The Inn (A new social hub)

So haven is pretty barren, and guild halls may be taking over soon so I had an idea. When night falls (which it never really does on haven) where do knights go to rest? Well they just set there in a patch of soil and disappear for awhile. I Was thinking what if the knights had an INN!

Updated!

The Inn would be an area within the commons and would service as an area for players to gather parties before going into the clockworks, join guilds, and meet new people; in essence a new social hub.

Within the Inn would be a bar/inn keep-NPC (this would be a knight not a stranger) who would allow you to rent out rooms or strike up a conversation. There would also be a chef working in a window aside the barkeep (he would be a stranger) who would take different mixtures of materials to make you a meal which would be eaten on the spot and give a limited time buff. Players would have an access to go into the clockworks with a party from the Inn.

Amongst the bar would be sociable NPCs snipes, strangers, gremlins, knights. Scattered at the bar and sitting at tables maybe leaning against the wall, each npc would be able to tell you their own chronicles from the clockworks (this would service to improve spiral knights lore). Their would also be empty tables with interactable seating and tables. A band would be present consistently playing music for the customers enjoyment.

In addition their would be a sauna room, to access the room. Players would need a sauna key which they purchase for a certain amount of crowns from the barkeep. The sauna is a room flooded with mist energy and gives you a x1.5 or maybe a x2 boost to your mist container.

Give me your thoughts!

You know

this idea doesnt sound half bad! it actually seems kind of heartwarming. it would be complete with the knights favourite beverage brewers, removed directly from the Skylark's cantina! (which presumably surprisingly stayed intact) it would be a little piece of spiral home . also the room idea sounds nice, but i think youd need a vast amount of rooms to have competeable bidding on them~ the mist tanks would be pretty nice, although they would need to have limited purchase intervals~ great for new players though . and i like the seats idea, it would be extra fun if a spiral waitress came to your table and took your order, in which you could then pay a petty fee of say 10 crowns to see your character scarfing down a plate of food , and drinks would be available at the bar ... (for extra comic effect, buying a drink could have a chance of inflicting a random status effect)

Hmm..

I'm not sure about this, but most of it seems okay. I don't really want to pick this thing piece by piece and analyze it, so I'll just tell you what stuck out to me the moment I read it:

"Another note is the innkeeper/bartender would sell mist containers for 2,500 crowns another service combating the worth of crystal energy abit. (which is now primarily used as an alchemic reagent)"

There are several problems with this...

First of all, any item that can be crafted for 100 CE or less, would be super devalued.
Secondly, people would be able to run Jelly King for half the price, which is a problem. This could do a couple things to the economy:
1) It could create a "ceiling" for CE prices, which OOO has already said they will not do.
2) It could vastly change the price of CE. It might increase it because people would have no reliance on player CE for running Jelly King anymore, so the normal player-made "Ceiling" price of CE would no longer exist. Although, it could cause it to crash (Less likely) because there is less demand.

People would most likely need *more* CE than before, because their items are leveling for half the price as usual, and they can't hold 400/800 CE in their mist tanks. Thus, CE would have no player-based ceiling, and CE would likely become very expensive because of the extra demand. The demand for better gear would compensate for the lower demand of needing it to play in the Clockworks, and players might be able to extort other players since the only thing that controls the market anymore is the price to craft items.

In short, Mist Tanks were never designed to be sold, that's why they came with Promotions, Starter Packs, and the one-time-only Tier Clearance tanks.

now that elevator passes

now that elevator passes almost make the game pay to play.
Lol@fail.
People played long before EPs came out, all they did was make the game MORE accessible for P2Ps, they didn't change the game's availability of content at all.

Other than the crap about ME, it's a pretty good idea. A pretty wee area with no real purpose, just a social gatherin' area with a bit of music and banter when you're bored of Haven (since you only ever go there for the AH) and don't feel like CWin' or PvPin'. Would have to have far less channels than Haven or it'd still always be dead though.

I think this is a good idea,

I think this is a good idea, maybe they could put the Inn in the right side of haven that seems to have been blocked by a wall. However, I think the 2500cr per mist tank idea is horrible, if everyone had the ability to spend 2500 cr to get about 6k-ish worth of energy, energy prices would become ridiculously high.

How about this? You get a

How about this? You get a mist tank that can be filled for 1 time use like a canteen.

A place where you can actually socialize that isn't focused around economics (Used to be the Bazaar, now it's the Auction House) And until something is done with Guild Hall, no one will really use them for long term stuff.

Mist Tank Container

u said Mist Tank Container for 2500cr. i actually like the idea but heres the thing. Its a container. U buy the container, rent a room and any surplus of the regenate goes to the container. EXAMPLE> i have 32 mist. i get a container for 2500. rent a room out. and after 12 hours of awesome re gen rate, any surplus goes into my container. and after container gets used. it gets destroyed.

