusher
-A Quasher modified by spiral HQ with multiple spikes protruding from the weapon, the better to crush those nasties in the clockworks
-Fair chance to cause Moderate Stun
Strikes just like a Quasher with enhanced damage.
Charge attack is similar to the Quasher but the shockwave has better knockback.

4* Mace-
Solar Smasher
-A Crusher infused with a solar-powered engine that lets out bursts of intense heat. Often used to cook up food while delving in the clockworks, also useful for cooking monsters while delving the clockworks.
-Good chance to cause Moderate Fire
Strikes just like the Quasher.
Charge attack is similar to the Crusher but the shockwave is a wave of fire, the shockwave is also slightly larger.

5* Mace-
Flaming Finisher
-This blazing weapon burns with the malignant power of the torched remnants of the Almire empire, the rage of it's lost civilization lashes out at all those it is wielded against.
-Good chance of causing Strong Fire
Strikes like a Quasher
Charge attack creates a large wave of fire that goes out in all directions around the knights, causing fire and knockback.
(Possibly causes fire damage against the user?)

4* Mace-
Diseased Destroyer
-This Crusher was dropped by a foolish knight into the heart of a Toxigel, after being retrieved the mace had been soaked in toxins and became a surprisingly more effective weapon.
-Good chance to cause moderate poison
Strikes like a Quasher
Charge attack is similar to the Crusher but the shockwave is a wave of green poisonous bubbles.

5* Mace-
Pestilent Pulverizer
-This vicious weapon drips with the venom of a thousand poisonous creatures, few of which have ever even been seen. This weapon was found by Spiral HQ deep within the depths of the Clockworks and was held in Quarantine for weeks before knights were even able to touch the handle of this vile mace.
-Good chance to cause Strong Poison
Strikes like a Quasher
Charge attack creates a large wave of poison bubbles that goes out in all directions around the knight, causing poison and knockback.
(Possibly cause poison against user?)

4* Mace-
Berg Breaker
-This chilling instrument is a Crusher upgraded with it's own refrigeration unit, made to put out chemical fires, chill drinks, and put enemies on ice.
-Good chance to cause Moderate Freeze
Strikes like a Quasher
Charge attack is similar to the Crusher but the shockwave is a wave of frost and snowflakes.

5* Mace-
Blizzard Basher
-This legendary weapon could supposedly freeze volcanoes, even the infernal blazes in the Firestorm Citadel could not warm this chillingly powerful weapon.
-Good chance to cause Strong Freeze
Strikes like a Quasher
Charge attack creates a large wave of frost and snowflakes that goes out in all directions around the knight, causing knockback and(THEN) freeze.
(Possibly freeze user?)

4* Mace-
Crackling Crasher
-This modified Crusher has many loose wires and open conduits across it, making it highly dangerous. Don't forget your rubber gloves when you wield this weapon!
-Good chance of causing Moderate Shock
Strikes like a Quasher
Charge attack is similar to the Crusher but the shockwave is a wave of crackling electricity.

5* Mace-
Thunderous Thrasher
-This weapon was thought to have been wielded by a god of storms, it's blows sound like thunder and strike like lightning. How it fell into the hands of Spiral HQ remains unknown...
-Good chance of causing strong shock
Strikes like a Quasher
Charge attack creates a large wave of electricity that goes out in all directions around the knight, causing shock and knockback.

4* Mace-
Staggering Striker
-This modified Crusher was made by Spiral HQ to disable enemies without being lethal, however with a heavy metal orb on the end of this stunning weapon, that may be more difficult then first believed.
-Good chance of causing Moderate Stun
Strikes like a Quasher
Charge attack is similar to the Crusher but also stuns enemies.

5* Mace-
Dazing Disaster
-This powerful weapon was used by a pacifistic knight who used the weapon's stunning properties to leave his enemies on the ground in pain as he continued on his way.
-Good chance of causing Strong Stun
Strikes like a Quasher
Charge attack creates a very large shockwave with great knockback and causes stun.

