Sk has some trouble with the accessory update.

first error i got was the same as vanloki described in in this thread http://forums.spiralknights.com/de/node/27767 that the updater was not able to download the new patch within 5 attemps.

Now that i reinstalled SK and erased the SK file completely before installin it again and downloaded the getdown and digest txt. to replace the crappy ones another error pops out -.-

Now it says as in the subject written " the appbase is missin in the configuration - file"

Open the getdown and digest

Open the getdown and digest files and see if its full of garbage text. If it is, then you'll need to do another manual replacement.

Go to proxify.com , and enter the links below in the main field. Do a "save as" of the resulting page, and make sure to name it properly.

Did NOT work, just getting another erromessage

Hey

I reinstalled spiral knights again and before starting it for the first time I did the manual replacement you suggested.
I used proxif.com and copied the whole text in a nex .txt file and saved it under the proper name.

BUT

I now get another error message , as it says: the overview - file is invalid..
and the download gets stuck at 0%

In german it says ( cause I' playin on german servers) "übersichts - datei"

another translation may be summary - file or something comparable. Hope u get the meaning.

And please do not make me wait so long for an answer =p

just hat to change the way

just hat to change the way the proxyserver connects !!

now having another problem

validating download starts and works

then sign in screen appears and there is sayd that i have to updae my client
and automatic update starts now

but after that the screen turns black i automatically change back to desktop
then to the sighn in screen again where the same is written as before that my client is invalid and i have to update.. blablabla

to conclude I'm stuck in an infinite loop

-> seems like SK is not "allowed" to install things on my pc or use the internet connecion like this , but iI don't know

would be kind of u if you tel me how it's done or what files u need of me to ;)

This might be solvable. Open

This might be solvable. Open the Windows control Panel, then look for the Java icon. Open it up, and it should show you the Java control panel. Under the first tab, on second row, click on the button for Network settings. In the new window, pick the second option "Use proxy server", and put suu.wh-wiley.uni-ulm.de as the address, and port 3123. This will force java to use the local proxy server (its right there in what you posted), and hopefully will be able to pull what it needs through it.

As for your first question, unicode is one of a few common encoding format used in text files. Unicode is particularly useful since it can support characters in multiple languages, and is the dominant text formatting for the web. The problem though is that I think the 2 files are supposed to be ANSI formatted, so being saved as Unicode changes the checksum on the file. Anyway.... that doesn't really apply, since the proxy server seems to be the root of your problem right now.

The resulting file is ~450MB.... I might had been able to cut it in half, but I don't know how to tell it to unpack the jars without actually breaking them first.

Will post the link once its done.

Ok, I'm an idiot. theres an unpack.dat file in the SK root that, when not present, will tell the launcher to unpack the jars. Gonna add that to my bag of tricks.

New packed file size is ~250MB.

Unfortunately I forgot that

Unfortunately I forgot that Steam distributes a java VM with SK, and doesn't use the system Java. This causes a big problem since some of the global system settings don't get applied to the portable jvm, making it difficult to make changes without some cleaver file hacks.

I don't do java development, so I don't fully understand how/where configs get stored, or how to force custom settings outside the system control panel.

Delete everything inside the

Delete everything inside the SK folder, then unzip the contents of the file into the directory and run the game. The patcher will detect a problem, then try to unpack/validate the game files.

As an added bonus, its already upgraded to Java 7 because I forgot to check that before packing everything up.

Don't celebrate yet. Your

Don't celebrate yet. Your gonna go through this head ache every time theres an update unless you can find a way to get updates reliably. You'll want to talk to the network helpdesk about proxy settings to use for game clients, noting it does use HTTP, but can't behave like a browser.

Alternatively, if your on a laptop, you can go to an internet cafe or hotspot to get updates, then head back to your room to play. If your on a PC, you'll have to get creative if the proxy won't cooperate with you.

I have a suggestion that

I have a suggestion that might work.... I think.... well, hope actually.

the proxy.txt file can influence the patcher's behavior when it connecting for updates. The problem is we haven't found who lives behind a proxy, and knows enough about it to see if this works or not.

I suspect it only works simple HTTP proxies (so it doesn't help the game client, just the patcher). Open the file in notepad and use the formatting below:

host=(proxy IP address)
port=(port number)

If your behind something more complicated like a SOCKS or hotspot style proxy (where you login to a webpage first, like at Starbucks), I have no idea if this will work, or will even be relevant.
