Endless Zombie arena (posted 10 months ago!)

If you have played BO before you would get the general idea of wat im talking about.
Procedure:
Ok so u start with ful proto gear, and ur in a locker similar to the lockdown lockeroom except there is no healing pad or class change things. Instead the room is lined with holograms of various weapon/armour from the game and upgrades, each with a price of [watever currency is used]. The wave ypur on is showed on the top right corner of the screen. When you walk out there is a party button, when pressed, a small wave of normal zombies spawn and the locker room is blocked by gates. Each enemy you kill drops some of the currency [shadow essence] witch will go to all party members just like crowns. When all the zombies are dead a timer of 30 secs starts, in this time you can plan stategy, buy weapons/upgrades and equip your wepons/armour. when the timer goes to zero, you spawn where the party button is and the next wave starts.
Buying equipment/upgrades:
Its simple, just go to something u can buy and click attk, accept to buy it and it will apear in your modified arsenal (you will not have ur original stuff).
Any suggestions on the price of the different stars?
Upgrades will include vitapods, heath caps, vials, and getting UVs on ur stuff.
You can also level up your stuff by paying a fee for each lvl.
The waves will get progressively harder with more spawn, status, Kats, Trojans, slag guards, and greavers. (silkwings maybe for more frustration)
Players can rez by health splitting, or using energy (starts at 10) If the whole party is dead for 30 secs, its over.
Any suggestions? (i might have skipped some descriptions)
EDIT: Fixed problem with players fighting over essence by making so all players get it.

It sounds addictive. It sounds fun. It sounds like something I would spend hours playing.
It sounds like an admin should make a post in here.

WHY??? why does this actually sound like its fun XD. +1 for a great idea.

As for rewards, 1 token added to the pool for each completed wave.
Hell, if you want to make it even more interesting, add the old "Walk away or risk it all" rule. You can take your tokens and leave, or you can keep going and risk losing them all.
To encourage this, the amount of tokens you win after each wave can ramp up at certain intervals. Every 5 waves perhaps?

@Leinhart: That would probably lead to players simply leaving at a point before it gets to hard. Wagering would be an interesting approach though. Similar to Krogmo bribes (at a lower cost), you can wager energy to unlock a bonus prize for reaching the next check point. The value of the prizes ramps up along with the difficulty, but there is always a small chance of getting a special rare prize regardless of current progress. This way, players can drop energy to maximize the chances of the rare prize, or hold off until the later stages to have a more reliable chance at a decent prize.
At some point the difficulty would have to taper off, and the gear upgrades simply become an even swap to change loadout. The Max level would have to be pretty hard, and NOT offer the opportunity to heal up like you can in arenas. Otherwise a group could carry on for as long as they can stay awake, taking the endurance challenge out of it and making it a perfect prize grinding game mode. A hard limit on HP capsules in the shop (if implemented) would likely need to be added as well.

Revived because this is a really good idea that I would love to see happen.

Sounds like a good cooperative multiplayer option that could be made as an alternative to the PVPs that currently exist.

@ Leinhart, haha i was going to suggest exactly what you suggested in post #4 :)
Then i smiled when i read the thread and it was already suggested.
Sounds like a lot of fun. I've been calling for an endless dungeon since way back when!
One addition i'd like to suggest would be 'rare drops'. These drops you would start with when you played it again. For example say you get the rare drop "invasion brandish" (usable ONLY in zombie arena). It's a standard brandish, except now when you play zombie arena you start with your proto gear AND your Invasion Brandish!
...
Anyone remember lufia and the endless dungeon with the iris armors/weapons that worked exactly this way :D

I would play it, though as a note, games have been doing this long before black ops.

+1 i like it good teamwork would result in alot of fun, it could turn out to be realy fun as long as this mini game has its own seperate currency and we arent useing ours to purchase it because one, people would farm it for coin, 2 it prolly be expensive to get better armor to go to next level so all im saying is seperate money thing maby like bones or something?
and if you get tokens for every round (dont make it easy) then you get token for every round complete and trade the tokens for some new type of armor and wepons?? maby ZOMBIE themed ^.~??
and maby like 500cr to play but only 500cr.. not 500cr per wave...

