WHATis the point of the Iron Slug?

The Iron Slug; it seems to be even more useless than Valiance, and after reading the damage numbers it does, it's very disappointing...I have a magnus which I was looking forward to alchemizing into it, but it literally has nothing over any other gun.
Other than being the coolest-looking gun in THE ENTIRE GAME FOREVER is there any real purpose to it? It has a 2 shot magazine, insufficient damage for knockback capabilities, immobilizes the user when shooting, shoots slowly, and has no status effects (I think). What can this gun do again?
EDIT:
Did the patch change anything significantly about the Iron Slug? I read it, but couldn't make sense of it. If it contradicts my above statements, just tell me.

Honestly? That gun is not worth using. Fun as heck, though. Makes you feel like you're throwing some badass huge numbers around.
Tip: Turn damage numbers off when using this gun.

Correction: Neutalizer is the coolest looking gun. Period.
But seriously Iron Slug sucks. Get the Callahan, it works wonders in PvP.

It can interrupt turret attacks,
though a Polaris can do that much better.

I'd rather kill the turrets twice as fast with an Antigua/Alchemer/Polaris than interrupt their attacks.

Callahan never really stuns in the first place, but when it does it messes up T3 alpha wolvers. Really the only thing it does better than Callahan is kill gremlins.

What are you talking about? It stuns about as much as uncharged faust curses, and if you charge it, it practically guarantees stun, and at quite a far range at that!
As for gremlins, it still knocks them down generally, so it's useful on just about anything non-resistant.

Magnus line has an unsatisfying range, compared to polaris and possibly ap. Not that I remember off the top of my head if ap has longer.
As a fast shot with much power behind it, it just doesn't have that oomph or range as a sniper type gun would in SK, which was the way I've always viewed callahan and iron slug.

Last time I checked, callahan's range was about equal to most other guns. It might be a sort of graphical glitch.

The graphics of Callahan bullets is not where the shot actually ends. It's some graphical issue. So it has more range than it appears.

Agree with Demonic. I've viewed the magnus lines as snipe guns, mainly because of their high accuracy bullets especially with autotarget on. On a side note- that guardian in HoH gives a magnus recipe. It's likely the Iron Slug is to match the plate gear and sudaruska's normal damage. Personally I might decide to get both Callahan and Iron Slug, but I already own a volatile catalyzer, which personally I think ties with Supernova and Valiance damage wise, though it's set up and all can be quite tedious. But once you set up the charges and everything, each orb deal around 222 damage, so 5 charge orbs deals 1k+ damage already.
Topic of coolest gun. On my list are...
Valiance. Badass looking half-levi-blade bayonet. :3
Neutralizer. That orb focus ray thing is aweshum.
MK II (3*) Alchemers. They are just... cool.

Some weapon has to be the worst, iron slug just might as be it

It's certainly one of the weapons that will be receiving a little boost in an upcoming patch. So, Spiral-Hipster, consider it a good investment :)

Devs are buffing it?
Too mainstream.

"Awww, but then it wont be hip anymore!"
LOLZ ^-^
~Tsu

Hey nick does that include the other worthless weapons like Big Angry Bomb, Ionized Salt Bomb, and Sudaruska?

I think maybe BAB is good, and ISB needs only a touch, if at all... (Shock XD) But if you wouldn't mind explaining the Sudaruska? Perhaps this needs a different thread, which i can make if you want... :D
~Tsu

I think these swords are not as bad as everyone makes them out to be.
@Nick >_> Buffs for the weapons! Might be aweshum! (Oh yeaahhhhh thanks for keeping RSS the way I like it- part pierce and part elemental ^.^)

because sudaruska was nerfed for no reason a few months ago, and even for it's increased overall damage can't hope to compete with specialized damage swords.
That said, winmillion also needs a 5*

Oh my god a dev replied to a thread I've started. That's never happened before :D
Also, I'm very glad to know that a buff is coming for the somewhat horrendous Iron Slug.
@Nick
I have been shown who is boss.
...STILL MAKING IT THOUGH.

"A little boost" won't really mitigate the uselessness of that piece of junk. I feel like both it and the callahan need doubling the amount of damage they do. Sometimes it's fun tickling fiends with a callahan, but it's never really been a serious option.

With my shadowsun set, and a trinket, callahan does as much damage as the first swing of my FF, while keeping me away from them. I rather enjoy my callahan, and it just got a 10% buff today.

+1
Even though my only gun is an AP.
(I'm a swordsman/bomber)
Well, Perro, well put.

