I really feel that this is a great idea, seems plausible on both android and preferrably on iOS (only since I own an iPod 4G). Although I have no solid ideas in terms of levels, etc. I do have some suggestion on what it REALLY should have.

- Sharp, tight, precise controls (movement is important in SK)
- Ways to obtain rewards in the PC version
- Make it cost money to purchase the app, rather than implimenting energy

I think that using the same levels as the PC version would suffice, but cross-platform with the PC is not a good idea as mobile players will have severe disadvantages.

Tell me what you guys think!

EDIT: If anyone posts good ideas I'll add them to the original post!

So.. not a port, but an entire new game?

Well...

A port would suffice, and would be fun as heck, but an entire new game with very similar gameplay would be even cooler, assuming they had a town with all the functionalities of haven, a storyline, and an arcade (guilds would be cool too).

It takes time...

Well... I must say it's a brilliant idea but since it takes time to code it, make changes to the controls and all that jazz and they are STILL working on the
PC version it might take a year at the least. 5 at the most

...

Also If it was an entire new game that means new items, and that means no crossover rewards.
But if it WAS a port as you kindly point out the mobile players would suffer horribly.
And besides, we don't want spiral knights to be mobile dominated (dominated by players with extreme disadvantages).

Sorry...

So its not a port but a new Spiral Knights game with rewards for the PC? Nope. Also SK runs on java, so if it is a port, also nope, as iOS doesn't support java.

You guys arent thinking enough about this...

@Toxicblade
It's not completely out of the question to make a new game in Objective-C now is it? They can also just port it to android which does support java.

@Fropps
Just because it has new items, doesn't mean you can't have rewards for PC. Plenty of games like Assassin's Creed and Dragon Age have made little spinoff games with almost nothing in common with the actual franchise, yet have implemented rewards for those larger games in the small spinoffs. OOO could do this by simply adding specific PC rewards for each mission (items, crowns, etc.) along with the rewards on the mobile game.

Three Rings is a small

Three Rings is a small studio, and they seem to have plenty on their plate supporting their current projects.

Completely rewriting the whole game seems way beyond what's practical for an entity that can't get around to fixing whatever the heck makes Gremlins so often just decide to stand in a corner and wait for us to slaughter them, or implementing some kind of system to accept their surrender or whatever...

As for porting to what mobile platforms will support it, remember that they are much less powerful than contemporary notebooks. I've seen software for them newfangled phone-PCs that has me confident that something like SK would be theoretically possible, but probably not in java on today's hardware.

A spin-off game would be neato, though. I rather like the idea of distinctly different gameplay but synched inventory; each item in one game has a counterpart in the other, and your character exists in both games with one shared inventory, but they play much differently. For example, maybe the mobile game could be a turn-based tactical game or third-person platformer or even side-scrolling "Metroidvania" type game. It's too bad that's probably way beyond Three Rings' reach in the near future and that kind of synchronisation between the games might be awkward with a third party, to say nothing of the weird things the platform owners might demand. (though I really haven't been following the politics of that nonsense)

I wonder if an Auction House and chat client for SK would be practical, though...

edit: I have exactly zero experience with online games for mobile platforms. What's the latency like?

Yeah, because there are no

Yeah, because there are no more important things to do in game than making some silly mobile app. People are so sick nowadays, in future they wont be able to take a s*** without mobile app for it.

I'm a Twitter [censored]!

I actually don't have a smartphone, myself, nor do I use any of the "social networking" sites. I guess it's my turn to be old-fashioned, lol.

...as you can tell, by my use of the archaic "lol" rather than the more modern "\o/" there. :D

Why do we use the verb, "take?" Isn't that backwards? Shouldn't we refer to it as _giving_ instead? I don't expect our expressions to make perfect sense, but sooo many of them are exactly bass ackwards...
