Great idea Nick and the Three Rings Staff, can't wait to actually be able to try it out I think this will add a whole new dimension to Spiral Knights. The pictures look very sexy I think Boswick did something good .... Nick I would pay attention to him you know he only works well when he wants something or is planning something big.
Now you're talking! Looks good. Do we have an expected release date for it yet Nick?
~Gwen
As posted no release date, but I am sure you just missed that since your usually a great reader <3
Btw can't wait to see rage on this idea....usually every update we get rage =(
Looks good so far.
So even though you say there's no expected release date....can we get at least a tentative time frame? Like are you planning it's going to be this year?
I'd love to try this out before it goes live, pwetty please can we have a preview~?
Yes, it is our intention to test parts of this feature on preview before releasing it.
Will the entry requirements for testing be the same as LD test server? Or will you be raising that with the mass influx of CE purchases since Christmas?
I think this will be quite fun...
I do have a few concerns though... The main one is wondering if I, in full Snarby Armor and with a massive arsenal of 5* weapon/armor/shields, will have to trudge through the preliminary missions that are meant for people who still wear proto armor just to unlock the later, and most likely more profitable, missions.
Another one is energy cost. I would love to have a few of the missions require no energy, so you can do them when you run out of mist, but I have a feeling that may not happen (Also it may raise the CE price a bit...).
I'm curious as to what the price of failure will be. Will it just be a slap on the wrists and a forced restart, or will you be unable to retry a failed mission?
My final concern is that allied AI will be on-par with the AI of current allied Mecha-knights...
I do really like the idea of using the Supply Depot. I probably will use it A LOT. They may raise the CE price... a lot.
I REALLY like the potential rewards for missions.
And um... yeah I have run out of things to say.
I am quite excited to see this finally arriving, well, when it arrives haha.
I am worried though about the cost of those Expansion thingies... I hope it isn't Shadow Lair expensive. The Supply Depot also intrigues me as a f2p player, but well, we will see what all is in due time. Waiting for it!
Another note- as I mentioned during my announcement of this feature back in December, an Elevator Pass covers the cost of all mission elevators. The only cost involved with missions if you own an elevator pass is the cost to unlock those bonus Expansion Missions.
An Elevator Pass remains a great investment!
I SEE NEW ARMOOOOORRR!!!
AND A NEW ENEMY!
THIS LOOKS EVEN MORE AWESOME THAN WHEN IT WAS ANNOUNCED!
Thankfully my 2012 total elevator pass covers this :D
Looks like I'll be unlocking EVERYTHING
Any idea when you guys will make any buff's or nerfs in the current gear? Personally, I been waiting to see the wolver line get nerfed down or the other lines a bit more useful, but thats just me.
DONT SLEEP, TAKE SOME OF MY SLEEP UVS, THEY WORK BETTER THAN COFFEE
Good luck with the development, Nick! And no rush, smooth out the bugs first before releasing this update.
Now I have something else to look forward to in SK (even if might take all year...)
Wow I'm actually pretty excited about this. Looks really fun!
Also while I'm here I feel like I should say that the community would really like some sort of developer feedback on something, maybe in the form of a monthly Q&A event or something like that. We don't want you to spoil everything that's coming up, but we would on occasion like to be able to ask some questions and get answers rather than feeling like we're being completely ignored here on the forums.
APRIL FOOL'S!
Oh, wait. That isn't until two months later.
This is literally making me X3.
Before the forum wisdom indicates that this feature is a year off, allow me to say that while there is no ETA yet, it's probably much sooner than you think.
"while there is no ETA yet, it's probably much sooner than you think."
It's 3am and I needed to sleep. I hate you.
Go to sleep Gigitrix, it's not tonight :)
are rank missions repeatable or do they run out once you do all 80?
It's 3am and I needed to sleep. I hate you.
I don't think it's that soon.
Rank Missions can be repeated as much as you like with some exceptions. However, you only receive the mission rewards one time (not counting all the goodies you find in the levels of course).
Wow. This sounds pretty cool. I'm really hopeful that Expansion Missions provide the challenge we've been waiting for.
Also, I like the idea of battlepods. It seemed sort of ghetto to have respawning monsters spawning from respawn pads. Battlepods should make it more clear what is and isn't respawning in certain encounters, without forcing the player to commit to a trial and error process.
what kind of rewards are we getting from doing the missions? exclusive gear/items? or just some more artifacts?
I suspect that people who bought the current ce promo will be able to get into the test server for this. Add 2 weeks to a month onto that, and we got release in March or April.
(Watch me be off by 4 months now)
THIS LOOKS SUPER COOL! And finally, a running plotline. KEEP UP THE AWESOME SHTUFF OOO!! XD
Wow! Sounds like a great system, Can't wait for it!
First anti aliasing support, then elevator pass and today we got both Dragon Wings and mission system preview?
Glad to know you guys listened. Now if we can get that little gun patch too.. you guys will be truly awesome!
Hector should join back now!
Looks great, Nick. Looking forward to it. :)
I have a question, does:
_______________________________________________________________________
"This includes accessories, weapons, gear, upgrades and even energy packs.