It's certainly one of the weapons that will be receiving a little boost in an upcoming patch. So, Spiral-Hipster, consider it a good investment :)
Yes, this is a necro, but I'm wondering if this ever ended up happening?

It hasn't happened yet.
I am still holding out before I get my Callahan.

Hasn't happened yet, although I did make a thread asking if this was still going to happen a while ago, and they said yes but that it was going slower than planned or something akin to that, so….

Making Iron Slug that has penetrating bullets makes it able to race with Callahan, or maybe just increase its damage output?

Must be hard to edit a few variables in the game code.
Guess I'm making Callahan then.

I would like to see the Iron Slug turned into a sniper rifle role, like an ICBM.

"turned into a sniper rifle role, like an ICBM."
"sniper rifle"
"ICBM"
Boy, that escalated quickly

An intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) is a ballistic missile with a long range (greater than 5,500 km or 3,500 miles[citation needed]) typically designed for nuclear weapons delivery (delivering one or more nuclear warheads). Most modern designs support multiple independently targetable reentry vehicles (MIRVs), allowing a single missile to carry several warheads, each of which can strike a different target.
Early ICBMs had limited accuracy that allowed them to be used only against the largest targets such as cities. They were seen as a "safe" basing option, one that would keep the deterrent force close to home where it would be difficult to attack. Attacks against military targets, if desired, still demanded the use of a manned bomber. Second and third generation designs dramatically improved accuracy to the point where even the smallest point targets can be successfully attacked. Similar evolution in size has allowed similar missiles to be placed on submarines, where they are known as submarine launched ballistic missiles, or SLBMs. Submarines are an even safer basing option than land-based missiles, able to move about the ocean at will. This evolution in capability has pushed the manned bomber from the front-line deterrent force in all forces but the United States and Russia, and land-based ICBMs have similarly given way largely to SLBMs.
ICBMs are differentiated by having greater range and speed than other ballistic missiles: intermediate-range ballistic missiles (IRBMs), medium-range ballistic missiles (MRBMs), short-range ballistic missiles (SRBMs)—these shorter range ballistic missiles are known collectively as theatre ballistic missiles. There is no single, standardized definition of what ranges would be categorized as intercontinental, intermediate, medium, or short. Additionally, ICBMs are generally considered to be nuclear only; although several conceptual designs of conventionally armed missiles have been considered, the launch of such a weapon would be such a threat that it would demand a nuclear response, eliminating any military value of such a weapon.

___!!!***THE ULTIMATE SNIPER RIFLE***!!!___

funny thing i noticed just now .the coolest looking weapons in this game all seem to suck.

But... i still wanted that gun since i started playing this. so i made it today and in LVL 1 on a random FSC
Using Shadowsun Set + Trinket Dmg low = Damage bonus ultra...
It does 140 damage per shot, and around 350 damage on the charge.
The gun looks EPIC that's a fact.
Its fun to use, yes!
But it cant kill stuff , it is slower then Callahan and does a very small amount of damage.
i dont regret making it but it's just for the looks on Haven. Admins you guys should make this EPIC gun usable for a normal player because a gun like this on normal damage i think it would just be amazing.
Make it shoot faster with the same reload time. make it shoot one more bullet, i do not know. just make it usable guys!
Because.. IT IS A SHAME NOT USING SUCH A BEAUTIFUL MODEL!
Edit:

Here .
Description DOES NOT FIT THE GUN. there is no Stun at all.
Basic attack, fails because enemies do not fall down and do not stop attacking with the bullets.

Shot a t3 devilite today using my Iron Slug, VH dmg vs. fiends. 75 dmg per hit... (yeah, u can lul with it, I know, lol)

Just reminding everyone how iron slug was promised a buff and never got one. This is seriously overdue.

@Nick - Anything else getting a boost ? As someone who seemed to choose all the wrong weapons and armor, this would be nice LOL XD

Jolly good show old bean, I do believe the dandy ol' iron slug is indeed long overdue for a buff, hmm? Cheerio, good chap.
~Magnicth the Impostor Impostocube

The point is, to-throw-yourself-backwards-seven-miles-and-amaze-all-of-the-monsters-around-you ^^

Fun fact: Supernova has all the damage of Iron Slug's bullets and all the interruption. It also has a 3-shot clip and does not halt your movement like Iron Slug does.
The slight knockback on the magnus line used to knock the monsters towards the player. It now knocks them away. You'll likely never notice the difference.
