I am sick of these lackluster updates- Spiral needs serious changes to keep players happy.

Before you read I think you should know my grammar is terrible. I think you should be able to get the gist of what I am trying to say. This is gonna be a lengthy post, so please read the whole thing before posting.

I should start off by saying that I have been very patient with 000. I try to find a positive out of each patch but there has been very little substance over the past months with updates and I about had it. This game is a year old and it looks the same as it did as it began. If they truly care about money and prolonging the lifeline of spiral knights then the game has to get better not worse. I have weather each blow they sent out way the Fatal Binding patch that sent countless players out the door. The looping patch which removed the ability to keep playing the same levels over and over, the jelly farm crown reduction, I can go on and on. I can see trying to squeeze an extra buck out of people but messing with every profitable industry is not the way to go about it. Every time something is out that gives the players a chance to make a few bucks 000 comes along and removes it or downgrades it. Why can't you let players make a few extra bucks is that against the law. Take the recent Fire Storm citadel crown reduction via mission from 11-12kcr to 7-8kcr come on now why do this? How about the Increase to uv rolling for one roll from 15kcr to 20kcr it just seems that 000 wants to make things harder rather then easier. However the greed is not what this thread is about. It's about all the necessary changes spiral needs to stop people from quitting an already small community or drawing new players in. Lets start off with a few things....

1. Binding-this simply was a shock to many players as people were no longer able to buy 5 star gear right off the bat, The crafting industry died making recipes less useful. The reason for this as stated by 000 was to stop people from reaching tier 3 so easily which I had to agree because it was too easy. That being said they lied right to our faces when they released the supply depot which allows us players to Buy 5 star items right from 000 for 3500ce. I still don't get why 000 did that. They went and undercut everybody by doing that and made 5 star items which are already a pain to sell 10x harder to sell.

Solution- Unbind prices are a dam rip off to simply get rid of gear you no longer want or need. My suggestion is you lower the prices by half on each listing. This will allow players to buy more 5 star items and not only allow player to actually afford to unbind there stuff therefor reducing scamming from people who pay unbind prices and the person runs off. Plus remove the supply depot overprice listings for gear. It cost much less to craft on your own and its undercuts countless amount of people trying to sell for just a little over unbinding prices. There is simply no point for this thing to be here does nothing for the game.

2. Guild improvements- This was already stated by Dancijen and Its practically a no brainier. Why is it so hard to improve guild hall with a few simple features such as a board of some sort. Lets make it into a place to go rather then a damn ghost town. It took you guys almost a year to implement activity logs which made it easier to boot inactive players. This is something the players and myself included want, so for cripes sake make us happy will ya.

3. Content- This is really what the game truly needs to thrive. Lets start off with the bosses. What is there is great i mean each boss is so different from the next and you really need to switch strategies for each one which makes it so fun and special. After a year of playing tho these bosses become old and lose what made them so great. You could count Seerus as a boss as well but he is only accessible to the paying players which limits the game for quite a lot of people. Missions failed to provide us with truly enough to do. I did them all in less than a week and prestige is just the same thing over and over again. There were some good moments here but you just took what you already had and just called them missions which made me lose some respect for ya. Shadow lair- At first i thought it was joke but after playing it I was really shocked at how awesome they were. The downside of the whole shadow lair thing was just how slim the picking were for gear not to mention zero stuff for gunners.

Solution- Start pumping out content this game is a year old and has zero to offer to people who have played the game for a extended amount of time.
With a few bucks you could breeze thru everything in the game in less then 3 weeks. New levels, Bosses, Missions anything just give us something to do.

4. Auction house- Could use some minor changes maybe the ability to search for specific unique variants. Other than that I have no problem with it.

5. Reduce Crafting prices- Currently I think prices are a tad high for the free to play player grinding endlessly to upgrade your gear won't keep players playing eventually they will lose interest. I think we need to give people a hand here because its too expensive if you ever truly want to get every gear in the game or just to get to T3.