Now, once you reach round 99, once you beat it, Grim Totems will spawn, covering the whole place, in impossible to move places. What does that create? Zombies constantly rezing that is...All the enemies this arena has will now have respawn plates (besides zombies). Also you get 5 crowns each second you survive. The lockerroom is now freely open, but the time in there will not count for crowns( also 5 secs after you leave it, to prevent exploiting).
Each normal round, you earn a set amount of cr like this:
1: 50
2: 100
3: 150
4: 200
5: 250
Get the pattern? Its an increase of 50 cr each round.
Entrance fee could be 1000 cr, so if you beat 6 rounds, you paid for the fee already!
There could also be energy turrets that last for 2 rounds.
Currency would be called "shadow essence"
Mechas that last until they die.
Rounds 1-20 would be T1 enemies
21-50: T2
51-80: T3
81-99: T3 and shadow lair monsters (yay! curse zombies!)
There could also be gates that open with shadow essence, to unlock new rooms (warning: causes more spawn, but its more spread out than of you stayed in the first one.)

Sounds like a good idea!
Also @Leinhart: ZOMBIE TOKENS! You could use the tokens to buy special undead armor, weapons, trinkets, and materials.

One thing to consider is that pvp in spiral knights IS a crowns sink. The winners make far less money than the losers lost, meaning every pvp match that occures takes crowns out of the system. This is a good thing as it helps control inflation. An individual can only profit in pvp if they are very good (having 5 or more wins for every loss in team matches) . PvP should be played for fun, and for the tokens/prizes, not for crowns profit.
This is pretty easy for the pvp matches, just make the winners payout less than what the losers put in. With this though that cant be done, there are no garenteed winers and losers, just the players and the feild, its esentialy non-clockworks pve. As such if you have a team that can make it to the profit point once, they can normaly do it any number of times, continualy putting crowns into the sytem.
With that in mind, I sugest puting the entrance fee to 200, in line with the pvps, put the break even point (the point were they would have made made their crowns back) fairly far in. Or even have no crowns pay out at all past the break even point, the rewards being purely tokens and entertainment.
And a leaderboard, have the teams that reached the highest round/survived the longest in overtime be displayed. Each week everyone on the top team gets a "you are awesome" costume set (which expires 2 weeks after you get it) and a decent token prize, and then the leader board is reset.

Ok, how about each round completed you earn one zombie token, but no crowns. EXCEPT every 10 rounds you earn 250 cr. I still think the entrance should be racked up to 1000 cr, so you will have to beat 40 rounds to pay for the fee, and players will make a minimum of 1500 cr if they get to overtime. That is sure not to flood the economy too much because the time it takes to get to overtime will probably be a long time and players could earn money faster by doing clockworks. Sound good?
Also I wanted to make sure that you would need the equipment before the next upgrade of your eqiupment to get that. So people coudnt get a DA before getting the Avenger or Sealed Sword, it adds a sense of moving up in this mode.
The prizes should be set up like PvP so you use the token to buy the RECIPIES. Also like the PvP stuff, they could be branches off of the skelly line, CIV, or maybe even create some new shadow stuff.

Definitely something I'd try just to pass some time when I run out of mist.
Also, just a suggestion, perhaps in order to make it somewhat a crown sink, perhaps make the payouts based on the wagers of the Knights? Also, here's what I suggest:
Let's say Knights A, B, C wager 200, 400 and 1k cr respectively.
If the Knights make it to:
Round 10: A gets 50, B gets 100, C gets 250
Round 20: A gets 100, B gets 200, C gets 500
Round 40: A gets 200, B gets 400, C gets 1k
Round 50: A gets 200 + 50, B gets 400 + 50, C gets 1k + 50 (no more than 25% of crowns wagered)
Round 60: A gets 200 + 100, B gets 400 + 100, C gets 1k + 100 (no more than 50% of crowns wagered)
Round 70: A gets 200 + 150, B gets 400 + 200, C gets 1k + 200 (no more than 75% of crowns wagered)
etc.
This is to prevent people wagering excessively high/low amounts from taking advantage of the system to overcome the crown sink, while still giving out rewards. Also it allows new players to join in the fun and get a feel of later tier weapons. I'm also willing to go with the idea at Round 99 given that not many players reach that in the first place.

Ehh, not something I'd really suppourt, but I'd stick it in the game for a while as a test, to see how it worked out. Sounds fun yet it dosen't really make sense to be here. Kinda like bomberman IMO. Wouldn't make sense to be krogmo though, monsters are spectators.