About the mist container

the mist container was only a small suggestion I was just throwing out ideas. But to make the building have use it would need to sell some kind of something that boosted your gameplay experience! Mist energy is the primary source for a spiral knight sort of acting as stamina. So how far fetched is it that an inn a spiral knight would travel to with special mist filtered rooms would sell mist as a consumable beverage. Keep in mind the maximum ME you can hold at one time is only 100.

The only ways I could think to keep it in is perhaps raise the price or sell the ME in smaller containers perhaps for less and make a daily purchase limit.

@Canine-Vladmir
are you suggesting this container would act as a second mist container, because in that regard it might as well become a lesser form of crystal energy, although I like where your going

Will there be tavern

Will there be tavern wenches?
Joking aside, yeah, this seems like fun. It would be cool if we could have our weapons on display as well, not holding them, but sheathed or something, just to show off a little.

The "social hub" bit IS the buildings use, dontchyano?
The whole point is that it'd give people somewhere to go to meet other folks. With like 80 channels right now, the CWs bein' instanced and 3 sections of town, (not includin' ATH) you're rarely likely to actually meet new folk. An Inn, split into only very few channels all but guarantees to meet a bit of rabble for the banter, meet new folk etc.
If you NEED to have somethin' else in there just have like..

Iunno, a jukebox that lets you pay in some cr to plays tracks or somethin', or have the "band" just sittin' there playin' music.
Give people a /dance econ and let them kick around in front of the band, w/e.
All of that's just extras, but the buildin' already have a use and purpose.

A more perfect inn

I like the idea that entering the inn would be more of a social zone then anything as I intended.

  • Dark-brady is brilliant by saying this inn would and should be limited in amount as far as channels go this would allow more people to meet one another.
  • Further more I still feel like there should be some sort of mist service whether it be capsules or room refills or both, just because it is a nice idea.
  • Chairs in which to sit would be crucial as well as little tables for the chairs to be placed around

A new idea I had would be a way for players to meet up and form parties within the inn and for it to have an option to port them to the arcade or such. That way you don't have to befriend every person you see just to keep track of them for a game. (this would also require some sort of party tracking out side of the clockworks, which doesn't seem like such a big deal, because they already have a join friend option which keeps the two of you in the same channels)

Hm...

How about of pack of food? A usable of food at fight is pretty like a medic kit. And when you awaken, you feel refresh so how about some buffs? Lower energy costs?

Imagen de Ztype

Why not the buffs' timer

Why not the buffs' timer starts when you select it (like weapons slots)

Edit: Instead of mist tank vendors, have normal vendors found in the bazaar and subtowns. Also, why not just rent out different styles of rooms, with different bonuses - some more expensive than others?

Tovvok
I cant decide

Whether the buff food should become an item for use later and once u decide to use it you get the buff along with its countdown timer or if it should become an instant action item where the countdown begins immediately after the item is created

how about a spa?

i like the idea, but how about a spa instead of a room? the spa could be connected to the inn. The room could be a customizable area. each person gets their own personal room to design. like armor, it takes materials and mist to create furniture, paint, etc. the spa could have "mist" energy floating around like the steam in a spa (pun intended) :D. the containers can be used to capture that mist energy from the air, but it takes some time to fill. The containers are one-time use and should cost 4.5k.

Tovvok
the spa

It's an interesting idea but it'll need some retooling because it might make other features in the inn obsolete

The Inn ideas are AWESOME!

I love this idea, and maybe it could do for the "Spiral Empire" idea as well!

I am ok with this

...minus the Mist container idea. I would prefer if the bartender served you a buff drink which acted as a separate Vitapod or Trinket, and lasted until you died once.

All in all, +1 in most of it.

good idea but...

this is a great idea, or the core. the idea of a social place to gather,(maybe private channels to talk with friends like guild channels, or booths?) where one can discuss things with friends, or get a "drink" of mist,(maybe just 10mist per day?)but... here is the problem: SK is a family game, made so that younger kids can play it, but so that older gamers would like it too, but taverns (AKA bars), are not child-friendly places, rather places people's parents don't want them to see, and it is why there is a 21+ rule at them.

appropriateness

I don't see why an inn would be so inappropriate especially one that serves no alcohol (which as far as I'm concerned doesn't exist in spiral knights)

A name!

Every bar, pub, and inn needs a catchy name to go with it, right? something relevant to it's setting, or it's workings. Like "The Leaky Cauldron" from harry potter, or that irish place "The Broken Shillelagh" from saints row III.

I vote "The Spiral Straw"

SHUT UP AND TAKE MY CROWNS!

Seriously, I would like to see some kind of cafe there, where your knight could just sit and maybe sip a cup of coffee or something for low price, just for fun. It would give something else to do except just chase snipes while waiting guild mate come online.

Mission system

it could even be implemented into the mission system allowing for new NPC's like clockwork bounty hunters who you'd go to chat up and help on missions