6. Gear balancing- Honestly this is the biggest issue I have with the game. Why is it that only handful of gear is actually useful. I don't think I ever seen a dang iron slug used ever, I have been playing for a year too. It's time to make every single gear in the game useful so that we actually feel a need to go out and get it or make it. For god sakes you made brandish lines so much better and soon after everyone wanted brandishes do the same for other stuff as well.

7. Advertisment- This game needs to start getting the word out. Its so special and I don't want to see the game die because I believe it has potential to become one of the top MM0s. It just needs more players to get to that point not to mention more people to sell our stuff to as well as more people to play lockdown with as well. I mean at most lockdown has 30-80 players playing that's pretty sad for a MMO. I had more people in my gym class in high school then lockdown ever had playing. Guild vs Guild is empty 90% of the time. Get the word out people we need to make up for all the people we lost lets get people to play spiral. I believe more people equals a better gaming experience. No offense to anyone but I really want to see some fresh faces. I can't go to Auction house without seeing people I know which speaks to how small the game truly is. Not to say that there is anything wrong with this its nice to see people you know but its time for new people to come about.

8. Lockdown- Gonna leave this one alone its already has been talked about to the death.

9. Rare items- This game has very very very very few rare items. Its pretty sad that the only thing that is consider truly rare is a Darkfang shield which is solely for showing off more so then use. Kat Hat is no where to be found, Love trinkets are no longer rare. Blacken crest became a Vana reward. Honestly what do we have simply nothing. Make bosses drop rare gear or something for god sakes give me something to want or give me a reason to keep playing vana over and over again.

10. Core- Three words, WHERE IS IT!

****I have been playing for over a year now, and when you played it all to the death, you start talking to people and you start trading ideas. I am sick of talking about what I like to see. If one out of the ten things get address well then i think i did my job. I wouldn't be shocked to see nothing is change and 000 continues to do whatever they feel like. I hope 000 does something to keep me playing because as of right now its not looking so good, and Daiblo 3 is looking better and better each passing day. Feel free to say whatever you like my ideas are merely my own and I don't speak for the entire player base. If you believe differently then lets hear it but be nice about it lets make this thread productive rather then just another pointless thread.

The crown reduction that

The crown reduction that happened to King of Ashes was needed, it made the CE prices climb and that wasn't too good for the rest of the playerbase that aren't swimming in crowns. Now its on par when you had to go through the clockworks to get to FSC.

The rest i can agree with you.

To paraphrase Eurydice:

To paraphrase Eurydice: "There are lots of things in the works that we can't tell you about just yet."
Waiting is annoying, but patience is key with this game for now.
Also, The unveiling of the Core changes the whole game and I don't think Spiral Knights is even there yet. More info on the knights or clockworks, as seen in a side story with Arkus, are more likely to come (and probably better since the Core is like... The truth of the game).

@Pokenuevo Do you also

@Pokenuevo

Do you also believe in everything they say in TV?

Eurydice will ALWAYS say stuff like this. Eury works for OOO and Eurys job is to control this forum crowd and make us think that if we wait, wait and wait enough something will come, meanwhile spending money.

Eury will never say something like "Hey, nothing is currently in the works so we decided to put some promo to make you spent more $$"

Basically Eury says what we want to hear and what we hope for. While it may not work for individuals, most of naive people will believe it.

@Asukalan You should believe

@Asukalan

You should believe it because devs always want to add the coolest stuff (to them). As much as I have been a critic of lack of playable content in SK, I think it's more naive to think OOO isn't working on more content. The problem is that they are quite slow even for a small team, and I don't know what percentage of their time went into OCH, but it probably slowed or stopped progress on something bigger like the Core. There's so much I want to add to anything I make, but there's only so much time and resources. It's naive to think a developer doesn't have a bunch of stuff in the works. Content does not get completed linearly, nor does it all get released in parallel.