I just used the Brandish series as a starting ideas for all the elements, then decided to go through the status ailments(Except for Curse, since Curse is far too powerful) and made weapons for each of them. Anyway, partial thanks so far goes to:

-Tyrannosaurusrex- For helping me think up some names for these weapons. And listening to me list off random names and synonyms for 'Smash'

Anyone who has any ideas about these feel free to post, I'm not too pleased with some of these names (Mostly the Berg Breaker) If you've noticed I tried to have the weapons as 2-word names, each word starting with the same letter. I thought it was interesting at least.

signed and that's all I have for now, hope to get some responses! :D

Hey! I have that mace! :)

But yes, I agree that they need to add another weapon style.
A mace style weapon, which focuses more on stunning enemies (while giving up attack power) would be nice.
There are a couple of weapons that do have a stun chance, but with those it's more of an after thought. Mace weapons should be about stunning first, then the damage they can do.

Awesome!

That's pretty sweet! Maces are great, and their simple weapons, smash stuff! It works. It's effective. And it would fit right in with the Spiral Knights game, where enemies like Constructs and Slimes are all over, things that, when smashed, are not threatening anymore. Swords of course work for things like that too, but a very fun part of this game is finding the cool weapons, mixing and matching your choices, and I think maces would be a great weapon choice for people who are tired of the same old weapons.

signed so yes, another style of weapon would be great

We need some axes as well as

We need some axes/flails as well as maybe some two handed weapons? What about akimbo swords?

Some metallic contact noises could be nice as well.

I'm kinda against

I'm kinda against dual-weapons, unless it functions the same as a regular weapon. Like two antiguas with half ammo each. Maces should just be a new group. You hold down the attack button and your character will start swinging it above his head, however walk slower. It picks up momentum over time, and you release to attack. You can keep momentum if you charged it up allot, but it'll do less damage (but still allot) if you didn't swing it around once or twice. It's kinda a tank weapon, somehting missing in this game. Not that I tank.

Swinging above his head? It

Swinging above his head? It sounds like you're thinking of a flail. A stick with a chain and mace-like head.
He is talking about maces. Sticks with spiked balls.

That being said, I think it is safe to ignore people who suggest dual-wielded weapons. It is a pipe dream at best and its application would be awful. Have fun without a shield, to all who want it.

Two hit swords...

Are still swords. These would basically just be a new skin on the same three-hit swords. Does it make much of a difference in the actual gameplay? Not as much, but it's the appearance that many people like. I think maces would be a pretty great way to expand the weapon appearances.

If anyone else thinks up names for other types of weapons, axes, spears maybe(Using the flourish-style attacks?) Then feel free to post them up.

signed it's good to see that other people would like to see more weapon variety

Mace Ideas

I think that the maces should be 2-hit weapons. The first hit could be a downward smash, then the second would be an arc in front of the user like the second hit of 'heavy' swords. I think that the rest of your idea is great! OOO should really put this stuff into the game!

nope.

that might be cool sounding, but think about it. it would make it to med-evil, which is not at all the theme here. anyone that crashes on another planet probably isnt wielding a mace. im happy with the selection they have, not to much, not to little. and the actual idea might be cool, but the actual idea of a mace or flail in spiral knights would be an epic fail.

Umm...what? No. Swords are far more medieval then maces. Maces have evolved into batons and clubs, truncheons etc. which are STILL used in combat today. If anything, maces are what they should be using more in the Spiral Knights world. They fight mechanical beasts of metal, and giant cubes of jelly. It's hard to CHOP through metal, as opposed to merely crushing it, and cutting jelly just makes smaller cubes of jelly, as opposed to squashing jelly which leaves a nice paste on the floor. Now I'm not against swords, swords are cool, but I'm just saying that technically, maces would be a more effective, and believable weapon for the game world.

Also, scruffy, cool ideas, I think more gremlin-related equipment would be interesting, we have the deconstucter, wrench wand, and thwack hammer already, why not expand on those right?

signed anyway, sorry I haven't posted here earlier, been busy. This needs more support! And it's not just about maces, it's about just new weapons.