One of the things we’ve learned from player feedback and our data is that item availability is an issue for many new players. Finding what you need is important and the Supply Depot will allow you to never miss the item you need."
_______________________________________________________________________
Mean armor is more available to new players such as 2 star versions of some things that currently start at 3* like Chroma / Gunslinger etc? Or am I confused
Actually, I am curious about the supply depot as well as the expansion missions.
1. Supply depot
The Supply Depot
The Supply Depot is a new feature that is connected to the mission interface. The Supply Depot is a place where players can purchase items associated with missions for energy. This includes accessories, weapons, gear, upgrades and even energy packs.
One of the things we’ve learned from player feedback and our data is that item availability is an issue for many new players. Finding what you need is important and the Supply Depot will allow you to never miss the item you need.
However, items in the Supply Depot must be earned. Items are added to your personal Supply Depot as you rank up.
Lastly, it's worth noting that the Supply Depot is built to exist in a world where crafting and unbinding is an important part of Spiral Knights. It is our expectation that the players that choose to use the Supply Depot will be active crafters, unbinders and Auction House patrons like our current players.
----
What does this entail? Will we need to re-earn all our equipment to use in these missions? Or will what we already have be available to us? Or is this pertaining to entirely new items?
2. Expansion missions
Are these bought strictly with CE or will players have to buy these via cash in order to play them? (I'm mostly F2P with the occasional purchase)
----
Also, the "Arcade missions", is that what is already available to the players? (that is, the pre-exisitng clockworks.)
Oh, and you have the fire Alpha Wolver in the Rank mission preview graphic for the mission that talks about the ice Alpha wolver.
I'm guessing missions have their own equipment and loadout so no one can run in with end-game stuff and fly through. Should make it more fun, hmm?

Click the link in the OP then check out the 4 previews
It appears like we will get to take in our own gear: one pic has a guy with an owlite shield, one pic has a guy with some wierd gear combo, one has a guy with a CoA in a candlestick keep looking place. But we can all guess that the missions will be for new players and vets alike, with changing difficulties.
what about the missions that you unlock with CE?
do you have to unlock it every time or is it once only?
The wording used is curious....such as "personal Supply Depot" and talk about players being crafter, unbinder, and using the Auction House. I got the impression that Mission Gear will be separate to our regular Arsenal Gear, and guessing maybe vice-versa too.
I love you... =P Hahahaha. I'm glad its turning out good. I'm uber excited for this. And definitely iron out bugs if there are any. This is fantastic.
What the supply depot suggests to me is an alternative progression system. Instead of going to basil, getting recipes, and crafting items, you complete Rank and Prestige missions to increase your prestige which will unlock items that can be purchased directly with energy.
Obviously the Supply Depot won't cover the whole range of potential items, and a lot of the notable items probably won't be on there. I doubt we'll see purchasable polarises or divine avengers.
One thing that piques my interest is "unique rewards" from Expansion missions. I'd love to see costume items for those upper level players that send the message "Yeah, I'm a bad dude". Shadow Lair items did that for a while, but they became very widely distributed and with the unbind feature, sort of lost that prestige to them.
So, if you can find a set selection of recipes in the rank mission lobby...
Does this mean that the market for reselling recipes will die in hole, since instead of there being no certainty that Basil will have the recipe you want, you could just go to the appropriate rank mission lobby?
And what all sort of things will be rewards for missions? Will there just be crafting materials, or anything more valuable/rare/unique, such as gear, tokens, artifacts or costumes?
And about the test server deal... So if to gain access you need to buy something from the current CE promo to get in and I spent all the money I'm willing to spend on SK for the next couple of months on the last two promos, does that mean I'm just out of luck? Or will it not matter anyways since I'm a Steam user?
Also... WHY U NO make the Supply Depot deal in cr? We need cr sinks more than we need CE sinks.
So many questions. They will all be answered though once we can test / it's implemented though, cannot wait.
"it's probably much sooner than you think."
Also, I agree with Wolfkit. We definately need crown sinks instead of CE sinks to help the market w/o promotions though they have been very fun.
This really looks like a lot of fun. It seems to have a lot of new content that everyone can enjoy.
I'm so excited for this to come out. I love you Three rings.......did I already say that?
I guess it doesn't hurt to say it again.......I love you Three rings....okay now it's getting weird.
From the way Nick described Supply Depots, I am quite certain it is going to be a place for players to rent equipment that is better than what they have using CE in order to complete missions.
Must... Read... Everything...
Side note; There may be no date for release, but do you plan to run this through the test servers first?
EDIT ADDITION:
For whatever reason, I think the gun puppies in the bunkers are silly and adorable.
When you say rescue and then escape from an area with a guy, I hope you don't mean an escort mission where we have to protect his fragile body with ours. Because players hate that kind of stuff.
Is mission rank gonna reset periodically? I just want to make sure, so we don't have a set of people permanently at the top.
As for the supply depot, is it items, or just recipes? Because they way you talk about it, it seems more like it stocks pre-crafted weapons. I think that players have more issue acquiring mats and the recipe than the items itself, especially at higher stars. No need to supply the weapon right out. Though maybe it stock items that can only be used on missions that make said missions easier instead? It's not all that clear to me.
Overall, GAAAH I CANNOT WAIT.
