Wisp Shields

We have many armors, shields, and weapons based on in game monsters, and the wisps seems to be an ideal one to mimic for a new shield line. Four paths starting with a 2* base like the Brandish sets, then diverging into the four different status types. Each shield would offer increasing protection against the chosen Status to the point of immunity in Strata 6 for a level 10 5* version. Also the 5* version, on being struck, would release a haze causing the elemental status for a very short duration, much like the greaver's attacks.

The damage protection would be elemental, but I was considering a split between elemental and shadow, since that split hasn't been done before.

I'll support this if it comes

I'll support this if it comes with a metal mask that has a Wisp face on it.

Not sure how the "release status effect" thing would work. It'd be interestin', that's for sure...

Great idea.

Great idea. I think this "release status effect" will work like this. If u have fire shield, when your shield brake it will release a 1 or maybe 0.5 sec haze of fire elemental. Range will be same as 2* fire vaproizer (or maybe even smaller). And if they will be an split between elemntal and shadow there should be no special status ressistanc (This line will be like nightsblade from brandish). And for that elemental/shadow shield, haze will cause only elemental or shadow damange. But this shield (if he will have haze) defens should be decreased. But, this shield will be still a little overpowered.

Would it be a good idea to

Would it be a good idea to have a longer regeneration time to compensate for it's ability to haze enemies?

The shield could be use the Buckler model, and have the Wisp's "element" mane behind it. Or be similar to the Swiftstrike Buckler.

"would offer increasing

"would offer increasing protection against the chosen Status to the point of immunity"
Remember it's a shield, not armor so what do you want?. By immunity do you mean it will never break from a zombie's breath for example?

Thank you.

@ Juances Exactly what I was thinking, but also turret flames, pure-status floor traps, and the status attacks of lichen. I'm not sure if the current game mechanics for shields support this, but I'm pretty sure elemental damage is tagged with status types.

@ Alpha I was thinking a slightly lower health for the shield, as that's a stat that can be altered easily, whereas I'm not sure if the regen type for a broken/damaged shield is variable between different lines. Is it?

@ Witalon You're right in that it should act exactly like the brandish line: the status ones become pure elemental protection, while the elemental/shadow protection one merely reflects a little damage back, like the Shankle. The way you described the haze is what I had in mind.

@ Magnicth I don't think the shield should allow you to disrupt the patterns wisps currently have in that they can only be hurt when stopped. However, the idea of having +dam vs drones on the shield is an interesting one, in that if it was included it would hint that drones would be part of a much larger content addition later on. Otherwise, it'd seem to be unnecessary and would distract from the other parts of the shield.

Problem or not

I found something that could be a problem. If we take fire wisp shield in FSC or in any fire themed lvl and its break, the haze status will be useles. So maybe to switch that when fire shield break he release a freez haze, freez one release an shock haze and shock one release a fire haze (?). This will be maybe stupid, but still without that change it would be like taking AoA in FSC.

But it could still be usefull even witout this change. Because if it fire resistinc if will not break very fast in FSC or any other fire themed lvl.

So what do you think? Change or no change?

I think no change.

what about the other shields

im sure if this were to happen everyone would flock to those particular shields sense they have more to offer than say grey owlite or heater shield.

but other than that i like it

Then perhaps the Wisp Shields

Then perhaps the Wisp Shields would have to end at 3-4 stars, kinda like the Swiftstrike Buckler.

Maybe it can be an alternative alchemy line for the -Breaker Shields!

...as upgrades of Breaker series?!?!?!? YES. Upgrade onto the Breaker Shields as 4 star! That would be very nice! It would be reviving some pretty unused shields, but this would be awesome. +1 from me. I would put +2, but it's a vote.

@witalon: That was more the point than the problem: a shield that's always useful. Either it protects against the depth's status, or in inflicts that status on enemies. The only time it'd be a major drawback is against oilers and quicksilvers.

@Frocus: I agree with alpha and heavy's answer to this.

@ Alpha & Heavy: +1 This would be the best answer. It would not obsolete the other shields, and give new life to the breaker series. That said, 2 problems:
1) There is no poison Breaker line for a poison wisp shield, or a similar line for a shadow/elemental def 'acheron' like shield
2) There is no line we could branch off from to make them.

Making a poison breaker line is not a huge deal; they did the same with the Haze bombs, and the shadow/elemental defense isn't really in line with the wisp theme so it could easily be dropped.

Scenario: You've got a freeze wisp shield equipped. You mess up and get surrounded by mechaknights, who all suddenly get frozen in place as soon as they try to attack your shield, and now become impossible to shield-bump away. You die.

I think this is actually a pretty genius idea :)

People have said how the status release might cause issues with monsters, like charging quicksilvers, etc... Thus it takes more skill to use and hopefully those using it will develope a new SK style, etc... or if they're just really careful...

If you are going to have the shield emit shtuff everytime its hit, that might be overpowering, so i suggest you making it a possibility to emit/inflict the status, just like how most other status inflicting weapons operate.

I kinda think the Shields doing damage is kind of over powered. Then there'd be a UV for such thing and you've got Grey Owlite Shields that not only protect from Shock and Fire, but can DEAL Shock and Fire. I think remove the damaging part, and I'd still want to buy one :D. We can probably put away the Poison drone. Though he may be lonely, Poison actually doesn't deal damage like the others do.