With that said, I don't think they've put their focus on the right content, and I don't know where the bottleneck is in their pipeline (programmers, artists, or a good producer?), but they need to iron that out.

@Asukalan These promos don't

@Asukalan These promos don't take away from the development much. It is safe to say SOME content is always in development . Take these "pets" for example. There are pretty much just reskins of existing items, even the merchants that sell them are reskins. These, promos, costume etc. These are to keep the art team busy while the other devs make the actual playable content. Therefore, these promos take little if any time away from content development. It's how any well run regularly updated game works.

@Holla

I especially agree with #5, I read on the forums that crafting costs were something like 1/2 of what they are now, at least for the 4* to 5* upgrade. It's the whole Laffer curve idea, if you raise taxes (or in this case, costs for amount of benefits), you receive less money, not more. Charging a shrinking player base more is less effective than lowering costs to get more people to join and pay. I'd be more likely to put more money into the game if I felt I was getting more for it.

Take a look at this:
http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/forum/8?page=2

"King Krogmo releases Lockdown! - September 14, 2011"
"Clockworks expansion - September 6, 2011" (posted September 2nd).

Claiming OOO ISN'T working on anything is like saying Lockdown (class mods, stages, UI, etc) was all made in the 2 weeks since that clockworks update was the last 'content' update until Lockdown was officially released.

So because they're releasing some of the "art content" like accessories (these mostly come down to models, maybe a little bit of coding for making them attachable to certain armors and tweaking to allow things to scale better when changing heights), other coders/testers AREN'T working on other things like weapon rebalances, or, dare I say it, level/boss content? THAT's naive thinking.

Art content vs Coding content
3d art content, while time consuming to make, is a lot more straightforward to throw into the game once there's a framework to put them in - and in our case, it's the whole "attach things to the player" accessories framework, and that's been around for a while. This means that, since accessories are all set up now, it's easier to add things their artists are making. If you look back, it seems they were planning on having new knights be able to really individualize their characters when they start out. Instead of having older, richer/more established knights miss out on this completely, they release the height mods FIRST, and THEN add it to character creation. The character creation process has been in update for some of the new patches (rescue camp is different, char creation, missions interface) - people starting out now have a completely different experience than I did starting out over a year ago. I was completely-arcade focused, while newer players are guided using Missions. You know why? Because it's honestly more important to always have games be friendly to newer players in healthy MMOG's. Snarbolax (tier 1) was released before IMF (tier 2).
If you feel shafted by the UV update, think about what it would be like if you were a newer/less-privileged player at this moment. Locking UV's on multi-rolls? That's a GOOD thing.

Weapon rebalancing? That's a different ball game and more time consuming. They won't get it completely right all the time (cringe @ Troika line charge attack update 2 versions ago), but I can guarantee that takes a bit of time to get to that point, especially since it involves content that already exists and interacts with other things, too. There's a HUGE gap of time between the times when they took weapon feedback and the actual weapon patch updates.

Full stage creation? If you want more interesting stages and enemies (while I don't have it yet, I hear Crimson Hammer was amazing fun), that takes the focus of the whole team. There was about a month between the Snarbolax and the IMF updates, and there was pretty much nothing announced between them. By the time you'll see a "sneak peek" announcement, they're probably already nearly done developing it.

In my observation, their current updates are focused towards newer players. They'll get back up to speed with the players that are further in soon enough.

@ Asuka and then replying to Holla

I said something similar yesterday, and eury's reply has convinced me otherwise. I think I downright offended her with my comment (which wasn't quite as detailed as yours) and she chastised me nicely, and made some good points. We don't know what is happening, and to assume that we do, or that they are sitting there thinking of creative ways to bilk us of our coin is, well, arrogant. I'm more inclined to wait and see a little while longer, and go from there.

