What if somebody did a booger version of the Jelly Green Giant? Then it would be the Smelly Jelly Green Giant. A lard version would be the Belly Jelly Green Giant. lol, sorry for putting that image in your head.
Event: Edible Monsters - [Deadline 6/6] [Winners announced 6/11!]
Are the entries judged on accuracy, elaborate-ness, creativity, or a mix of all three? Ex. if I made a highly accurate sculpture out of bread and someone made the same monster out of radish shavings, would I be less qualified to win because it's just bread?
ETA: would making the sculpture be more edible and delicious add brownie points to my score?
So...I haven't been feeling well, but... I'm just asking this out of the blue, because I'm under the weather...but... Does already eaten food count? *vomits party confetti*
I'm off to go stick bugle chips on some calamari....
if I can make one out of cake? It's edible so would it still count?
Also, are we allowed to make a sculpture of one of the monsters categorized under "No Type"? Or is that not allowed?
Can we do a Snipe, or does it have to be from the clockworks?
If you look under the Submission Guidelines, it says to create a sculpture depicting a monster. I don't think Snipes are monsters^^.
xD
Is it just me or did I make my directions too long? 'Cause I can shorten then...
and it turned out a little messy.
What are we going to be judged on, how good it looks to eat or how neat and creative it is? :P
"For simplicity sakes, we're not going to be including drones in this event."
Cmon! >:l I posted mah shankle sculpture b4 you updated the rules! Drones are part of a family; the "No Type" family! >.>
Are we allowed to enter for more than one monster type?
From the OP: "You may enter a sculpture for each monster family, but may only win one prize. If you choose to create more than one entry, please post all of them in the same post." So you can only be greedy with your chances/fun, not prize-winnings :D
Ooh its my birthday on the 6 of June :p
I've been wanting to experiment some more in my kitchen for a while, now this gives me the perfect excuse.
Too bad I've got about as much skill at that as at beating monsters... The chocolate thing starts melting when I take the bits out of the freezer to put together, and Snarbolax was killed by the mightiest knight; my oven.
After taking the pictures, I've covered the finished thing in chocolate to hide the disgrace, now it looks like a toad! (It probably did before too, I was just too creator-blind to see it.)
But people who know me know I'm a silly sod, so I'm giggling at the failure. I don't really need to win (I'm doing fine), but I'll be damned if you don't get to suffer my attempt! :)
Thanks for the competition.
Whehee!
Can we extend the deadline to Friday? I've got finals this week and an extension would make me happy.
</selfishrequest>
My mother in law is a chef that regularly makes edible sculptures, Is it all right to ask for her help? =3
Of course, I'm not the one who can rule on that, but my two cents is that asking for advice and teaching of techniques wouldn't be cheating, but having her physically help with the building process would be :D
You should tell her to make a knight and enter, too! XD

We're looking for a combination of all 3. We'll also be looking for effort and detail.
ETA: would making the sculpture be more edible and delicious add brownie points to my score?
No, but it certainly will make discarding the sculpture when you're done more enjoyable :-p

The update clarifying that drones would not count in this event happened 2 days prior to anyone posing an entry. I'm sorry, but perhaps they'll be included in a future event. You'll want to focus on something that appears on the wiki in one of the specific monster families (there are 6 types).

For this event, we're considering Vanaduke a fiend.
OMG, some of the entries are so impressive.
I'm excited to hear what the judges have to say. I hope we get a bit more commentary than "____ wins! Yay! Here's a runner-up!"
Seriously, there's some really cool stuff in there that folks have done with strange and difficult media!
I'm totally loving the scuttlebot cake, gum-drop monsters, the fact that the pepperkat is actually on fire, and that bread howlitzer blew me away (- the love puppy icing painting looks delicious, btw.) :D
Really hoping that this contest marks more future events like this!
It was so much fun, and it's not even quite over.

