((Hello and welcome to my first ever fan-fiction. I do not know how long this will be, and I will be accepting a very limited number of applications. It is mainly designed for the purpose of being a precursor to the stories of The Clockworks Renegades, and also to Spiral Story. I highly suggest that you read both of those.))

((ahem, all references to names, places, people, or events implicated by the following passage are purely fictional and are not meant in any way shape or form to implicate anything.))

'Long before the time of the Knights, before the Almirian empire, before the clockworks, before wolvers, lumbers, etc, there was a planet. And on that planet, there lived a race, much unlike the Knights, taller yet less durable. They were fully biological, much like the wolvers and gremlins of today. Their race was one of constant strife and suffering. Separated at its founding, the several civilizations were never able to work together, always fighting and warring with each other.

And so the life was for this mysterious race, a constant struggle for existence. But they had one advantage over the elements around them, one thing that would finally offset the struggles that only they fought -- civilization'

Torx looked up from the ancient transcription of the even more ancient tome, up from his translation guides and theories on syntax, up from that which he had been working on since he realized they threat they were facing ((see The Clockwork Renegades)). That was as far as the books had worked, from there was mystery, a piece of knowledge untouched since the birth of Cradle as it now is. But Torx had to change that. He had to discover what was in the tomes, lest all life on Cradle be reduced to nothing by the fatally infectious void.

Pondering their seemingly impossible predicament, he went back to translating -- a slow and arduous task.

'They were the only ones who could change the world, learn it, manipulate it. They conquered the elements, bending water and fire to do as they wished. They designed machines and weapons to defend themselves, more than adequate replacements for the claws and fangs they lacked. They developed medicine, physics, chemistry, astrology, philosophy -- and with this knowledge at their ringer tips, they began the ultimate search: That for a true understanding of existence.

The longer they thought about how, the more they did. They built cities, structures based not on natural phenomena, but on their own ideas of pragmatism and form. They killed the world, and rebuilt it in their image. They had become the masters, as Nature once was.

But they eventually found they could go no farther. Of course, they could travel faster and farther and in more luxury than their ancestors had even dreamed of, but it seemed not that they would find the end to their quest, no meaning, no true answers.

Until two of them discovered it. Daniel James and Michael Bayne were their names,' What strange names they had Torx thought. ' and they had found the salvation of their race. A wonderful bliss fell over them, for now they could have everything. No danger, no threat, just pure happiness.

Then they created The Games.'

((Well, that's it for the first chapter, and I know its kinda monologue-y. It will relate to Spiral Knights and it will have actual characters, just wait a few days. Tell me what you guys think of this below, and thanks a lot for reading!))

Chapter two: The Creation

((These chapters are going to be short but slightly frequent so that it doesn't fly too far ahead of the other story lines.))

'The Games were an answer to a plea, one brought about at the despair of losing all interest in life. For the arrival of peace, bliss, and absolute safety had crushed their wills. There was no struggle, no meaning. They had become a people without a purpose.

So they worked together to create a new way to survive -- one not truly real, but real enough to give them direction. Each citizen split his consciousness into three: one piece for the justice and order within them, one for the evil and chaos, and one for the residual instincts of before technology. They built bio-mechanical warriors, mostly robotic but with living powers of thought and learning, and placed the pieces inside them, splitting them up accordingly.

Much as their for flung ancestors had, they pitched their 'knights' -- who were really simply embodiments of their own minds-- into mortal combat, called The Games. The prize was one that the semi-conscious knights could not resist: sentience. The ability to live as their own beings, as individuals. Housed in a massive computer, this secret knowledge was placed in space inside a large half-circle ring, only accessible by a spaceship called the Skylark. But they could not use this Skylark without a power source. The only power strong enough was locked away at the core of the planet, then the mantle and crust themselves were hollowed out and replaced with a massive maze of danger far larger than any ever previously imagined, and it was called the Clockworks.

The three factions: the Guardians, the Fallen, and the Vogs, they fought for years innumerable. Never relenting, always in search of that one goal.

But something happened... something that would end The Games forever, and shatter the consciousnesses of the enlightened race forever, unable to function as individuals.'

Torx knew that this book contained the secrets to saving Cradle he just had to find out before it was too late. He heard what sounded like fighting in the distance, but definitely still in the same depth.

Realizing that his time was growing short, he doubled his efforts, and continued to translate.

Chapter Three: The Battle

•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

'The War of the Skylark went on for centuries, slowly depleting the numbers of Knights remaining to each faction. The fights began to slow down, each side becoming more and more frugal with their deployments, until finally an apparent stalemate was reached.

This, of course, was not to the liking of their creators. So the leaders of each faction: ((Accepting names for these three!!!!!)) were forced to meat in front of the Skylark, alone, and fight each other in a death match. Living as warriors, the leaders were the best fighters among the Knights, and were also equally matched.

They traded blows, each vying for the upper hand, each trying to understand the others thoughts. But, much to the dismay of the spectators, it was a true stalemate. None of them could land a blow on the others. For hours, they sat there, staring into the very being of their enemies, ready to slice and slash at any moment. But all was still.

Until something clicked; as something in the souls of them had set the three off. They lunged, swords meeting in the center with a CLANG heard for miles.

Then the valley in which they fought was filled with an eerie blue light, followed by the three combatants exploding.'

((Hey guys, I know this story is probably pretty terrible, so if you want to give any advice, even if its like "TROLOLOl u spelled the wrong 3 times" it would still be appreciated more than nothing! Please try to come up with good names, as that is the thing I am worst at, and then I will actually be able to write some real stuff happening, as opposed to this boring monologue.))

It's nice

It has a very original and mysterious storyline. I found little to no grammatical errors and the details were vivid. I'm looking forward to see how this ties in with The Clockwork Renegades :)