5. Reduce Crafting prices- Currently I think prices are a tad high for the free to play player grinding endlessly to upgrade your gear won't keep players playing eventually they will lose interest. 6. Gear balancing- Honestly this is the biggest issue I have with the game. Why is it that only handful of gear is actually useful. ---> I'd say that quite a bit more of the gear is usefull than you think, just not in the same way. Some gear doesnt give you buffs, but offers different defense. The iron slug has a buff coming, that has already been noted by Nick, so i think it's safe to say this is being worked on, as well.

7. Advertisment- This game needs to start getting the word out. Its so special and I don't want to see the game die because I believe it has potential to become one of the top MM0s. --> This is what making OCH an add on and pay content was about. it allowed them to get more notice on steam, and i hope that this style of content and item release continues in this way. THe only change to make from it is to make that content also tradeable in game for those who use Kong, or simply SK on its own.

8. Lockdown- Gonna leave this one alone its already has been talked about to the death.

---> im going to add something here. Not enough people play T1 lockdown, but my guild and i have been playing it quite a bit, and we've had some amazingly fun matches. Blueheron, Mohandar, Tdlob and several others are mainstays in T1 LD, and man, let me tell you. SO. MUCH. FUN. Balanced to a certain point, as well. I have a guildmate, Dezmodez, who routinely breaks 3-4k damage using a heavy hatchet. People can say that proto hammer unbalances, but Dez doesnt use one, and is the best t1 striker out there. Try it, i promise, you will enjoy it.

9. Rare items- This game has very very very very few rare items. Its pretty sad that the only thing that is consider truly rare is a Darkfang shield which is solely for showing off more so then use. Make bosses drop rare gear or something for god sakes give me something to want or give me a reason to keep playing vana over and over again.

---> Difficult to implement, I think. If rare drops come from bosses, at what rate do they drop? with the amount people farm bosses, even with a tiny drop rate, eventually these items would lose their rarity.

10. Core- Three words, WHERE IS IT!

---> No. Not yet. too much to see and do before hitting the core. It was mentioned somewhere in this thread that there is so much lore to expand on before opening the core. The history of the Owlites, Arkus, Tinkinzar, the crimson order can still be followed up on etc. OCH was only the Order's weapons master, not even a guard. We can explore the Spiral Order's history, there will be rescue camp missions, all cool stuff like that. This game has massive potential, and I am hopeful that this is realized BEFORE opening the core. The Core seems very much like an end, and I don't want that, TBH.

****I have been playing for over a year now, and when you played it all to the death, you start talking to people and you start trading ideas. I am sick of talking about what I like to see. ---> I'm very nearly at one year as well, and while i see where you are going with this, I would ask patience. I don't want to see some great players (you and I have had several dealings, and I like tallking to you) leaving. Maybe take a break for a bit, but come back and check up on SK. I see good things, if we can just stick it out some more.

1. Just add the price of unbinding to the price of the item...durr. Plus, almost everyone you see has 5 star gear now.
2. With as many rants with the Guild Improving, they're obviously working on it.
3. Yeah we need a few more bosses. Not just missions..but yeah. That, I agree on.
4. For UV, might be hard to code. But the AH time should be shown rather than Very Long, Long, etc. This...is a maybe...
5. Crafting Prices are fine. Nothing more.
6. The gear balancing and reports are provided by the players obviously and the people are thinking what is a good way to balance.
7. Steam is a huge leap for that. Though I think they rather work more than to let out more advertising.
8. Lockdown. You either have the gear for it or you don't. I just play for the coins for recipes. And there's that bombing arena. There you go.
9. ...Actually I do hope there is no more rare gear.
10. The core is a lie...just like the cake.

TL;DR: Agree with 3 and somewhat 4.

The core

Honestly,

It's not that we need the core right now. It would work just as well to give us another leg in the journey to the core.

T4 dungeons could be the answer to 85% of what ails us. I have said it before and will say it again.

