A twist on the SK plotline: the lost Alpha Squad as a boss.
Since we only know of the Alpha Squad via recon modules, we can assume they are still down in the clockworks. Also, as people have suggested in the Treasure-Vault/ General forums, Alpha squad has possibly been corrupted (similar concept to Trojans) or captured by King Tinkinzar. SO... What if knights encountered them in the clockworks? Instead of having 1 big boss, you have the 4 mini bosses (sort of), each with their own unique abilities, etc.

Euclid, leader:
- Uses average speed sword/ swords, bombs, and guns?... fighting style up for discussion?
Parma, scout:
- Uses bombs/ guns; can teleport around the room similar to snarby/ wolvers, basically kiting the players. Can only be attacked when stunned/ hit w/ a status effect from vials or map features (beast bell, or by activating elemental grates)
Rulen, technician:
-Uses bombs; doesn't directly attack player, sets up mecha-knights or other kinds of contruct related monsters to harass the player, will send out waves of monsters, and players must defeat/ avoid mobs in order to reach the boss himself, possibly with various switches,etc around the room which make it more difficult to reach him
Grantz, guardian:
-Uses a slow sword (like DA, etc); slightly immune to all, has a one-sided shield (like trojans), makes him invulnerable. Moves slowly but has extremely powerful attack which can cause stun (like lumbers). Immune to status effects (otherwise would be too similar to trojans) Requires teamwork to fight?
Alternative idea: Is completely invincible when using shield, players must break down shield by using the exploding blocks scattered throughout the room, only then can they directly attack.

(Note: Not necessarily in this order)
Also, maybe not fight all of them, but randomly chosen to fight 1 of the 4... Possible rewards are weapons unique to each boss

Just my idea, plz contribute your own!!

Good concept

I actually like it, it would be a pretty cool boss fight this way. Also, where would the fight be? Maybe this boss could be the first from the Core, if it were to also have 3 "tiers".... being first 1 this (the Core clockworks?) the 2nd one King Trikinzar (Crimson Court after it?) and the 3rd one the "entity" (inside the power source to purify it? )?

I think that this boss could get you fighting more members depending on how big is your party, and if you are 4 people you would fight the entire Alpha Squad at once. Though if each member was a super-duper-powered version of us, maybe scrap this and they should come out 1 by 1 with Euclid as the last one.

Nice Idea

Especially on how each menber of the team acts differently from each other in terms of tactics and the like. Really good.
Only problem is how would this fit into the story?

@ Aumir: Maybe it would be before the core, say if they added another elevator. Also, i agree w/ the other bosses, but w/ Crimson before the King (since they are his underlings)
Fighting all 4 at once wouldn't really work considering that there are room traps, etc, needed to defeat them. Agreed that Euclid should be last.

@Ghret: I think this would be implemented after/ with the release of King Tinkinzar, assuming that he is the one holding them captive. Example: As you are going down, you encounter King Tinkinzar, who instead of fightning you, brings out the Alpha Squad instead. Or, if the alpha squad had been corrupted by The Swarm, there could be another elevator that's for them, and you then purify them in the sanctuary, etc.

That's a great idea! Euclid strategy, and rewards.

Phase 1:Euclid could be a sort of mirror to your knight, moving the same way your knight does. Trigger traps to deal damage to yourself, which damages him too. Assuming it's a him. After your death, the holiness of the true sanctuary (where you fight him) would revive you, which would begin the true final battle. He uses Swords, Guns, and Bombs of each status effect (Poison, Stun, Sleep, Curse, Freeze, Fire, Shock, for double the amount of time, if he hits you with each of the 7 effects it's instant death regardless of your health [He/She doesn't have to hit you with each attack consecutively, just at least once throughout the fight]), plus he/she also uses Swords, Guns and Bombs of each damage type (Normal, Piercing, Elemental, Shadow)! The worst part: before the battle starts, regardless of how many people are in your party, you're instantly isolated, so it's a 1-on-1 battle. If you win, you get your choice of a bronze version of your current equipment, a silver version of your current equipment, or a Gold version of your current equipment. Regardless of your choice, they all have the same stats: Swords, Guns and Bombs: MAX Damage Bonus, MAX Attack Speed Bonus, and MAX Charge Time Reduction Bonus. Helms, Armors, and Shields: MAX Defense Bonus (MAX Normal Defense, MAX Elemental Defense, MAX Piercing Defense, and MAX Shadow Defense). They cannot be unbound, or sold to vendors (you can sell bound gear to Basil, Kozma, etc.) They are automatically Heat Level 10. One more thing: He/She's strong against every damage type, and can't suffer from status effects. If you die in the battle, you use up one of 3 lives. You have 3 lives, lose them all and you must wait for the rest of your party to finish their respective battles. If 2 win and 2 lose, then you don't make it to the King. It must be 3/4 Knights win or more to make it to King Tinkinzar.

