Metal Sonic gear bound on acquisition?

This might be a bug, I'm not sure. Because the Metal Sonic gear is only available for a limited time, I wanted to pick it up and then save it for when it will be worth more later and resell it then. There are two ways to get it: Buying a $20 ce pack, or buying Sonic CD on Steam for $5. The latter seemed more sensible, since I don't really need the ce as much with an elevator pass and I do play through Steam.
But when I received the gear in-game, it was already bound to me without me equipping it. I see there are some in the Auction House already, I know you can get them unbound. Is it seriously only the $20 ones that come unbound? I would've gotten those ones if I'd known the $5 set would be bound, I don't particularly like the Sonic gear much. I feel too gypped to go and buy the $20 set now though.
There really needs to be a way to unbind costume armor.

Ah, thank you for clarifying that. They really need to mention that in-game, it makes it sound like a free bonus both ways of purchasing it, and I assumed it'd remain unbound either way.

You can also get it unbound from Boost for 3200ce per piece.

Oh yeah, forgot about him.
If you bought the Metal Sonic Pack for $20, you can use the CE to get another Metal Sonic for either a Bud or Extra Crowns in the Future.

@Nicoya-Kitty: Yeah, I just discovered that today, didn't know that. That's kind of weird in my opinion, you can get the Tails-Tails and Metal Sonic stuff buy either purchasing 3000-7000-odd ce, or by spending 3000-7000-odd ce. Hm.
@Ironskullkid: Yeah, I pretty much did just that, that's a great idea. Clearly this is in reference to both of your posts. XD
@Odinthefather: I actually picked up two Tails-Tails, one for me and one for a friend, I think they're the best things ever. Tails ftw, both the character and the appendages.
If you buy Sonic CD off of Steam, you get it for Free as a thank you, BOUND.
If you buy the $20 Pack, you get the Metal Sonic Costume UNBOUND, as well as the Starter Kit Bonus.
