Which sword would you describe as the best in the game? I understand their not really comparible becuase of different mechanics, strengths and weaknesses etc, but personally for you, which one do you love most?
Best sword in the Game
It's not my favorite sword, but I think that the best sword is Final Flourish / Barbarous Thorn Blade (which are equally good). These things slaughter fiends and beasts, obviously. But they're also quite good against gremlins and undead. Of course, they stink against constructs and slimes, but that's why you carry more than one weapon.
my grintovec.(soon a triglav)
oh, btw, dont forget that half of a swords efectiveness isnt on it. its on the swordsman/woman.
+1 Bopp's comment.
FF/BTB --> Speed, range and knockback to save you by a hair's breadth on the 1st swing. How can it not be the best?
However, my underused leviathan is still my favourite.
"It's all Wrench Wand! :D
-You can heal your friends.
-You can revive your friends.
-You can illegally smack people with it to deal a bunch of damage!
-Can can shoot with it!
-It's supah shiny!
-Can I haz a Cheezburger?"
-The Gremlin Mender
PS: You never asked what usable sword :P
Other wise, it's the Leviathan(Fast and Charge), Divine Avenger (for Charge), Polaris (for huge knockback and bullets), or Gran Faust (it goes against the rules, cursing excessively and all...).
Again, +1 on Bopp's comment. I definitely agree.
But then this is where I be a fence-sitter and also agree with Sypsy's comment about the underused Leviathan still being the favorite.
Though I rarely use it, it was my first 5* and still has that elegance and swiftness that yearns to be used every time I ponder on which weapons to bring with me before going into a run.
I don't think there's any best sword, they're all just good at different things, and for different playing styles.
Nearo, Liu-Tenant said as much in the original post. The point is not to seriously create a general-purpose weapon setup with only a single sword in it. It's to take a freaky stand, declaring that sword A does A's particular thing better than sword B does B's particular thing. In other words, which sword is the most overpowered?
Fang of Vog, hands-down.
A. Because it's one of the only elemental swords, aside from the -edge series, that does what elemental swords should do: inflict it's status effect with a normal swing.
-and-
B. It's on fire! What kind of madman would carry a sword that is on fire?? Short of lugging around a bucket of water to douse it with, the only way to extinguish it would be to stick it in your enemies. You have to be pretty commited (or just be plain commited) to carry a flaming sword.
~aremel
I never go anywhere without faust unless it's a boss stratum. It's the only shadow weapon I really use.
my jalovec or khorovod. The charge is just so fun.
either those or my shockburst. the charge is so useful in Robo Rampage Arenas and PVP.
It hits nearly as hard as Leviathan and harder than Fang of Vog. The charge attack (which is how it should be used) causes fire damage, and here is the important part, which continues to inflict damage on monsters without your need to even continue to fight them. The monsters are dying while you're off fighting the next enemy. Furthermore, fire can spread from one monster to another. So if I hit a slime in the Jelly King levels, it will bounce back into another slime and lumber and set them both on fire. Now three monsters are taking damage while I'm free to fight other monsters. Plus, the Combuster can shoot out its fire, so it has a distance attack capability.
Acheron gets my vote for best sword overall...
Basic info:
- Fast, three swing combo.
- Deals half shadow, half normal damage.
- Great against goblins and jellies.
- Good against beasts and constructs.
- OK against undead and fiends. Because half of what it deals is normal damage it really isn't that bad even versus these.
The arena advantage:
- Undead and fiends are the least likely enemies to show up in arenas. This mitigates Acheron's weaknesses and accentuates its strengths on the most challenging level type.
- Great for quickly killing the goblin menders in stage three of the arenas. Mender elimination is a key to arena success.
Ultimate instrument of JK death:
- Jelly palace is arguably the best place to earn CR for new items... and Acheron does very well there.
- There's no better item for killing JK now that he's weak to shadow damage. Acheron damages JK so fast, he almost falls too easily.
Acheron is epic! And its tying with my DA for best sword
Acheron FTW! The most epic looking sword eva.
Levi is my most versatile.
But if you consider the effectiveness of a sword without the specialized damage type, like pure normal, which one do you guys think would be the best?
I think it's BTB/Flourish tied with DA/GF. (I put GF not because it only has one projectile charge atk, but it can curse)
listen all 5 star swords are the same there are just diff kinds of them like the status conditions dont do as much damage as levi so they added status condition to make up for that like
levi-at level 1 is average 95
glacius- level 1 is 75 plus 10 status condition
see what i mean
lol so you think a levi and a sudaruska are equal
I have the most fun with the Cutter line. I don't care what's the best, I feel like a ninja when I'm flying around the battlefield, leaving a trail of ghostly blades that slice up my enemy.
Also, charging up, running behind a Gun Puppy while he is distracted, and unloading a full charged up combo on him is one of my favorite moments of the game
Levi was my first love -- good for just about every situation and has a nice charge attack (and attack radius in general). But now I lean hard on DA / GF / BTB since i acquired those (depending on the strata).... especially now that we can change weapons floor to floor.