Great idea(s)! Only thing is that if you get isolated, what if a fellow teammate takes forever or goes offline, and you're left hanging? Unless there is a time limit to the fight... (similar to lockdown)
Also i just thought of an interesting concept: what if Euclid changed equips during the fight to match different characteristics of previous bosses? (which he uses to fight you)

-Barb thorn blade -> Snarby; has the ability to teleport/ burrow w/ spikes
-(Royal) jelly armor -> Royal Jelly; spawns mini jellies and can heal
-___ -> Roar Twins; ___
-Crest of Almire -> Vana; when he shields, causes lava/ debris to fall

As for rewards, i was thinking that if the A.squad members had their own unique armor/ weapons as seen during the fight, the player could get tokens/ craft (similar to sanctuary crafting) the specific armor/ weapon of each boss.

good idea although

i think the guy who teleports should be a recon insted of teleporting giving recons a history and guardean should also be a guardian from lock down giving that a history and leader should be striker or scout should be striker

Yeah i thought of that, it would be a pretty interesting boss fight.... If that happened, you could fight all 4 at once... or it could be this rare occurrence in lockdown if you're playing guild teams, and you basically fight those bosses (instead of another live team) and you get some special reward!

maybe the numbe of the

maybe the numbe of the knights changes to how many is in the party, and the arena's also match the number of the party, so it could be a knight v knight
maybe their weapon should adjust to your as well, so if you fought with a sword theyd do the same. wont be the exact sword though.

I'm not going bother with improving the details but I like it alot, it would be like the shadow lairs: a boss that's been tainted in some way or form AND would explain what happened to alpha squad

A little note

Even though I now defend that the Core will not have fights and seeing as the Swarm is actually a force outside the Core, this could still be a possible fight if we were to fight in some sort of twisted reality where Haven may have fallen to the Swarm (as Shadow Lairs show corrupted alternate versions of our original scenarios). This Tainted Haven idea isn't actually mine (a poster in my Shadow Distortion topic made it), but I think it could fit in this situation.

Yeah, i think this kind of boss fight would be best for certain situations/ events that could occur in the game. If OOO decides to put in some sort of plot event that happens (like a holiday event), this idea would fit in pretty well.

Maybe, but since this is a pro party

After they've all been defeated, they'll all come out and fight one last time, together. Each one will be weakened significantly, but it'll still be a challenge.
Should be only for parties of 4 though.

Swarm Alpha Squad

Perhaps the Swarm infected Alpha Squad and corrupted them. The members might have the following properties, with the noted classes having the same abilities as in Lockdown:

Euclid: Normal. Equipped with Aegis, Leviathan Blade, Valiance, Nitronome, and wearing the Azure Guardian set.
Pattern: Uses sword at start, bombs as more damage is taken, and kites with gun when low on health.

Parma: Recon class. Equipped with a Shivermist Buster and wearing the Mercurial Demo set.
Pattern: Cloaks for as long as her bar will allow, marks you to lower your defenses, and attacks during recharge.

Grantz: Guardian class. Equipped with an Acheron and wearing the Ancient Plate set.
Pattern: Attacks when possible, shields when attacked.

Rulen: Striker class. Equipped with a Final Flourish and wearing the Mercurial set.
Pattern: Hit and run.

