I hear it's no bed of roses, but I think I would like to be a Game Master. Before you stop reading there, hear me out. :P

I've played nearly every day since the Steam Christmas promotion that introduced me to this wonderful game, so I have a fair bit of knowledge of the game. I've been a Guild Master of a small guild for a while now, so I have some experience resolving disputes, and I like to think I possess some of the attributes doubtlessly required of a Game Master, such as maintaining a cheerful demeanor, patience, and restraint. (Also, I'm over 18)

The Wiki states that other things to consider include:

- The applicant's disciplinary history in Spiral Knights

I have none. At least if I do, no one has bothered to tell me about it. >.> I try to remain courteous in all situations. Including (and perhaps especially) while losing dreadfully in the coliseum. :P

- Knowledge of Spiral Knights' features and community

I like to think there's few features I don't know about, but if I didn't know about them, I wouldn't know that I didn't know...
I'm not sure how to measure knowledge of the community, but I trade and help run a guild with no problems, and I've been around long enough to recognize random knights in Haven.

- Communication skills

Well, I guess you can decide what you think of my communication skills after you finish reading this. :P

However, the Wiki also sees fit to crush my hopes and dreams by stating, in bold, that "Three Rings is not currently taking applications for new Game Masters."

When might Three Rings resume accepting applicants?

Even if there was an opening...

Wasn't there another requirement that wasn't stated in the Wiki? I believe it was... "At least 2 years of experience" not in Spiral Knights but a previous job. At lot of people seem to be also missing that everyone meets those requirements stated on the wiki and this is an actual job it's not just sitting at home. (few exceptions apply) You have to get up everyday and go down to your office.

I don't see that requirement... Also, I realize it's an actual job. I happen to be in need of an actual job, heheh.

As for sitting at home, seeing as the job appears to mostly be handled remotely (forum moderating, handling support tickets, saving knights in distress), I really don't see what difference it makes where you do it from. Obviously accountability, but I'd imagine Game Masters would be checked up on periodically to ensure that they're actually working. Nevertheless, if it's an office job, it can't hurt to ask where the office is, can it? If I would be required to be states away from where I am, every day, that would fairly well settle that. :P

In all seriousness, though (and keep in mind that this is my experience as an employee and former job applicant, not as The Person In Charge Of Hiring), we hire new GMs when the demand outstrips the supply. In the past (including Three Rings's other games, since SK's not been around nearly as long as, say, Puzzle Pirates), hirings have tended to coincide with staff leaving for whatever reason, though there have several times been more employees hired than have left - in Puzzle Pirates, if I remember right, Cronus, Hera, Gaea and Galene were hired shortly after two OMs left, so the total number increased by two. The best way to get Three Rings to be hiring is to make the games so popular that current staff can't meet support requirements*.

Also, as I've said elsewhere, there isn't a central office for GMs, though I imagine if we happened to be in San Francisco and internetless we'd be allowed to crash on the tentacle couch and mooch off the HQ wifi. ;)

TL;DR: We don't have a set date when we'll be hiring, it's entirely dictated by circumstance. It's good to know there'll be applicants out there, though!

*Attempting to get current GMs fired will result in dead snipes being sent to your mailbox. Possibly impaled on stakes. Muahahahahaha.

So yeah, many of us could be GMs or such but it takes more than you think and a spark to be one of the amazing people composing our GM team.

I'm kinda wondering if all GMs support all OOO games, or just select ones. If it's all games, you'd be more likely to get hired if you played their other games too.

As for the work requirement, I doubt that's strictly enforced. All jobs have that requirement, and if they always enforced it, no one would be able to ever get into the work force. You just need to look like you can actually do the job.

Why not have Three Rings hire an additional Level Designer or two and become one on the side, if you want? The more Level Designers they'll have, the more level maps will be made in little time. How do you like that thought?

No way for forum moderators. You know why? Do do so they would have to improve forum script, implement new features (that are alread in all civilised forums scripts). Its totally impossible. This forum script + lack of interest of OOO to support forum and sk webpage it will likely never happen.

@Saphykun Very good advice. I hadn't considered anything else yet because my skills in those regards are rather rudimentary, and the position of Game Master seems like it would be most flexible in terms of location.

Well, it seems I've more motivation to acquire a better understanding of what happens under the hood of our technological world.

Nobody supports all of our games (except in the metaphorical "Go Three Rings!" sense), but there are several people who support two. I don't think anyone does three that I can think of.

Hyperion, I support this game, because it's great. Did you mean, "all of our games at once"? Don't worry. They've got so much working games on their hands, they have little time to catch up to support all.

As for you, Johnthegreenguy, it doesn't matter if you're afraid or not. You can overcome your fear if you face it head on like a brave hero. Remember that.

Also, Fallconn, calling themselves "One Ring" or "Two Rings" won't work. They're called "Three Rings" and they're staying with it. Calling themselves those just doesn't make any sense. No sense at all. It's true.