Snarby - BTB + FoV
JK - GF + FoV
IMF - DA + GF
FSC - DA (+ Blitz Needle)
Best sword is Combuster. Here is why:
Vs wolvers: Set on fire- decent damage despite elemental (unless you are fighting ash tails)
Vs Gremlins: Fire Makes Up for DMG deduction)
Vs slimes: Fire adds large DMG to swings: vs oilers, you can control the fire
Vs devilites: Fire is excellent + normal DMG
Vs constructs: Fire makes Roarmulus twins extremely easy;
Vs undead Kats and zombies die easily, slags take the pure elemental damage.
Vs Trojans: fire helps take them down.
Fire is the most damaging status (debatable), split DMG is the most useful all-around, and it looks cool.
Most of the peapol say that the Barbarous Thorn blade is the best but its not
I paid a lot of money for that sword and i hate it, on almost all monsters it has 20 dmg so if i can give you one tip
dont buy it
Agree with Slayzz, combuster is all-purpose. Its fire damage and half-normal damage makes it powerful to all monsters.
"Best" means no weakness, in my eyes, so I'd have to go with Suda; never weak, long range, huge KB, stun/slows enemies, the charge attack is ridiculously strong and very easy to get asi.
The best sword is an opinion. No better way to get every knight in haven fighting.
Anyways,
Best swords for the heavy hitters based on damage type.
Normal: Levi/scissor blade
Elemental: WRH, pure elemental that deals more damage than DA's split normal/elemental.
Shadow: GF, deals a lot of damage and can inflict curse. Also is split normal/shadow so it is still slightly effective against devilites and undead.
Peircing: FF/BTB
Most of the peapol say that the Barbarous Thorn blade is the best but its not

Read the wiki page "Damage", and stop using piercing weapons on constructs and slimes.
My Wild Hunting Blade. :') Unfortunately, the only time it is actually useful is with Vanaduke's mask (and even that is probably better done with Blitz charge). I still love unleashing the golden phantasmal wolvers on poor enemies though.
P.S. I would seriously appreciate a buff to the whole striker line, it's ironic that you can't effectively use a striker weapon as a striker class in Lockdown, because of invincibility frames and whatnot.
and even that is probably better done with Blitz charge
Pepperbox>Blitz. The mask is resistant to all types except normal.
Never tried WHB myself, but if nothing else it's just blindingly cool to see in action.
well my favorite is the WMH, sure the charge is reckless in FSC,
but i love smashing zombies and constructs into little bits.
+ (in my opinion) its great in LD.
In terms of PvP, flourishes are the best. They've got the greatest range, speed and attack force.
The best in terms of attack pattern for PvE is easily the warmaster rocket hammer. It certainly leaves holes for the brandishes and even DA to come in and shine, but for pure damage? WRH; its what I take on all of the most dangerous missions (provided they aren't beast/gremlin/oiler flavored)- so I can instantly KO the turrets... then when my team mates or I drop shiver, I can come back in and KO everything in 3 seconds again. It's pure elemental, but if it were a set of 3, then the shadow and elemental versions would easily get a good bit of use... not sure how I feel about a piercing WRH. And a normal WRH would be OP.
@Aroxian The banstick is a tool, not a weapon.
WRH achieves high damage if the second stroke hits more than once. For this to happen, the enemy has to be resistant to knockback (turrets, lumbers, giant lichens, pinned against wall, etc.) If the second stroke doesn't land multiple times, then the DPS is not much better than DA, and much lower than the elemental Brandishes. So WRH is somewhat situational. Fun though.
Why you may ask? Well, all hits, even it's charge attack has a chance to inflict fire which does a good amount to damage. Even through it's a little slower then medium-speed sword lines.
It's charge attack however, it's one of the most powerful in the game, it can kill enemys easily if you get them in a corner as they take all the hits from the attack at once, if that does not kill them, then the fire will likely so. (unless you are fighting fire resist enemys or if theres a Mender/Silkwing healing them.)
The downside of it is the charge attack, which has a chance to inflict fire on you as well but this can be countered with fire resist trinkets or armor.
I call the Fang of Vog "The Naught Smasher" as the name suggests, can nearly kill Deadnaughts or instant kill, even Cursed Deadnaughts like the ones in LoA.
@Bopp
Step 1: Attack facing away from said enemy;
Step 2: Dash into enemy
Or
Step 1: Shield bash/hit enemy into wall
Step 2: Dash for damage
As long as you aren't wasting the 2nd hit, you'll be pimped out on damage. It takes a bit to get used to, and it certainly isn't as easy to use as the brandishes, nor does it offer as good of crowd control, but it is pretty baller at single target DPS... which, as long as you can dodge slags and construct and the entire crowd, is all that matters; killing dozens of enemies with the same AI is usually a fairly easy task compared to killing dozens of enemies at the same time as dealing with one or two huge enemies.
Which wave is the hardest in the last arena on LoA? The last one, which forces you to take out 2 larger enemies prior to taking out the crowd. Which weapon helps you the most there? WRH.
