Ash of Agni vs Shivermist Buster

I currently have a Cryotech Alchemer Mk 2 and I'm not having much fun with it. I have an Ionized Salt Bomb, and I liked bombing, but... it had a problem with missing :P

So I decided I want to go bombs as my secondary and I'm thinking between the Ash of Agni and the Shivermist Buster in terms of damage output and overall effectiveness.

I'd want to go Agni, but can enemies on fire set you on fire as well? I think I've observed this but I have no conclusive findings.

Now the Buster, I like the CC potential, but I'm concerned with damage potential.

So - would the Agni lead to me getting set on fire? And does the Buster do respectable damage?

My View

Having both bombs before I have to admit the Ash of Agni is fun, but it has 1 drawback cant use on fire levels or against oilers. Pretty much its a good bomb besides that it wont light you on fire, and it does great damage due to *Fire damage*. The Shivermist is also another great bomb, if you know how to use this bomb well its easily 1 of the best in parties, and its pretty good just solo'ing as well if you can time your attacks right etc. I would recommend the Ash to start off with and later on get the Shiver.

Only some enemies set on fire

Only some enemies set on fire can do the same to you, such as oilers. (And this is because their attack becomes flame-element, so....yeah.)

I see. I always run with my

I see. I always run with my girlfriend, and a lot of times a mutual friend of ours joins in and he's going with the Shivermist line, so I guess I'll try going Agni. - Also, I so despise Flame Lash Arena - Slimey Showdown! I think that's the main reason I'm hesitant to go Fire.

shivermist

shivermist. i'd rather freeze em in place, then bash the hell out of it with a quick striking wep and then freeze again. also theres two parts to the damage for enemies. one is the inital blast (if in the range they take elemental dmg) and again when they naturally thaw out (im not too sure if that was still elemental damage)

Thaw isn't Elemental

The thaw is not elemental, but is instead based on an individual monster's resistance to freeze. If you go to the Shivermist tab here, there is the raw data. Guess I need to integrate it into the wiki some time soon. http://tinyurl.com/skdmg

I would say that this depends

I would say that this depends on your ability to make multiple 5* items (financially) as well as how far you are in T2 and also if you ever plan on visiting the Fire Storm Citadel.

For now, due to the patch and your topic, I will assume that you would only like to choose one bomb. If you are still mid T2, the Ash will simply make your runs much, much easier due to its ability to DPS a huge radius. The only situation you wouldn't use the Ash is obviously oilers as stated above; however this encompasses a very small portion of runs. It is a very excellent damage dealer. The Shivermist in T2 is not really as useful. Arenas and danger rooms are where they shine but otherwise you don't really need it.

If you plan on continuing to T3 the Ash is still viable; however if you plan on replacing your Jelly runs with Fire Storm, obviously you cannot bring your Ash. A Shivermist in the Citadel is very, veeeeery useful. Therefore you must look at your endgame plan and your financial ability. What would you like to do at T3? Would you like to grind the Citadel? Can you invest in an Ash now, and then in a Shivermist later, or perhaps in an extra weapon slot?

In conclusion, if you only have the ability to make one bomb now, and would like to endgame in T3 and the Citadel, a Shivermist would be the better investment. If you are a ways to go to T3 or don't plan on the Citadel, then the Ash is the better investment.

In my opinion the Shivermist is a better bomb as its practicality is limitless. The Ash may deal DPS but the mobs will still chase you, and you still have to dodge. The Shivermist will immobilize the mobs so you can literally almost stand in one spot, or at least the dodging will be easier. Your teammates can focus down the unfrozen or deal charged damage to the frozen- a respite from mobs and free swings at their backs is worth more than the DPS from the Ash.