@Kentard: I love the wager idea, I just wasnt sure what wagers were until read that...
I still think that there has to be a minimum wager amount so people dont farm the first couple rounds for tokens, effectively doing it for free. How about...200? same amount as PvP and the fee is not paid until round 40 still...great!
@Kimahso: If it is not original due to the fact I ripped off Black Ops then yes, it is not very original, and I have acknowledged that in the title before I changed it. If it is due to the other thread called "Clockworks Survival" then no, that thread id fairly new and was made way after mine, the maker even said they read this and just incorporated their own ideas in it to change it a little.
@Orangeo: why? seems like it fits assuming that that one of the name of he monsters is zombie....And its not Krogmo, it something of its self, and will have new tokens, this could fill up the empty space in the arcade....WAIT that just gave me an idea...A whole game mode dedicated to different themed endless monster arenas...
In corporating the idea of the other arena thread, there could be a swarm arena, construct/gremlin, jelly/beast....oh man ive got some brain stormin to do....
@The guy who suggested leader boards: yes good idea, the costume prize could be zombie hunter set, or something else...idk

Would overcome to problem of not having a crown sink, so I guess... why not? :)
With reference to Kimahso's comment, though, I'd say the originality may be something to worry about eventually.
I'm pretty sure OOO wouldn't be too keen on copyright infringement, but I suppose further ideas can be implemented later, once the basic gameplay mechanics are sorted out.

I would actually like to open it up from just zombies. I love the principle, and I feel like having it being team-oriented would keep it fun for groups as well. But there's a lot of features already present in the game design that would take moments to implement in another way.
Your suggestion: Buying weapons off the wall, Call of Duty style.
Counter-suggestion: Every 5-10 rounds, get the opportunity to swap gear in a 30 second time frame instead. How to decide what you bring? Have the "theme" for the monsters decided via Prize Wheel fashion, with a Wild Card option being on there to act as a bonus. It's harder since it's unpredictable, but it also offers double the reward, whatever that may be. How to select your weapons/loadouts? Use the arsenal boxes present in the terminals as a design of sorts and base it off of that. It would essentially force you to coordinate with your teammates so everyone has something reliable to contribute to the team.
Reasons this would be viable: It would always keep the game fresh in this manner since you always have a different kind of monster theme every set amount of waves. You'd also have a reason for communication above just saying where enemies are coming from.
Disable energy rezzing for something like this as well. Yes, it's a Coliseum event, but it's still PvE in the grand scheme of things, which would conflict with gates directly if it completely replicated the rezzing experience using energy, since at that point, it's depth running without elevators and no mats/crowns.
All in all, disabling the energy rezzing would keep the game fresh for people since eventually you just want the game to end and someone could easily extend the game by rezzing other people with energy of their own. At that point, your only option is to quit out, which is a loss of crowns because of someone's idea of being 'funny'. Either that, or after Wave 20, enable energy rezzes at that point since it'd be clear that everyone who's there is in it for the long haul.

Most of the new fourmers have probably not read this, so I thought I could get new feedback and (slim) chance of implementation.
- First of all after rereading this, I'm a bit embarrassed with my bad grammar, don't worry I'm a lot better. (I get kinda derpy with commas still though)
+1 Prize wheel monster and status selection for double tokens, crowns, or "shadow essence" (essence probably increased to a smaller degree)
+ 1 Disabling energy rezzing until Round 20
- I wish I could ask Retequizzle about his counter suggestion as to if you could just swap weapons free of charge of any currency. I want to keep the "off the wall" style as I like it better. (possibly two game modes?)
- Shadow Essence looks like purple heat. (will have different sizes too)
- Scratch the idea of opening new rooms, too much like BO.
This could be also be the way to get more shadow damage weapons (we need more), from the token rewards.
Support? Criticism? Ideas? Balancing?
Edit: Ok, just decided to read the "Haven Havoc" thread right after I posted this, when I read it I did a face-keyboard...
- First of all, this is not a mission.
- Replayable at any time.
- You start with proto gear and work your way up as opposed to having your own gear.
- It gave me the idea of an occasional boss (shadow lair bosses in 81-99) BOSSES ARE NOT EVERY ROUND
- When I rezzed this I had no intention of competing with "Haven Havoc" I was only looking for the words "endless" "arena" when scanning recent posts
- The only signifigant reward is the tokens.

Only items which have the recipe bound to your knight may be obtained through unlocking. No UVs or trinkets from buying upgrades/equipment.
Zombies vary amongst all the status variants, including curse (Carnavon) at a late point.
All zombies drop "zombie money", though status variated ones also drop special status relevant tokens; for example, a Slag would drop the normal "zombie money" as a normal zombie would, then would also drop a fire "zombie money" to obtain fire relevant equipment for the minigame.
I want to write the rest of my thoughts on this but it would become enormous. Instead I will dump it in my own thread and link the current thread as a reference.
The upgrade credits could easily be replicated through the party with no ill side effects. In fact, its preferable, so people don't fight over credits in the middle of a wave.
