As topic says, this is official rage/complaint thread about this 'new' feature, that has been put in game out of nowhere, completly breaking the rule:

-If something is not broken, dont touch it.

Now, every time we type an emoticon its going to be replaced with a sign above our heads with an emotion and it wont be displayed in chat.
No matter if we want to type it in guild chat, trade chat or zone chat. We are forced to remain emotionless in our speech and to have a giant sign appear above our heads.

The screen has become much more crowded, when every time someone will want to type a smile in the text.

Why OOO put it in game? Did anyone asked for it? Emotions were already fine.

Please, let us at least be able to TURN IT OFF in settings with a tick box to not have auto-emotion-popup turned on

Also, not only having your text replaced by some annoying popup above your head highly annoying, but also emoticon assign to plain text emoticon is broken. The plain text emots we are typying are completly diffrent in some cases from what we want to say.

Remove this or at least let us TURN IT OFF in settings.

Anything else just put a gap between it such as :P becomes : P , hope that helps it isn't what you want but you could use it :D

Whatever, this is the kind of thing OOO will probably change back soon. It's a bit annoying, but I really don't mind for now. It's probably so easy to switch back, if enough people show their disapproval, they'll fix it. Too bad we won't see it nicely from everyone, since every update is hit with rage for tiny little details like this every time before OOO even has the chance to say "ok we'll fix it".

Put it in suggestions, try and get a bunch of support for it if you want that to change. Be warned though, asking for a change simply because you want it to be more like other MMO's you play is probably not going to gain much speed.

Back on topic: Yay! At last, I can once again respond to the inane comments of random party members with "lol" without popup text above my head.

I certainly didn't mind it at all, unlike some who found it annoying, BUT...

Saying "lol Yeah, that's crazy" (For instance), would give you the message "No such player". That was the only thing that ticked me off about it. Too bad it didn't work though, I kinda liked it honestly.

Some were good like lol -> laugh.
Typing "/g lol" Hoever didn't make you laugh on the guild chat.

Also if you want to implement an actual feature that players want, implement chat tabs and resizable chat window.
And bring back the personal color player names when chatting, those were awesome.

I think this could have been

I think this could have been a kinda good idea if done properly, as in only for animated emotes and without the emote bubble.

For instance, instead of having smilies and things like lol as straight up duplicates of the actual emote commands (because mainly, those "emote" bubbles are dumb. and noone uses them.)... For emotes that have actual PC animations like /laugh, they could instead do something like trigger the character laughing animation instead of the usual "talking" animation if a player types lol, lawl rofl etc... and not trigger the emote bubble. and only in normal chat, not for guild/tell/trade/zone chat. otherwise the player would appear to others to do the laugh animation for no reason.

I dont think there are any other emote animations that could be also used by word triggers like I mention. other than /laugh, thers what, /point, /wave, /clap and /salute? not exactly a whole lot there...

Heh, I saw this thread AFTER I made a bug thread for the things it's doing to guild chat.

My guild was just getting used to typing "fu" instead of "lol" in guild chat because of how it's acting now.

It's been fun playing with this new change, but I'm glad to see it's going to go back to normal soon. :)

It would be rather neat to see a character laugh when you type in lol. Of course, not with it deleting the entire message. Just the animation playing as the message goes through, as if one was speaking normally. I mean, it's kinda irritating to hear the system tell you there's no such player known as "that was kinda funny."

So if it was possible to have the animations activate upon certain key words, without eliminating the speech bubble with the message, that'd be awesome.
