I think I was wrong. I thought 000 had this planned out that it would be economically viable for the playerbase to run the new content. It would be a mutually beneficial arrangement - we spend money, and we in return reap huge rewards.
Unfortunately, from what I hear the rewards are meager even if it was a one silver key to one shadow key ratio... and yet the ratio is far, far lesser. I thought this would be a long continuous relationship with you 000... but this is pretty much a slap in the face. 45$ and I don't even get to SEE the content.

i feel for you, yes i realy do... i also sunk in money into the game but for whole difrent reasons (before there even was word of keys) but the way OOO set this up feels like gambling, gambling with no profit mind you. the ONLY way to get "premium" content is to unbox it nothing more nothing less...
i would NEVER pay OOO a cent for a key that gives me absolute CRAP (go to the AH they literaly beat you to death with nurse headbands...) when you copy an idea do it right.

I don't think it is made clear enough to some people that it is gambling - you might as well put the money betting on something else.
I can see they wanted to make it exclusive... and rare... but pricing it out to people who are rich and lucky is harsh imvho... why not encourage outstanding achievements? or people who give back to the community? (anything along these lines would be good, no?)
encouraging gambling is bad too. Had a tough time myself ploughing saved CR into rolling for UV. I guess its easy to not claim responsibility when you are just putting the tools out there for others to do as they wish.
In some ways (altho rather dramatic some might say), its like putting an addicts wish list infront of them and then leaving them to their own devices. Of course it is down to the addicts self control (like you OP), but at some point the person who is making it available should question their motives?! You know, for moralities sake?
I don't know if I agree with myself or not, just putting it out there.
EDIT: I am not trying to imply you are addicted to gaming OP, you would just like to enjoy the additional content that is added. And you funded OOO in good faith that you would get this, however, as they stated, its just a chance of getting it. And that is wack (as was speculated)... and is currently being proven to hurt people willing to pay them money! Way to go pissing off paying customers with a broken mechanism that your community asked you to change!

So... assumng that 7500 CE is required to get into the lair, plus the recipe cost, plus the crafting fee.

Anyways, one of my guildies got a key and I ran the content today... it is very enjoyable. I just don't think that players should have to undergo such BS to get there. I don't expect any sort of retroactive change to occur and magically see some amount of shadow keys in my bags... I just don't understand why 000 doesn't want players running the content that they've designed that is FUN.
It... doesn't make sense to me really. The content sets up the scene for the core and I probably would have dropped another reasonable sum of cash for the actual core content... but now I won't, because it will likely be behind gambling gimmick that I just can't handle the real life frustrations of.

it's not 7500CE for 1 key.. the other 18 boxes you open contained items, and even if they were the poorest quality accessories.. and you sold them for 10kcr each.. that's still 180000cr which is about 3kCE
so down to 4kCE per key
these numbers were used for illustration purposes, please do not argue about the accuracy of these numbers..

Lets get a movement going here, we did it with the occupy-haven protest, if people stop buying silver keys in bulk it will really send a message to the devs.

you re so right on dont give in to the "i want it now" after 7 lock boxes i opened to see if would get a freaking key i just decided not to give more to the sink of CE and just crafting new stuff in hope to get better UVs for my equipment or to sell it.
but the hard part its send this strong petition to all havens including the french, german, and spanish havens.
make them to join forces with us as well with the steam community forum of spiral knigth and well Every lock boxes on the AH being removed and if it possible sell them to the usable items vendor instead AH (or keep them) to remove any trace of lockboxes (or a good part of them) to keep away "gamblers" to get them and open them.
Anyways thats the only way to keep us as strike for what 000 done to us as well have a small very very small poblation of gamblers opening boxes (because we know there will be new players selling those boxes and they dont are aware about whats happening with the game).
and well that and have a little hope that effort would work (because greedy mind its hard to change or make it understand) also i dont have idea what to do with the "free give away" because its free and well another factor that could weak any effort to change this situation.

I won't advocate people boycott SK altogether and stop buying CE or stop playing, that would REALLY kill the game if people did that in mass, just IGNORE the new content for now, hopefully when OOO sees that their hard work at creating and programming all that new stuff does not result in an increase in profit they will hopefully realize something needs to be changed.

well a good start point its ask to all haven to join forces and stay united. not like stop playing or stop buying CE but instead: not selling any lockboxes on AH that every player remove or keep their lockboxes (or the ones that are aware about this situation like us who pay for this game) cutting the main source that OOO give to get the shadow key would give at least a small impact on what we are doing. tell other players that not sell iron lock boxes (new players can be tricked to the point that if they got 50 of them they would get something awesome) or tell them that not being fool and those things sells for very high price so they wouldnt sell it on AH.
i think thats a good point to start and that would make the gamblers away to open lockboxes because stopping the CE waste from lockboxes its the main thing.

Hopefully they should need around 1,000 person like you (around US$50K) to cover the expenses of the devs/team who worked on it, they will never make that much and the marketing guy will be replaced :)
Note: Devs should not be blamed, like I used to read in several posts, in most companies (and of course OOO) they code what the marketing guys decide.

Lets assume you are right and that is true for such a "small" company: They still should be in the position, geographically speaking, to put some pressure on the marketing guys gonads in plainly mechanical kind of way. And that wouldn't be the worst decision that could be made.
But hey... 45$... sounds about right for an hour of fun gameplay. Oh wait, he didn't get it?
It turns out this new content is for VIPs who can spend hundreds of dollars or someone with incredible luck.
