What bosses would you like to see in Spiral Knights?

Inspired by this thread, after Zedoshi wondered how a Gun Puppy boss would be at all possible. My mind went to work, and this is what I came up with:

-The boss would have three heads, akin to the gatekeeper of hell Cerberus. You'd have to destroy all three heads to defeat it.
-Each head would have an attack of its own: one would be a spread of status-inflicting bullets, another would have curving streams of fire, and the last would shoot a multitude of rockets. These heads would alternate randomly to attack you. After two heads are destroyed, the last one would essentially go crazy and fire its preferred projectile all over the place.
-It would have a special spinning attack where it goes so fast, it would generate a whirlwind to pull you towards it and knock you away painfully upon contact. (If this on its own is too easy, it can have alternating spike floors around it instead.)
-When the battle begins and each time a head is destroyed, other Gun Puppies will spawn around the edges of the area to add to the chaos.
-When all three heads are destroyed, it would malfunction and try a desperation whirlwind before finally exploding into delicious, delicious rewards.

Sounds difficult, but it's no more merciful than the other bosses in this game so far. Probably a Tier 2 boss.

So that's one of my ideas. I'll now open up the floor to hear what you think would be a good boss for Spiral Knights. There's no guarantee that the devs will put it into the game, of course, but I figured it would be a chance to throw our imaginations around.

Surprises

I would love to be surprised and am open to anything awesome. I didn't much care for the Royal Jelly but I really love what I've seen of Vanaduke. Haven't killed him yet but also haven't read any strats or anything for him, just been going at him with a friend and learning as we get there. It makes me think of the Zelda bosses I used to adore and I hope they do more along those lines.

An awesome boss like this

An awesome boss like this needs an awesome pun for a name. How about CerberUSB?

Still, would it be moving or stationary? I think it's about time we had a mobile gun puppy, seeing as the thought scares me senseless.

EDIT: Thought of a new one. Bahamutt.

What I'd prefer is a

What I'd prefer is a boss/boss-level at the end of each Tier, based on the Stratum created, instead of specifically set like how Firestorm Citadel is. I'm hoping this is the direction the creators are going.

id like to see a magma dragon were your dropped into a pit with a lave square in the middle and big enough to have the magma dragon but tight enough that we have a hard time dodging his attacks and his special would be a large flame being spit out by him while he turns around the square pit (maybe circular pi ) thats all i got

Yes.

I'm an inspiration to all, so no need to acknowledge it specifically.

On to another idea though, since you got a good rocket puppy one....

This is a bit overused, but since we have lizards in the game anyway: A giant chameleon that goes invisible. And completely, not just barely like the regulars.

It could steal items, and maybe even health drain. 100 hp par bar of hp or something. Could maybe change the color of the arena to confuse people, and hide thorns that are normally visible.

I'd like to see how a mewkat boss would turn out, too.

I think the Cerberus idea

I think the Cerberus idea would work nicely for a Wolver boss too.

Although, a Power Rangers-style Construct Boss would be awesome. Starts off in 5 pieces, each with different attacks and element/status effect that it causes, and when all five are dead they reform into a giant robot that you have to hack the legs off of, then smash the body and arms, and then attack the head.

I'm really hoping for some

I'm really hoping for some teamwork-oriented bosses a la Four Swords and Four Swords Adventures, since this game feels a lot like those games. Bosses where the teamwork-oriented sections are modified based on current playercount (so if you must hit a switch during a certain phase, there's 1 switch per person), and you do all sorts of creative things.

Perhaps even make bosses where the boss has phases based on the current players' equipment (so the boss would require use of bombs during a phase if one of the players has bombs, but not if no one has them).

We need a really big angry

We need a really big angry Snipe with some sort of hat and an eyepatch that we have to fight over a misunderstanding. Then, it gives us snipe tokens that allow us to purchase a snipe armor set, including an armor featuring snipe shoes.

The snipes on the armor will be made of metal or something, not real snipes. Maybe the boss could be a robot snipe, too. That way we won't have to kill any of the game's mascots.