Oh god...
The logical thing to do would just be to buy an Elevator Pass, but why must you tempt me so? I love challenges, especially when they're related to 3D media. If I find that I'm able to do this for less than the cost of an Elevator Pass, I will. If I don't find that I can do this for less than the cost of an Elevator Pass, I probably still will. Challenge freaking accepted (probably). Curse whoever put the "man" in
Man-a-licious~
Well, I went and did it. I worked my butt off on that thing for like 12 hours (engineering bread turned out to be somewhat difficult), but the hydrophobic properties of frosting undid all that. At least I can say I tried, I suppose.
I'm also quite impressed to see what other people have come up with. Wonder if there's going to be a ton of last-minute submissions later today...
EDIT: Forgot to mention that I found some house-brand bread that had a short expiration date, meaning it was only 49 cents for the whole loaf. In other words, I ended up not having to spend more than the cost of an Elevator Pass. Hooray.
I agree that there's a lot of nifty creativity, but what blew me are your devilites. Just amazing! I hope you win that category.
Made me less concerned that my chocolate-apple Trojan didn't work out any which way, too. Wouldn't have stood a chance anyway. :)
Lessons learned:
- Melting chocolate, you REALLY have to take care no water splashes in (from the 'water bath' the bowl swims in). Whatever shape you try to get it in will otherwise just melt really fast and fall apart at room temperature.
- Apples don't agree with being put in the freezer.
/me eating wannabe Snarbolax for breakfast. Again.
Schattentag: Despite how your project ended up from happening to sort of fall apart, the pictures until you started to paint it were downright impressive. The level of detail that you got into the workings and how the RT go together in the game was truly impressive.
Hopefully that counts for something, though there are quite a few good entries in the Construct category, so I wouldn't even guess who's the winner there.
Your paint job seemed to look really good except for what it did to the structure of your sculpture (not to mention how that last picture suddenly looked very, very "untasty.") XD
Best of luck!
-----
I was pretty proud of my devil-ives, and they were a blast to make.
Sadly, the downsides and lessons learned making them:
- Olives with licorice and candy sprinkles taste HORRIBLE. (Yes, I did eat my first prototype devilite which was never photographed.)
- I was lucky to have taken my pictures quickly; before I'd even finished the three Blarfuls the wings on my first batch were already dissolving.
- After leaving the whole works on the table for a short while while I played some levels after I finished my entry post, not only did the wings on all of them dissolve, but my Rigadoodle actually COOKED inside of the one Blarful.
- I selected my olives for shape rather than firmness. The first three were really successful, and the last three were a giant mess and took almost twice as long to make. Each one of them, no matter how careful I was crushed or squashed in some way while I was making them, you can kind of tell in the pictures because of how they all lean.
"/me eating wannabe Snarbolax for breakfast. Again." is my quote of the day.
Honestly, not that the other entries were bad, but the ones I pointed out above were just what was fresh on my mind from looking at the entry thread. I was pretty impressed with some of the ones that were baked and came out in the desired shape (or close to it) in the early entries. I know I couldn't have pulled that off. I'm a rotten baker...
I was really happy to see at least one entry made mostly of lunch meats. My first thought when I saw the contest posted was to make a zombie out of pretzel sticks and roast beef. I'm glad I didn't try that, but the ham wolver made me Oooooh and Aaaaah a bit. :D
My biggest regret for the contest: Forgetting to buy an eggplant when I was at the store to make a Pit Boss for my Devil-ives. :(
Mine have no hope of beating some of these...
@Manalicious-Knight
I bet they'll just judge you on the non-frosted version. Good luck, in my opinion yours was one of the better ones :)
What I liked:
Scuttlebot Cake
Red Roarmulus Twins
Gum-Drop monsters
and the Taffy Gremlin
So many awesome near-last-minute entries!
Way to go, guys!
Seriously, everyone who made and submitted an entry. :D
This gives me hope for this community (I mean the forum community, not the game community.)
ZOMG the jello Grimalkin! So sinister. >:-D
Honestly, the Grimalkin came out a lot better than I thought it would. I basically just looked at all the leftover jello from the Impostocube, realized I could mold another something out of it for another submission, decided a kat-like creature would best suit the jello, remembered getting eaten by Grimalkins dozens of times, and got to work making one. To my horror, I realized while working with the Impostocube that frosting doesn't stick to jello at all, so the black frosting I was going to cover the red jello with wouldn't work. I tried it anyway, and actually does manage to stay and stain the jello black a bit when rubbed in with fingers. You have no idea how silly I felt sitting there massaging frosting into an evil blob of jello, heh. The eyes were completely unintentional, when I saw them glowing I gasped and whipped out my camera and started taking pictures before anything else I did messed them up. He looks kind of sad as a result of the accidental eyes, but I suppose I would be too if I were a giant ghost kat who could only exist in darkness.
Also, I love your Devilites and the scene you made with them, you'd easily win the category if I was judging, they look amazing.
Also also, thank you Mickmane for informing me about the contest, I'm never on the forums and wouldn't have seen this otherwise. I didn't think I'd be able to make anything worthy of submitting, but I decided to try anyway and it was one of the most fun things I've done in a long time. Impostocubes are delicious, wish they weren't such rare spawns.
Anyone know when the results come in?
Thanks, Linkalee.
The impostocubes were truly great, but then the way the Grimalkin just kind of glowed from the inside... Accidental or intentional, it was perfect.
I keep checking the forum when I get back to the computer just to see if any news has been posted or a schedule for when we get to hear what the judges have to say. XD
I'm honestly less interested in results than some witty commentary of some kind. On that note, I have thought of a question to post in the Clockworks Confidential thread for Boswick...
Add another voice to the "Toastnaut's devilites were pretty darn awesome" choir.
I've really been surprised with the creative choices of material for many of the entries (as opposed to my own "ermmm, this is kinda like play-doh, I'll use that") and it's been highly interesting to see the contest unfold. Slightly amused with the amount of "last minute" entries too, many procrastinators aboard.
Definitely also hoping for good commentary in the judging, no matter the results. :)
I was waiting yesterday for 30 minutes for the update to complete, when I decided to check the twitter feed and see if there's any information about the delay. That's when I saw the post about the edible monsters contest. Wish I had more time, I would have prepared more monsters. I also didn't know which time zone the "game time" is, but it looks like I made it in.
Nice entries from everybody; I especially like the cookies and olives devilites.
Erm... Alright, does anyone know when commentary is coming out? =/
I didn't log in to SK for a while... I was grounded for 2+ weeks (kinda). Now I missed a chance to get a monster pocket D:
I keep telling myself that Coriolis and judges are taking their time preparing something really good for us to read. :P
Thank you all for the time you spent creating your entries. More than once I was sent scurrying into the kitchen because you made me hungry. I was incredibly happy with the amount of effort you all put in and how creative you were. There were entries made out of everything from old bread, to taffy, and one entry was even on fire.
Below are our winners. Prizes will be delivered sometime today or tomorrow, so keep an eye out. Congratulations!

