The Horse We Rode In On - What Does The Skylark Look Like?

(\'a') Hello! Let's draaaaaaw!
The main driving point of the game's plot is to find a replacement power source for the Spiral Order's crashed Skylark starship!
But where is its wreck, and what does it even look like? What are we risking our lives for as we dangerously delve Corewards every day?
"WHAT ARE WE FIGHTING FOOOOOOOR?"
Let's all try to sketch it! Post your sketches or some ideas you have about what it should look like in this thread! You don't have to put much polish on your ideas, just try to convey a shape for this mysterious unseen spacecraft...
I think the Skylark should at least be:
1. Massive - because it carried thousands of knights to Cradle
2. Armored - its hull should be equipped with armor plates in keeping with our knightly philosophies
3. Fantastic - if it looks too hard-science-fiction-y, it won't really fit in with the art style of the game
There was one bit of dialogue that said, without the primary tearium core, the "bird has effectively lost its wings." A starship has no need for wings, but in keeping with #3, I interpreted this literally and decided to incorporate large wings.
Here is a very rough sketch and colorblock I threw together in 10 minutes with complete disregard for presentation, but I was trying to incorporate as much of the Spiral Order's "look", based on the random equipment and crew color schemes strewn about Haven, as well as some of the quartermaster equipment:

I will probably refine the look and make a full 3D mesh with suggestions.
What do you guys think the Skylark looks like?

@Echo Thanks! Yours is just as lovely, because it has good ideas, and that is the theme of this thread. It also looks like a shield, so that's pretty cool. It fits in with the simple shapes we see in the equipment. I also like how you put the scale of an escape pod to it. That is very smart.
That is a nice touch incorporating the spiral motif on the side, good attention to detail. Your ship design looks best at comfortably carrying the thousands of knights we see in the game! I can imagine a big comfortable mall for thousands of knights that can be seen through the big windows. :D

Thanks :) but it has a lot space for improvement maybe I'll edit it some other time. I could also draw a pic of the top grey dome thing open, and clusters of pods spewing out.

Pretty neat you two. I'm not skilled enough to add to this nor am I very creative.

I think I'll have to contribute to this thread, as I always though the Skylark to look like Meta Knight's Halberd.
When I get done sketching it, that is.

I spent very little time on this. But I imagined the skylark being more cruise ship like. with a large capacity for knights :D

Woohoo! I love it! That looks huge! Great polish on the pic. I love the engines too, they remind me of the combuster description in that they re-used the same technology for those swords. My favorite detail is the little birdy logo, hehe. Also, Double Rainbow Thrusters, aall the way across the spaaace! What does it meeeaan? ( ;w;) Nice work!
Littlerbit, a sketch would be great but a description is fine too, even if you talk about little details on what you imagine the ship to have. I also thought it would look Halberd-y. :D
Great contributions so far, everybody!

This pic is so good, it should be used on the SK wiki and the official web page. No joke.

Ya the bird is from the Antigua set series. and I also put an Azure helm look into the ship with Mech Wing looking engines. Who says a ship can't be accessorized?

Halberd idea is great. I'd like to see that thought expanded

for some reason, whenever I think of the Skylark, my minds comes up with a mix of a Star Wars Star Destroyer and the StarShip Enterprize.

First of all I would like to voice my approval of group projects like this, they are always fun and interesting :3
That's a really interesting interpretation of the Skylark you have worked up there, nothing I would have come
up with for sure. It's got a very streamlined look to it, but remains sufficiently huge to accommodate all our knights.
Very pleasing to the eye, I like it a lot!
And, finally, my own contribution. I'll just apologize in advance, I draw about as well as a stranger plays volleyball, but
I figure these are at least good enough to get the point across. I visualized the Skylark much like Dukthepiper, with a large
cruiser design.

And a colored version, for those who might be interested.

I took a picture of an actual lark and decided to work with that. this is what I have so far.

Some colors I threw on it, and also the background of cradle

Can we see your full drawing (not rough sketch) of your ship, Kamiyana? :D

@Dukthepiper, interesting but I like you cruise version better.

Not quite a drawing or a lark-looking ship but this is what the knights will leave in IMO:

Being a great kirby fan the Halberd was the first thing that popped to mind when I read about the skylark, dunno why. I might do a sketch as well.

Thought I'd toss a few ideas down on some paper that I had lying around: http://img830.imageshack.us/img830/2096/skylark.png
Yours is quite nice, Kamiyana.

I am really bad at drawing (I'm only 13) but anyways here is my idea of a skylark. Almost the same idea with Kamiyana's, but not that EPIC.

For those saying the Halberd (and for everyone else), I was thinking it would look more like the Egg Carrier from Sonic Adventure, albeit with a blue based recolouring.

We came to the cradle on a large astronaut snipe god.
So just picture a snipe....
With its wings powering us through space....
Reminded me of Saturn anyways....
One problem: I haven't figured out where the knights are to be carried....
:D

These ideas are GREAT. I love them all. and @ Zpte: Too true :D

Hehe, in a giant backpack that the snipe is wearing! Also, it must have not have been very happy as it had to lay thousands of escape-pod eggs...
Good work with the contributions, everyone. This is good teamwork brain-storming. It is surprising to note that a lot of people are also interested in our invisible spaceship, and have very strong imaginations. I like all the sketches so far, they each have some cool feature or design motif. It would be great if these ideas and designs are something we could contribute as fans to the development of the official Skylark.
Just keep the Swarm away from the wreckage... I'm sure fighting a gigantic, swarm-corrupted mechanical bird spaceship final boss mega-being, with no other way off Cradle, would be truly Spiral Knights Bad Ending. ( `n`)
Keep up the great work!!

This is my concept of the Skylark:

I don't have any real input of my own to add (at least not yet), but I really like Dukthepiper's take on it. Actually I like most of the suggestions so far, but Duk's stands out to me. :o
Alsosmallofftopic.

I really like the ideas. I currently do not have a sketch to post, but I would like to express my opinion. I honestly don't believe it would have the energy decals that are on all of our armor. The wildly loose amounts of energy radiating from the planet, as well as the high gravity, is what caused the ship to crash in the first place. I believe the original version would not have any, but the upgraded version we would ride back on would, to accommodate the new power source (Cradle's Core). Of course, I could be completely wrong and our ship may be a giant magnet with a kite stuck to it, said magnet could hold a whole fleet of escape pods. The loose energy from the planet could over charge the magnet, frying the kite and sending us hurdling towards our mechanical doom! :P

To the various people who posted work here:
would you be okay with me adding your work to the wiki gallery I'm making? Please post in given thread here:

these are nice pictures of the skylark :D i pictured the skylark as a big cruiser.

Hey guys, let's keep from necro'ing old threads and check timestamps, ya? ;D Helps to make forums purrty-like.

I have started to draw it, but i had this one idea.
Millions of escape pods are orbiting cradle and every day friends of other knights and knights that are completely forgotten of plummet to the surface of the alien world.
PS since they all land in the same place they push each-other further down by one pod. on the other side of the planet there it a tower of pods that goes back into space. they also go through the core.
also, how do i change my picture to my knight?

I'm not sure if you read what Jester said, but I think it's pretty ironic.
Also, if you want to change your picture to a knight, I think after your ignorance you should have to search the forums for what you need. There are several threads throughout the SK Forums that ask this very question.
Holy amazing! Wow that's epic maybe I'll try to draw my interpretation later.
EDIT: Here's mine. It's not as good as yours though. http://img818.imageshack.us/img818/6997/spaceship.png