I'd prefer a stage-sized

I'd prefer a stage-sized mecha with a Gun Puppy head (the stage IS the mecha). You would quickly travel from one point to another on the body of the mecha, targeting weak points as sort of mini-boss fights, each one requiring a unique strategy. For example, say you go to his power supply. You could destroy it by killing special shock-construct enemies while they stand in a specific spot to overload it.

For another stage, you could reflect lasers shot every so often from turrets or towers.

After you completed X number of stages, you would reach the head of the boss, which would be a giant Puppy head that fires Starlight Breaker.

OK, maybe Starlight Breaker's a bit excessive. Giant lasers, anyways. Preferably ones that require you to stand in certain locations to avoid taking a hit (behind pillars or blocks or something).

A graveyard-themed boss.

A graveyard-themed boss. Exists in a single, reasonably large room, containing a number of graves (with zombie-spawning as normal) Boss looks like a particularly large phantom. If you whale on the boss long enough, he retreats to an enormous version of the "tiny regenerating sphere" form, at which point you can actually start to harm him. After a while, he comes back to full force, and you have to carve through his shell again before you can injure him once more. Dealing enough damage to the boss splits off a standard phantom, which you then have to deal with for the rest of the fight. when he comes back from his tiny sphere form, he refills all triggered graves, and summons zombies from all nontriggered graves. (this still leaves them full. The new guy kicked the old guy out.) He doesn't have as many minions as the jelly king, and he can't heal himself, but the minions he does have are enough of a problem that you can't just ignore them. Defeating him gives you his drops and opens the gate to the elevator, but doesn't actually kill off his minions.

Intended as a high difficulty tier-2 boss. Alternately, add in some additional nastiness with Shadow Vogs and flavor as "Dead Vanaduke" for a tier 4 boss.

Another: Vog. Could be encompassed by the desire for a cerberus-like boss. But of course, I'd just rather see lore already in the game expanded on instead of new stuff that doesn't have a place. Not that it couldn't be worked into place, just my preference.

New Elements!

It's pretty clear from reading the "which armor should I get?" discussions that it limits the game to have only one elemental boss. I don't care about the specifics, but having a boss for each other element/status (poison, shock, ice, curse) would make it so that there isn't a single best end-game equipment set. To optimize against such varied bosses, we'd need to accumulate different armors and weapons and if some of those were minor bosses that might appear in the levels before Vanaduke, it might lead to more interesting outfitting strategies.

Kat Boss

Kat Lord [to be named...]

Concept: The Kat Lord is a social entity, a metamind of the most powerful of normal kats.

Room: A square room with the Scarlet Fortress theme. There are gaps in the floor to impede player movement and a two-tile rim of spiked tiles.

General Appearance: A large white kat.

Attacks:
a. Charge and bite in a straight line that zig-zags back and forth.
b. Disappear and reappear in another location.
c. A circular explosion of other kats that deal damage and knockback.
d. Standard kat shots of random status types.
e. "Split": The Kat Lord breaks into a pile of lesser kats who circle the outer rim of spiked tiles and spew shots across the room. After an amount of time or enough lesser kats have been killed, the remainder merge back into the Kat Lord.
f. "Type dominance": After merging, the Kat Lord adopts the color and shots of the kat type with the most survivors.
-Spookat: No special abilities.
-Hurkat: Leaves a poison trail
-Bloogato: Periodic local area of effect that freezes
-Pepperkat: Spews flamethrower trails [on top of the normal shots]
-Statikat: Lightning bolts periodically shoot outwards from its body
-Mewkat: Does NOT do normal attacks but it's immune to poison, heals quickly and has a life-drain effect if you walk into it.

Other notes: Item drops vary depending on what type dominance it holds and whether or not it was defeated in Kat Lord or split form.

Gizmar, The Crimson Engineer

Gremlin Boss - Gizmar, The Crimson Engineer

Lore: A distressing rumor has made its way from the gremlins of Emberlight to the streets of Haven. Enraged at the presumption of the Spiral Order, King Tinkinzar has called for their destruction! Chief Engineer Gizmar of the Crimson Order has been dispatched to scour the Clockworks of their insolent presence. Not a stone shall be left standing that has supported the weight of an insolent Knight!