T4 dungeons.
Arsenal changing station at start of every floor. Very specific monster and status themes. Set the difficulty level such that you are going to be ravaged if you don't have the correct status/base defense to the floor (or uv to offset). Buff the damage received and dealt in such a way that players are greatly punished for not being equipped for the level, and likewise rewarded for having the right gear.

In this way, if you are correctly equipped then it's slightly tougher than fsc levels, but only slightly. However, due to damage modifiers, if you come in ill equipped, the levels are near impossible!!!!!!

This would serve so many pivotal functions:

#1, it's new content, new challenges, a much needed breathe of fresh air--for those of us who need it most, end game players.

#2, give us something to do as a bridge to the core while the continue to try and make it perfect for release.

#3, it would force us knights to have to greatly expand our arsenal, we'd all need armors to cover the full spectrum of damages and status affects. So it basically creates new content out of old. Suddenly, you are in desperate need of a skelly suit, or something to feel that shadow+fire hole in your arsenal- bad example, lol, I know.

#4, in light of not yet having a full compliment of armors and weapons, we will all have to team up and plan out our runs carefully to make sure as a team we are prepared to make it through a T4 run.

#5, it adds back some of the importance that uv's have lost over the last year. IMO, they should make all defensive UV's double inT4. This would allow for slightly more armor options, and encourage more uv rolling.

#6, the whole thing would be the perfect cash grab. They would be giving us exactly what we want, lots of new content, a new challenge, a reason to turn on the game, and a need for player interaction. Simultaneously, they would create the need for everyone to craft a ton more armor, and indirectly encourage the rolling of uv's more specifically, multiple max uv's. This would lead to a large portion of the player base dumping more money into the game, and being happy to do so.

#7, the reason I suggest setting T4 up this way is to avoid any thoughts of 6* weapons, as this would be the ultimate jumping the shark greedy cash grab I could imagine. So much better to create a world where you have to be perfectly equipped than to create a world where we all have to upgrade All of our gear to 6* @ 4000 ce per-pop. With those upgrades being a complete after thought.

and really, if you are on a quest to save the world, it seems fitting that you'd have to prepare and plan for it, rather than that you'd save the world while heating up an ash tail set.

@Strudul Hey it was a very long post. I might have deleted a sentence before and forgot to change the dam thing. I think I will send all my posts to someone who can edit lol.

Just wanted to make this clear about the recent patch, this thread wasn't a shot at the recent patch but rather the patches as a Whole. I just hope 000 has something big coming because I don't think I can be patient any longer. If the next update does something to improve the game then I will stay, if we get more useless crap then I am gone. If their focus is solely on unnecessary crap then the future doesn't look bright.

I stopped reading the OP after the first sentence. I already agreed with the title.

If you keep players waiting too long, they will not be happy. This makes them quit, therefore decreasing OOO income. (Cocosnake is a great example). You wouldn't want players to go dominatrix and start hacking, hm OOO?

@ flaming-Resolve There seems to be at least a good amount of agreement over some of the points. I am praying for a new T3 boss because I know how talented this Dev team is but they just need to get there priorities in order. That post you linked has some ideas i like to see in the game but 000 has a history of not really listening to there players and mostly just rolling out whatever they feel will put money in there pockets as they should since they are a business but rather the wrong way to go about it.

also,

Just as a matter of ease and fun,

I feel like they should make all bosses have a T1, T2, T3 (eventaully T4) and shadow variety. Its just more content across every level of play, with the least effort possible. [i mean this in the best way possible].

No reason for T3 end gamers not to be able to do a T3 jelly, and T3 snarby run. And save us from the tedium of another T3 Vana run.

Wat wat

I for one dig the guild hall update. I've never seen so many people just chilling out and running around like it was a playhouse.

Before you read I think you

Solution -- Quit the game <69

Uh...

NJ quoted the OP which is 7 months old (the post, not the poster) and then told the poster to quit the game.

Now let the thread die. In fact, kill it. FINISH HIM.
