Hey all. This is my first (and possibly only) Spiral Knights fan fiction attempt. With the addition of King Krogmo's Coliseum to the game, I decided to brain storm a possibility to what this curious new face's motives might be. The story will discuss Krogmo's original plans to create the coliseum and will follow a knight who has become a guinea pig for his little games. Feel free to leave comments, questions, and/or critiques -- I haven't posted a fan fiction in a while, I'm probably a bit rusty.

Chapter 1: The Mysterious Monarch
It had been only half a year since the mysterious foreigners known as the Spiral Knights had crash landed on the planet of Cradle. After allying with the Strangers, they began to work together in an attempt to find a way to repair their space craft so they could continue their exploration of the galaxy. These brazen knights learned that the inner workings of Cradle, the Clockworks, held valuable materials and a power supply that could power their ship. Now the Spiral Knights boldly delve into the Clockworks to gather what they need to not only survive, but to hopefully find a way to repair their ship as well...
...But the Clockworks came with a danger as well. Deep inside Cradle, foul monsters and unspeakable horrors awaited those who dared trespass. The denizens of the Clockworks would not let the knights simply step foot into their domain. The presence of these foreigners to the Clockworks has caused a lot of chatter and questions about just what should be done to keep them away from the inner workings of Cradle.
It all began with the fateful encounter in the Gremins domain of the Clockworks...
It had been a long day in one of the various gremlin factories. Despite Cradle's sun not shining into the depths of the clockworks, the gremlins work day was drawing to a close. A couple gremlins had already stopped working and were sitting on the cold metallic ground, talking.
“This is the 10th bot I've had to repair today.” growled a maroon gremlin. He was one of the few who was still working – trying to salvage a broken Retrode.
“I thought we had it rough before, but as soon as those little Spiral Knights started running around our Clockworks, repairs to constructs and various areas of this place went up nearly 100%!” groaned a small brown gremlin.
“What I would do to get my hands on those intruders. This is our domain. Who do those knights think they are running a muck in our territory?” the maroon gremlin said. He had paused on working on the Retrode, wiping the sweat from his head. “I think it's done.” he smiled.
As if on cue, the Retrode's eyes flickered on. “Main systems online, acquiring objective...” it spoke, but as soon as it had sprung to life, the Retode quickly shut down again. The maroon gremlin stomped at the ground in reaction to the Retrode turning off.
A gremlin with a flamethrower had been sitting quietly listening to the others. He stood up and sighed, “I'm pretty tired of these Spiral Knights myself. I've been asking our boss to let me go out into the field and help our comrades defend the Clockworks, but he says he has plans involving some gun puppies and needs some of his workers to keep watch on the factory.”
The small brown gremlin nodded. “I want to stop those knights too, but what the boss says, go. Besides, I've heard Project Roar should be up and running soon and when those little knights come snooping around. BOOM!” he exclaimed. The gremlin began to chuckle.
“I'm getting tired of waiting around, we should be acting now! Those knights need to learn their place!” the flamethrower gremlin shouted.
“Perhaps I would be able to help you.” came a deep voice from down the hall.
The three gremlins immediately reached for their weapons and braced themselves for the strange figure that was walking towards them. “Who are you?” shouted the small brown gremlin, raising a rather large wrench above his head.
“There's no need for violence. I am but a humble business man.” the figure spoke as it walked into the light. The figure revealed itself to be a rather large amphibian. “I overheard your discussion about those Spiral Knights.” the man said with a smile.
The flamethrower gremlin immediately stepped forward and raised his flamethrower at the man. “Quick, go sound the alarm! I'll --”
The man shook his finger. “That won't be necessary.” he chuckled. The man snapped his finger and in an instant, there was a large group of creatures garbed in dark clothing surrounding the gremlins. Their species was hard to decipher from the ninja get-ups they were wearing. “Listen, I'm not here to fight you, I'm merely here for a... proposition.” he said.
The ninjas had grabbed hold of the gremlins to keep them from attacking. The gremlins stared at the man, teeth bared. “Just what is it you want then?” the small brown brown gremlin finally spoke.
“You hate the Spiral Knights. Well, let's just say I have a way to stop them, I have a way to protect all of us from these monsters that invade our homes.” the man said.
“You know how to defeat them?” the maroon gremlin questioned.
“In a sense.” the man chuckled, “You see, the Spiral Knights are nothing more than machines. They survive by harnessing the energy around us. I've been observing them, the energy they harness can only do so much. If they over exert themselves, their bodies shutdown. But the Spiral Knights know better than to go alone. They make sure they have contacts and their high ranking knights scout the Clockworks for fallen allies and return them to the surface. While you foolishly leave the knights to “rust,” they are in fact being helped by comrades. It's futile to leave them to their demise, but my plans are to capture them...” The man paused and pulled out a small blue print. He opened it and showed it to the gremlins.
“...I have found a way to keep the knights from being able to regulate their energy. If you help me, we will be able to contain these knights and meddle with their systems. They will be our puppets!”
The maroon gremlin laughed. “And how do you know your plan will work? We gremlins are the superior species when it comes to machinery. Have you tried to stop the Spiral Knights at all?”
“If I had access to a factory, maybe I could. That is why I want to speak with your king and negotiate the terms.”
“You're mad, no one sees our king! Not even some lowly beast like you!”
The man sighed. “I would watch your mouth, boy, for I have the upper hand in this situation.” he chuckled, “Besides, don't you find the allure of deconstructing those knights, making them know their place. You gremlins shouldn't be pushed around by machine, machine beckons to you! Not to mention, I'm sure playing with some new toys wouldn't be the only thing you get in return.” The man pulled a small sack out of his pocket and tossed it to the ground – numerous coins scattered on the floor. “But I suppose if you won't help me, I can take my business elsewhere.”
“W-what if I told you I knew some guys that could talk with King Tinkinzar?” the flamethrower gremlin stuttered. His fellow gremlins eyed him, fearful of his plans.
The man clasped his hands together. “Can you really?”
The gremlin nodded in reply.
“Fantastic, how about you try and get him to speak with me tomorrow?” the man said. He pointed at the ninjas, who released the flamethrower gremlin. “But to make sure you are going to, I might have to watch over your friends.” he added. The man turned his back, as if ready to walk away.
“That's fine.” The gremlin rubbed at his wrists, a slight pain from being grasped so tightly. “But one last question, who exactly are you?”
“People like to call me King Krogmo, but you can skip the formalities. You see, I have been aiding the Chromalisks and the ones who consider themselves part of the Rektilian empire. I've been trying to get the denizens of the Clockworks to band together and fight back against the Spiral Knights and in return they have begun to call me a hero... a true king you might say...”
Very good, very good! Even better than my own stories! Keep up the terrific work!