Location: A large room is made much smaller by breakaway rocks lining the exterior. As the rocks are cleared away by the Knights, or Gizmar, his bombs and AOE attacks become much easier to dodge. Speckled throughout the rocks are a few Love Puppies that will fire hearts at the closest target, be it Gremlin or Knight.

///Abilities
- Massive Thwack (Normal): Gizmar's melee attack, used whenever there are 2 or more Knights in melee or no Knights at range, is a 360 degree sweep that will knock Knights back and inflict a strong stun. This attack does not have a charge time, but requires a few seconds of recovery after it is used.

- Throw Bomb (Elemental): Every 8 seconds Gizmar will toss a bomb at the nearest Knight. The bomb will stick to the targeted Knight and detonate after a 5 second countdown. A pool of fire is left behind, centered on the Knight's location at the time of detonation, that will burn for several seconds.

- Rocket Gun (Pierce): When no Knights are within melee range of Gizmar he will pull out his Rocket Gun and fire at the nearest Knight. Gizmar's rockets leave a pool of fire on impact that burn for several seconds.

- Health Capsule: Periodically Gizmar will charge up a health capsule over his head and heal to full after a 4 second charge time. This can be interrupted by melee attacks, and if so, spawns a health capsule at Gizmar's feet.

//Defense

Gizmar utilizes dodge while firing his Rocket Gun or Throwing Bombs.

//Catch Phrases

Health Capsule, "You never know what you're gonna get."

TrojaCide

Lore: TrojaCide is the keeper of the core and leader of the Trojans. He was a spiral knight who made it into the core, where the extreme radiation from the energy mutated him and drove him to insanity. Thanks to all the power he got from the core, he believed that the Spiral Knights were trying to disassemble the heart of Cradle, and became the leader of the formidable Trojans and protector of the Core.

Appearance: TrojaCide is actually riding a horse chess-piece. He is only slightly larger than the average Spiral Knight, but lacks legs. In his leg's place is wire made out of the 5 minerals. This connects him to his horse. On his shoulders and head are crystals spiking out that change colors. He has several glowing wires running through his body like a tier 3 Trojan. The horse also has similar wires. He carries two swords made out of crystal. He wears black, ominous armor.

Arena: A chessboard like arena.

Battle:The battle begins with TrojaCide hopping the other side of the room. Guns will do nothing if you try to shoot him in any phase (bombs are a bit ineffective), so you draw your sword and try to approach him. If you get too close, he'll quickly lash out at you with his two swords, flinging you a good distance. Shields will instantly crack and you'll take damage if he does hit you while shielding, so the only way to counter is to slash at him with your sword as he is coming at you. he will go back, and slash again. if you can counter him 3 times in a row his guard goes down, which is your chance to wail away.
He next does some basic sword attacks that are shieldable and dodgeable. He will not be counterable with your sword in this part of the phase. he is invincible in this part of the phase, so just survive.

After that phase, he leaps to the center of the arena, destroying some of the tiles around him so you can't reach him. His horse than goes into frenzy mode, spamming bullets everywhere. He will also summon his minions, which are pawns (the chess piece) with different artillery. Some scoot around, laying bombs, some have guns, while others have swords and shields. They have similar markings to Trojacide and his horse. When you defeat a pawn, it's weapons and markings vanish, so you can pick them up and chuck them at TrojaCide when you have the chance. Chuck 5 and the tiles will reappear and his guard will go down, allowing you to wail away on him.

He'll then go back to his first phase, but this time he speeds up so he is more difficult to counter. After you counter, he will once again go back to normal sword attacks, but this time having crystal shockwave attacks. Once again he is invincible, so survive his onslaught yet again.

Instead of doing his gunning phase, however, this time he'll split into four transparent copies of himself. He is invincible when he is not one entity, so what you must do is attack them into each other with your swords, so they'll combine again. Although they are light and move back a far distance when split into four, he gains weight as he combines with more copies, making it harder and harder to hit him into one of his copies. When his recombined, he will be stunned, so go to town.

