I think this is a question thats asked alot, correct me if I'm wrong.

But what is stronger? A dread venom striker or a wild hunting blade?

I plan on making one of these and I want to know your opinions/preferance on if dealing a status effect is more useful than raw damage?

Pros and cons:

Note:
Both blades deal same amount of damage.

WHB
Pro: WHB has the equivalent of 30% damage "UV" against beasts (checking wiki damage totals)
Cons:
1. If you plan to have "Very High" sword damage bonus total or better, WHB's bonus is less useful or wasted.
2. Alternatives like BTB/FF are available to counter beasts too.

DVS
Pro: Poison makes the afflicted enemy take 10% more damage, and deal 50% less damage.
Cons:
1. DVS chance of poison is low, almost useless against randoms/minions as they'll die anyway
2. DVS is mostly for JK

My thoughts:
I don't like the cutter line myself, but I think the DVS is better if only because there's a specific target that it owns, and no other blades can inflict poison.

Thanks

Thanks for your opinion but I plan on making on (or at least a vile striker) for mostly JK runs and Lockdown purposes.

DVS in Lockdown

I've tried a DVS in Lockdown and it does almost no damage. The per-hit values are a fraction of what someone does with any other sword and the short range makes it difficult to actually hit someone unless they are lagging badly. Plus everyone has Normal defense, so what little damage it does is mostly blocked.

It is fun though to poison fellow knights :D
