Bottom line is, no, and it's not likely to happen anytime soon. Too many balancing issues involved - the devs might as well revamp the whole darn game.

You need to realize the
You need to realize the magnitude of what you're suggesting.
-If a new tier were introduced that would also mean by default that there'd have to be a new boss for everyone to not complain more than usual, which means completely new skins, levels, combat mechanics, etc.
-There would also need to be new T4 versions of every monster, which means new skins for every existing monster, which is probably more than you're thinking it is.
-It would require creating a 6* version of EVERY Sword, Gun, Bomb, Helmet, Armor, Shield, and Trinket that currently exists as a 5*, and balance them.
+Other things I'm too lazy to list.

Took me a few weeks to code up a simple unit converter. Think of how long it takes to code into an existing game and not break it. Granted, I'm no expert programmer, but I do understand how huge of an undertaking this would be.
Just because you think "its cool and UPGRADING ppl UPGRADING" doesn't mean it's truly feasible for the developers to do it. I'm all for new content, but just that. Not a new tier and having to rebalance the entire freaking game :/ Bring in (gradually) new small bits of content and I think most of the SK community will be satisfied.

You haven't been exposed to the sort of things devs do on a regular basis - ideas are nice and all, but SOMEONE has to actual go and do it; quite frankly there's a bunch of other things they should be and probably are working on that wouldn't require 6 months (at least) worth of work.
It's not feasible, it'd require a reworking of the game's architecture - I could make a huge list of what'd need to be done just to START working on 6*, let alone actually adding and designing new weapons, amours and creatures needed to fill it.
tl;dr: ain't gonna happen, the developers don't have that sort of time on their hands.

New textures, new AI, new places, new bosses, new weapons...

well IF....
there is this so called "Teir 4" and due to my OCD and commen sence there would be 2 stars per tier so it will go to 7* (since 5* and 2 more stars is 7*) would cause theses problems
DEVS: tons of coding, time consuming (thus other event would be missed out) less profitiable (i mean so much work just a few bucks as payment? (pakages))
Players: no events, and if its out CE prices (i mean if a 5* cost like a +20k (i never crafted one just my estimations)) how much does a 6*/7* cost? AND most importantly the time taken to load that much content (or maybe its just my internet connection)
but i mean more content YAY (itsagoodthing)! but one sayed: "with great power it comes with great resposibality"

Why haven't anybody mentioned the Core yet?!
Teir 4? 6stars? so unbalanced. 3 and 5 are the ideal numbers for everything, in SK and in RL. lets keep it that way.
so why not just go down to the core? i mean u can use SL codes as a building block for the core and you just gotta be good and use 5* weapons and gear.
i mean everytime im at the core, theres that chick (next time u see her, notice thats shes Dual Wielding! :D) saying their trying to reach the core....JUST REACH THE CORE ALL READY! of course, the Devs know more about the core than us, and might have the core opened to Cradle some time from today, so we can wait.....or wait for a guy like me too say the obvious!

@Canine : if u never read the recon modues (like i do) it said the core contains so much power that i could recharge the broken ship that brought us (knights) to cradle, so if we went to the core ("Teir 4") so we could replace our mist tank to a cable linking to the core to out suits =3 and we can rage craft out stuff of UVS much faster (derpherp)

I remember first reading about Spiral Knights via Three Panel soul back in 2008. That's three years in development. Now, how much more work would it be to add a new tier, or about 25% more content in this case? Another year?