Depending on how much damage you do to him when he is stunned, he may be able to split again, but this time his clones attack faster. Meaning that unless you want to repeat this phase several times, give him all you got.

His horse can no longer take the abuse it has been getting, so it explodes. Basically, TrojaCide lost his legs. Without a way of transport, TrojaCide starts digging beneath the arena, occasionally popping up to fire a few projectiles out of his sword. Occasioanlly, he will track a knight down and jump up behind them.

If the knight isn't fast enough to turn around and slash him back into the ground, using that chain that TrojaCide used to connect to his horse, he'll jab it into a knight's back, "controlling" him.

if there is only one knight fighting him, he/she has to mash the attack button to get TrojaCide off while TrojaCide drains his/her health.

If there are multiple people, Trojacide will walk around connected to your knight, occasionally quickly lunging. You must counter this lunging with your sword to get his guard down, and then you must run behind your teammate and attack TrojaCide until he loses control of your teammate. Your teammate can do nothing if he/she is being controlled, only being able to chat.

After beating away at TrojaCide for 5 long phases, he will fall to the floor, and explode into a frenzy of crystals (That cannot damage you). Congrats, you have just defeated the boss of the core!

Notes: Vials will do nothing to effect him. He uses pierce damage most of the time, so armor that resists pierce damage is necessary.

Gizmodeus: Advisor to the

Gizmodeus:

Advisor to the Throne and Master Tinker of the Crimson Order, Gizmodeus is both a master of Technology and Destruction beyond any normal means.
His body, transformed by gruesome experiments he conducted upon himself, has immortalized him at the cost of his very own humanity.
But that is the price of true power.

Appearance:

Gizmodeus is not much larger than other Gremlins, maybe 40% larger. He has a similar model to Menders, however it appears to have little horns poking out either side of his head. It's also bright red and lined with Gold. His wrench is a combination of the Thwack Hammer and Wrench Wand, except with a Crimsonite Crystal in the end. His Shield is similar to any other Gremlin's Shield, except the metal rim is Gold. It also has a large Crimsonite Crystal crudely hammered into it. His arms and legs are both robotic.
Part-way through the fight, he transforms.
His hood goes down and his armour is mostly ripped revealing his true form.
There is a large beam cannon grafted to his chest and his arms can interchange between hands and rocket launchers.
His legs also have rocket boosters.
His goggles glow bright red and as he loses HP, his horns change colour from a metallic grey to red.

Attack Patterns:

Gizmodeus is similar to a Gremlin Mender and Thwacker, combined. But with a dark twist.

Stage One (offensive mode):
The Regular Thwacker Swings, when they hit the ground, create sparks which can set players on fire. A direct hit from the attack can also stun them, creating a fire/stun combo.
Unlike Thwackers, he does not throw his wrench, as he can cast Magic Missiles instead.
He does not heal traditionally in offensive mode, only occasionally setting down healing pads.
He can call for Crimson Order Brothers to appear by his side.
Hitting his shield while it's on his back will set you on fire and stun you.

Stage One (defensive mode): He must lose a certain amount of HP in offensive mode to turn to defensive mode. Once this HP has been restored he will revert to Stage One (offensive mode) again.
He no longer does regular swings with his Wrench, he only casts magic missiles. His magic missiles in this mode fire out large and then split four ways, like Alchemer Bullets.
He heals self and target now.
He still rushes about, as if he were wielding only his Wrench, however instead it is a shield bash, similar to those that Trojans do.
Hitting his shield will set you on fire and stun you, giving him a chance to perform his opportunity attack, where he attacks using his Wrench like a Trojan.
He can call for Crimson Order Brothers to appear by his side.

Stage Two (offensive mode): Losing a certain amount of HP in Stage One (defensive mode), he will move to Stage Two of attacks. His max HP is lowered (so he can not revert to Stage One mode) and his attacks become more wild.
His regular swings are chained much quicker. They also have a wider Area of Effect.
His Magic Missiles split like they did in Stage One (defensive mode).
He can do a whirlwind spin with his wrench now, which can set you on fire, stun you as well as knock you quite far away.
He still uses Healing Pads.
He can still summon Crimson Order Brothers.