@Chain
The damage dealt by fire is far inferior to the damage dealt by the charge on WRH, which rivals even the charge of FoV. Consider that the 2nd hit of WRH requires no time to charge, comes at no direct risk, and is only benefitted by 2 variables.
I am of course speaking of ASI and damage, compared to the fire resistance, charge time reduction and damage that FoV requires to become its best.
On top of that, fire is only good if you allow it to do its work; as opposed to WRH, which simply kills them.
*tapes 3 Final Flourishes between A DA and a GF* This one!
Actually WRH is my fav and what i would call the best one
Thanks, Fehzor. I mentioned your second tactic (pinning against wall), but I haven't practiced your first tactic. I'll give it a go.
Against the big slag guards in LoA I usually use Blitz Needle, but I'll give WRH a try too.
In general, I certainly agree that WRH has some of the most subtle and interesting attack patterns. The weapon takes a long time to master.
i think that the best sword can be any sword, depending on the user and situation.
for instance: WRH will make a better ICM run than an archeron does a RJ run.
and likewise, if you are terrible at the WRH, then a DA is a much safer and easier bet.
but if you can master the WRH then it pays of better in the long run.
voltedge.
-great for large groups
-charges quicksilvers=free damage -not often-
-instant construct demolition
-sends crying phantoms to sleep
-sometimes saves my life -by shock-
followed by a final flourish. -die fiends/gremlins-
and ff is followed by a wild hunting blade.
whb is better for some reason. did you know each wolver bite of the charge interupts an attack?
At first I only used Calibur. This was long before the Brandish update while everyone was derping around with DAvengers. I started going for Vanquisher line because I liked having less knockback, but eventually I got a Sealed. I knew everyone else always grabbed Avenger but I went for Faust because of its cursing ability. I never used the charge on Faust and even when I used Calibur I barely ever used the charge; it was all about basic swing combos to maintain control of the battle without derping around everywhere. I only had Plate line because I never thought I would need the offense bonuses of Wolver and the loss of attack speed was never too important to me. I used Plate because I wanted defense over attack, seeing as it was more important to me to survive than kill faster and die immediately after. Before getting VPlate and Vanquisher, though I had GFaust, I got MadB and started using bombs. At that point I stopped using my Carver (it became Vanquisher a couple months later) and began using Barrage, Graviton, and Faust lines with only one weapon upgrade at a time with MadB as my armor. From then on I started collecting bombs, eventually getting VDemo, then I came back to finish my Plate and Vanquisher. After that I went to derp up some other stuff.
For the time, I invested in basically the worst choices for how I was playing. I was one of the worst noobs. However, when it came to actually playing it became about enjoying the game rather than winning everything. Gameplay never felt like a grind because I was focused on playing the game for the sake of playing the game over amassing a fortune.
In case anyone cares how I went from some new idiot to whatever I am now. An old idiot.
IMO, WRH.
I pretty much main my WRH. Good Damage, Good Knockback, Really, Really nice for singleing out an enemy and dealing tons of damage to them. :
Unless I'm going up against Wolvers/Gremlins, I'm probably carrying it unless I'm going with a Gun/Bomb Set.
Usually I take my WRH and Dark Retribution as my anti-slime/construct set. :p
I have DA ASI med and the split normal/elemental makes it pretty spectacular. It's not bad against gremlins/beast because it has half normal dmg and for other weapons it's either normal or OP, also, the charge attack is beast. It's also a very usefull sword for PvP
There are lots of swords to use in different situations, but my favorite is Leviathan Blade because you can use it in any situation. I love it's knockback because when a mosnter hits a wall or other monster the dmg doubles. It's very good against stable monsters like Gunpuppies and Howlers. But if you want special dmg, here's my list of best swords:
Piercing= FF/BTB
Elemental= WRH
Shadow= GF
Combuster for me.
Normal + Elemental means it deals a little less damage to Gremlins and Beasts than it usually would, but its part Normal typing salvages some of damage it loses. Plus the charge attack kicks arse, sets [scrap] on fire if it isn't a Fire themed monster, which can often finish it off.
I'd probably say the same for the Voltedge, if I owned one.
Look at the OP date.
Then look at your post date.
Then look at the OP date again.
Then headdesk at the necro.
More on topic; the only sword that can possibly be the best sword is the crowbar.
You simply cannot outsword the crowbar in a sword-off, it is the best weapon there is.
Alternatively, the Blitz Needle is the best. Obviously this counts as a sword since it creates a lot of damage in one small area, in melee range, to a single target.
(on a more srs note i still love my divine avenger)
Gran faust are the best because you curse AND take huge damage
Warmaster Rocket Hammer because it is super strong and has strong attacks
Final flourish because they take good speed
Voltedge because it causes strong shock and strong damage
That's my opinions
glacius freezes and u can charge and freeze it again and its not that bad for pvp either......................
in reality, my combuster is my duct tape. if for some reason i don't have my final flourish available, then i use it for literally anything except oilers. but i mean if you told me i could only use 1 weapon, odds are that the combuster would be suitable for the situation.
Leviathan is the most versatile imo. As far as best goes I would say a toss up between GF, DA, and BTB depending on what you are fighting.