Congrats to all the winners! I had fun, hope to see another event like this in the future :D
Oh! Thank you. ^.^ And congratulations to all of the winners ... there were a lot of wonderful entries from all the participants.
(I still can't bear to eat my mender ... I've been defending him from my toddler, even though he's flat)
Woo! Gratzes to the other winners. :D
Also, uhm...
Okay, so, not that I complain about winning, because -waaaay- happy about that, but... Since when is a silkwing a beast? And how did it beat my wolver at being a win-worthy beast? :o

Oh sorry about that, I just copy/pasted the wrong link. Fixed!
Schattentag gives thanks.
Congratulations to everyone! I really mean everyone, not just the people who won - taking up and completing the challenge of creating an edible monster is a feat in itself (and I know it may have been quite frustrating, trust me), so pats on the back all around.
EDIT:
I am slow at posting.
Congratulations to everyone who entered, making an edible sculpture was amazing and I hope everyone had as much fun as I did. I can't believe I won, I've never won anything in my entire life. There has to be a mistake somewhere, heh. Oh well, that Love Puppy has a good home with me, I still can't bring myself to kill them and always return to Haven if I see one during a run.
Good job to Pballs, as well, making something edible that was on fire, I thought I'd lost for sure compared to that epicness. Oh well, you can continue crushing me in Lockdown, heh.
Congratulations Pballs & Fdizzle! Two of my dear friends.
Congratulations all winners, participants, and hosts. I like forum comps.
Fun stuff.
Thanks for the compliments Link :)
I would love to see you in lockdown some more ;)
Plus, please post more competitions like this, I love creativity and I really feel like this benefits activity as well...well done to all participants (not just the winners) and thanks for the opportunity Cronus!
Brb, getting something to eat.
K, now I'm back. Congratulations to the winners! Did a good job and I thoroughly enjoyed looking at what you made.
Prizes have now been delivered to the winners. If you're a winner and there's a problem with your prize delivery, please file a request in game and ask for the GM to leave the request for me. Congratulations again!