Stage Three (defensive mode): After losing a certain amount of HP in Stage Two (offensive mode), he becomes Stage Three (defensive mode). His max HP is lowered again.
This is much like Stage One (defensive mode), however he actively uses what was previously an opportunity attack.
He uses Healing Pads, as well as self and target heals. He can also turn fallen Gremlins nearby into Rimrodes. Rimrodes are half Crimson Order Gremlin and half Retrode.
His Magic Missiles split twice. First vertically/horizontally splitting, then diagonally splitting.
He no longer summons Crimson Order Brothers.

Stage Three (desperation mode): After losing even more health, he reverts to desperation mode. He still has a lot of fight left, but he concentrates almost purely into offense. He shatters his shield to pieces in rage and tears off his hood to reveal his true form.
He can now fire a wide lazer beam from his chest. It takes a while to charge up but is almost surely an instant kill to those caught within it.
He can also fire homing rockets from his hands.
He now does a high flying ground attack, where he uses a leg booster assisted jump to smash the ground with his Wrench.
His whirlwind attack can suck you into it if you get too close.
If any remaining Rimrodes are alive, he will combine them to become Gizmodes, a mix between a Trojan, Retrode and Gremlin. They have low hitpoints and can no longer be healed, but are much more destructive.

Stage four (martyr mode): After losing all of his HP, Gizmodeus removes his limiter. His body becomes supercharged with energy but he will shortly explode and die. He does this in the hopes of taking you down with him. Watch out! Although he has few hitpoints left, his attack patterns will largely leave him untouchable until key moments.
His regular attacks are so fast he leaves behind shadow copies of himself, however they deal much more knockback than before making it hard for him to chain them.
He can now sweep his chest lazer, covering large areas of the room with it. However it leaves him vulnerable for a moment after.
He throws his Wrench like a boomerang. It flies around him 360 degrees hitting people within that certain radius. If you are close to him, you will not be hit.
He will flying ground attack towards people who shoot at him.
He can summon two Gizmodes at a time.
He has a timer of four minutes before his body explodes. If you are caught in this explosion, you will die.
If you kill him before his timer goes down, you have a chance of receiving a special item.

Details:

Gizmodeus can not be inflicted with any status, besides Shock.
Shocking him in later stages will cause his chest beam to become much more powerful and charge up quicker, however.
To combine Rimrodes, all he needs to do is be near two or more. He then casts something on the ground which kills them and out pop the Gizmodes.
There is a countdown timer before he explodes in the final stage. When he falls over to die, a large radius will appear on floor showing where the explosion will effect. If you are inside it, you will die.
He is intended to be a boss leading up to King Tinkinzar.

That's my idea.
You asked for it.

Logic would seem to dictate

Logic would seem to dictate that with ten stratum themes, there should be 10 "bosses". We have a Tier 2 boss for Slime (Jelly King) and a Tier 3 boss for Fire/Undead (Vanaduke). Since Vanaduke is the same regardless of the stratum theme, make him one or the other (most likely fire) and introduce new "bosses" for each stratum theme.

For Tier 3 you could have Lord Vanaduke and his "brothers". One for each of the 4 status conditions (Fire, Shock, Poison, Freeze) plus Undead (would do curse).

This would leave the other five stratum types (Slime, Beast, Fiend, Construct and Gremlin) for Tier 2. Slime (as I mentioned previously) already has the Jelly King, but for the others I'd suggest:

Beast: A "wolver king". Larger than the alpha wolvers, the wolver king in addition to all the things the alpha wolvers can do, can revive alpha wolvers and wolvers killed within a certain radius.

Fiend: Keeping in theme with the "work theme" of the fiends, a fiend "CEO/president". Would be able to spawn new fiends of any type.

Construct: A large tank like monster that periodiclly spits out mechas of various types.

Gremlin: King Tinkinzar seems a "natural"