What do you guys think of this arrangement?

I think the armor ideas are good, just that they would all look kind of strange... Maybe if you could inspect them (like a normal player) before the fight, and that's the armour, or they have their own "alpha squad armor" like that in lockdown, etc, just with the boosts given bye the above suggested armor. For the fightning pattern, i think that would be good, just to tweak on Parma, possibly a explosive bomb and a gun instead of a vaporizer, just cuz players would get pissed, and it would take a while to get killed (from thawing). I feel like Grantz should use a slower weapon, like triglav or suduruska, etc, just feels more fitting...

i like them coming out

so they come out weaker but theres a twist they pull out a insanely old health capsule that can: 1. mutate them or 2. heal them and then they all are at full.

guardian should heal his friend when he blocks

if mutated there stronger than before but attack speed is slower

@ Venomousbiohazard: Yeah something like that, or armor like that. Or even that shtuff with Alpha Squad insignia, or a certain set of "Alpha Squad Armor" that's completely unique.

@ Spyash: Likin' the idea, sort of like a last ditch effort... or at the end they go into "swarm-mode" or something, and they turn into swarm-like creatures (basically, the ones you find in unknown passage, etc)

I've been thinking about it some, and how about with each defeat, your time left to kill Euclid would decrease by a minute. Each player starts with 5 minutes. One player beats him, it goes down to 4 minutes, regardless of how much time's left. 2 players beat him, it goes to 3 minutes, so on. Also, I agree with you on the rewards thing. I'm sure that if it went my way, everyone would beat Euclid first to get the armor and helm, and then use that set to beat Darkfire Vanaduke. Also, I agree with you on the weapons. Again, if it went my way, I'd be dead in about 5 seconds.

Your timing system would probably work, but would that be if all the players split to fight the others? also, if that was the case that each player fights an individual boss, there could be a room w/ 4 elevators, one for each boss, and once a player gets on it, it locks, not allowing someone to get on or allowing you to switch boss elevators. And at the end, the party reconvenes to fight the whole (possibly powered up) alpha squad.
Also, on the twin's bomb: +1, maybe they shoot out like a rad sun bomb, lasers in each direction, having a slight delay (like retrodes lasers) so you can dodge. Either that or maybe heat seaking missiles that come out that only home in if something comes in at a certain radius.

Its a great idea for a boss(es). some questions though:
Do you fight them all at once, or do they all have separate rooms in one level?

Do they have to be tainted? i mean, if you have read/seen all the logs the alpha team left, it may be plausible for them to be protecting the core, thus why they haven't been able to come up. but they've been down there for so long, they don't remember friend or foe, they attack everything and everyone they see (which would be why they would have separate rooms in one level.)

It would be incredibly hard to have all of the alpha squad having their load-out's selected for them before you fight them based on your own team's load-out. There'd be so many combination's to even think about, and to program it in would be tricky. wouldn't it be easier to have like 4 different load-out's for the alpha team, and it gets randomly selected when you enter their room? (either all the team goes as one type e.g. elemental, or they each each go as a different types, e.g. elucid goes shadow, palma goes piercing, ect., and they're different each time you go down)

@Dark-Flare: Now that I give it more thought, you're right. I think the 4 elevators would work, and the bomb would too.
@Baraga: I like that idea a bit more, the Alpha Squad being corrupted is taking a bit of a darker spin on the Spiral Knights plot. I think 3 Rings was trying to keep the game light and silly, but also frustrating and as a way to bring friends closer togehter.

Your 2nd point is valid, that could be another explanation. I was thinking tainted or they're captive by King Tinkinzar, and are forced to fight.
And lastly, i agree that to have their loadout correspond with our own would be super complicated, a set loadout would work better, and easier for you to prepare to fight them.

Im not sure if anyone else suggested this because I didn't read the posts, but I think this would be interesting:

4 players in party: 1 vs 1, 1 vs 1, 1 vs 1, 1 vs 1 One knight battles one member of the alphas.
3: All playersd battle the 4
2 players: Both kill 2, or battle together.
1 player: Good luck with that...
