Demos

No, im not talking about a Demo of the game (its free), im talking about Recording Demos.
Demos would be only available on Lockdown/Blast network.
In order to start a Demo you could:
1) Go to options and on Advanced Video Options select "record a demo"
After you click record, SK will ask you to name your demo.
2) Console Command "record x" where x = Demo name (But Spiral has no Console so they would need to add one in this case)
3) Hotkey F6
Once you are done with your demo:
1) Go to options and on Advanded Video Options select "stop recording"
2) Console Command "Stop"
3) Hotkey F6
Demos will automatically stop when the Lockdown/Blast network match ends, or the player can stop it manually.
The demo will be saved somewere on your Hard drive
To play a demo:
1) Before logging into the game, Go to options and go to Advanced Video Options and under "Record a demo" select "Play a demo"
This will show a list of the demos you have saved, with a alt-opcion of opening Windows File Browser to look for a demo on your PC
2) Console Command "Play x" where x = Demo name
Also, when a Demo is playing you get to see various options such as "Hide UI", "Slow/Fast Motion", "Spec different players", "Move camera" and other usefull options.
When you are playing a demo you are free to record it with any program such as Fraps/Playclaw
Notice that you will only be able to play demos BEFORE Logging in, playing Demos wouldnt require any internet connection.
Some of you might be asking: Why?
The answer is: Frag Movies
This would give dedicated PvP players the ability to share demos, and with the help of a Video editor, place them all together and make a nice Frag Movie.
Also frag movies work as a good Publicity, presonally, Frag movies are the reason why I bought Counter-Strike: Source and started playing some other games.
Also an alternative options would be something like the Team Fortress 2 replay function, wich im too lazy to explain.
Make sure to show me some support if you wanna see some frag movies and maybe do your own videos.

I completly forgot about the / , thats a nice idea too.
Yeah, performance is another of the reasons why I want OOO/Sega to release this.

At first, I thought you were going to say something about Nerfing Bombers.
Anyways, +1.

i like this idea, we could greatly improve how players can record their gameplay.

I think a replay system works slightly better than this: have an option to "record PvP games" in settings and then have a place to view them, maybe a tab like the social tab.
For viewing replays:
-Defaults on your character, press space to change
-Move cursor to the edge of the screen to move camera freely or use WASD
-Press space again to lock to nearest character
-"P" to pause/play, +/- to speed/slow down
Anything else i missed, just look at SCII's replay system. I took most of it from there. :)
EDIT: Or have a "save replay" option at the end of games.

Now that we have a spectator mode, that makes this all the more practical, useful and sensible. so... reconsider perhaps?

YES THIS
YES.
YES.
I WOULD BE PROUD IF I COULD RECORD IN-GAME.

Come on, it makes sense...

You know what...this idea might just work...
Although who is to say that is will go faster then just recording externally? Why just limit to lockdown/blastnetwork? The issue here is that there is a large majority who don't even care about any PVP but want to record. It would go faster to record the game if the game recorded itself, but by how much? It can have better control over what gets in that video file, but it still needs to save and possibly compress both the sound and video output. If it isn't compressed, then you will need a very large hard drive. This could be set by the options settings, but it might just add extra bulk to the game.
All that aside, I would be someone who would use this. If it's done right then you get a +1. Otherwise, I am mostly neutral on this idea.

meh.. search on google fraps for free video and there u go u have a recorder

1: Mac. No Fraps :(
2: Recording externally is different.
I can record externally whenever I want, I have Quicktime 10 which does it for me. But I am talking about a full replay system, like the ones in CoD, Halo, SCII, etc. A system where you can switch between views, see your allies and enemies' views, unlock the camera and move freely around the level, things like that. It would allow you to improve your playing, study your enemy more effectively, make higher (production) quality videos, maybe even cast some games...
@Autofire maybe they could do one for clockworks runs too.

I would like to see this in future . But there might be one problem which is : Will it affect the quality of the game ? If it will affect very much ( even with high specs Computers ) no one actually will record , because their performance will decrease . And don't forget the amount of lag and high rates of latency we already have , the spectating mode , all of these cause low framerates and lagging already . But if the recording system isn't heavy on the game and won't cause big amounts of lag then I am with it to the end .
One of the good examples of internal recording with games is Halo series . I remember that there was like a place where you can view others videos and screenshots and there was really entertaining things to see . So if we can implement this , OOO could make a section for uploading your demos and screenshots . It can be like the following :
- Category : Demos ( Videos )
* Most Popular
* Highest Rated
* Your uploaded Demos
- Category : Screenshots
* Most Popular ( viewed )
* Highest Rated
* Your uploaded Screenshots
____________________________________________
Note : To access the demos and screenshots menu , OOO may add another tab beside the "Party Finder - Missions" tabs called : "Demos Menu"
Note : Each demo ( video ) or screenshot can be given a like or dislike ( Though I don't really want it , but it could be ok )
Note : If you see a demo and liked it , you can uploaded it to your HDD . And as Canozo said , any demo you record will be saved in a place ( you choose it ) in your HDD .
Note : You can make your demo ( Not uploadable to anyone's hardrive , like Copyrights )

Anyway : +100000000

Bumping because this thread will be relevant until it is implemented.

Why should we have our own SK recording device? It always requires downloading

The replay should record the equipment and movements of players and saving each event in the match, instead of the actual video of the match. This way the data can be reloaded into a "lockdown simulator" which converts the data back into player movement and you could change spectator target like you would be able to in a live match. Not only would this be much more bandwidth friendly, it's also processor friendly, and very versatile.

tf2 replays .. in my spiral knight ... sure

I think this is what most theater/replay systems do in other games, so that makes sense.

bump because:
This made me think of Halo Forge.
Halo Forge made me think of Halo Theater.
That reminded me of how this game needs theater mode.
And that made me remember this thread. :P
I would love to see that; my CPU is too weak to handle playing the game and recording at once so having the ability to record demos and then having the ability to process them into normal media files would be really great.
About the console bits, it could be just under the /, no need for implementing a whole console when the info can be sent to the chat log.
