Over the past few weeks, possibly months (I don't know) I've been working on releasing my first ever Spiral Knights Album (for free) featuring some of your favourite Spiral Knights music re-composed, remixed and remastered by me, Takendown!

So if you're interested in hearing what's on here, then please feel free to (freely) download this album right now (via MediaFire)!

Tracklist:

#1 Storming the Fortress (Castle Action)
#2 Lucky Knight (Treasure Vault)
#3 Mettle of a Gremlin (Gremlin Theme)
#4 Spiral Knights Main Theme (with a Legend of Zelda inspired twist)

#6 Lucky Knight Recomposed! (Treasure Vault)
#7 Peace In Haven (Custom-created Music by Takendown)
#8 Sky Islands Skirmish
[Bonus Track] Unlucky Night

[Covers by the wonderful Tevokkia!]

The compressed Zip also contains Screenshots and other good stuff of what the songs look like within Linux MultiMedia Studio!

Thank you for your time!

Update: My album with Tevokkia's incredibly amazing artwork has been featured on Spiral Knight's Facebook with spectacular feedback from Facebook users! I'd like to thank everyone, especially Tevokkia, Kellnox and others for the endless amount of support! I'd also like to say a BIG thank you to the listeners and downloaders of this album! Looks like we might be seeing a Vol.2 after all! ^^

Some Facebook feedback:

"This... is one of the most pleasant albums I have had the chance to listen to.... Thanks Takendown!" - Eric Sellers

"So... the Spiral Knights fans have as much talent as the developers? Me gusta." - Vincent Angelo Sandonato

"This realy reminds me of the music youd hear from a handheld Zelda game like Orical of Ages or somehitng. Very well done." - Brendan D

Nice work!

Thanks for sharing these! I enjoyed listening to them. I like the toned down version of castle, it's a lot easier on the ears than the original. I also liked the added trills in the main theme - were those hand-composed or simply part of the instrument itself?

You've put a lot of time and energy into it, and I hope you've learned a bit in the process.

I especially enjoyed the original composition. You should release an album full of those next time.

Best of luck!

ooh, shiny music

I am a fan of 2, 3 and 6 especially.

@Tevokkia - Thanks! Couldn't have done it without your magnificent art!

@Kellnox - Aha, thanks for the support Kellnox!

@Zeddy - Yeah, I've kinda kept that a secret to those outside of Steam. But the truth is out! I've been discovered!

@Listener - Loving the name. It's totally relevant to this thread! - Thanks for the kind words and the comments on these compositions. Castle Action was composed when I knew little about the prorgam I was using to compose them with (LMMS). This would explain why the piece lacked any backing instruments and a supporting beat. Like I've mentioned in the text file, I've improved and learnt more about LMMS as I continued to compose. If you take Lucky Knight and Lucky Knight Recomposed, you'll see just how much I've improved with the program!

The trills you heard in the Main Theme and We Are Stranded (Crash Site - I decided to name it that since this wasn't released in your CD so I had to come up with a name) weren't original instruments found in LMMS. I had to create them from scratch using various presets and visual styles. Wasn't easy, but I got there in the end!

Depending on how this one does, I may release a Vol.2 featuring more recent songs you've composed that some may enjoy including Firestorm Citadel's Battle (though not recent), Lockdown, Operation Crimson Hammer and possibly the new Slime Theme (+ Many others). I released this album just to share what I've been doing recently (while providing a legitimate reason for why I've been away from Spiral Knights).

/feels honored to get a reply from Mr. Listene-- Er... Mack himself. The great composer of SK music!

@Aureate - Shiny music indeed! Glad to hear you like (at least) some of what I've done with the music! And yes, my IGN is Takendown.

Thanks for the replies!

Just a heads up, the Album has now reached over 100 downloads already!

Thanks a lot!

Takendown's picture

@Windsickle - Thank you! Unlucky Night is just a bonus - for several reasons. The main reason that this track was originally intended as a 'test' to see if I can take the happy, cheerful and mood-lifting Treasure Vault and completely remix it. That is, if you read the .rtf file by the name of Information, thank you and FAQ, I include what Unlucky Night is and why it's there. It's just there as an extra just to support an idea me and a guildie had come up with a while ago.

@Trabias - Woops! Double post! Surely that was an accident, right? Either that or your excitement resulted in you double posting to demonstrate just how excited you are! ;)
Thanks for downloading and transferring it to your mobile device! I hope you enjoy!

@Aplauses - Most of them except Sky Islands Skirmish are on my YouTube Channel, but the audio quality isn't as great sounding as the ones on the Album. The download is worth it! But, if you don't care for quality, most can be found there. Feel free to Subscribe too - I'll be posting new compositions on there.

Nice job

I like the remixes, particularly Unlucky Night. That one was interesting.

My only disappointment is that they are not loops, so I can't play them over and over again. :<

this is a really nice album! outstanding!
would be really awesome to hear these song in the actual Spiral knights game too!

@Merethif - Thank you for the awesome feedback Merethif! Who knows? Gloaming Wildwoods is definitely on my list while I've already started Blast Network. I think I'll struggle with Blast Network though! Vol. 2 will feature more of my compositions for Spiral Knights music too!

@Owaoforum - I'm glad you like the remixes! Unlucky Night is in no doubt weird, but it's more of an experiment with my compositional skills. - Maybe one day I'll re-bounce down the tracks to be looped so you can loop 'em over and over again!

@Kr-In - Thanks a lot! I doubt these remixes are good enough to appear in-game, but hey, who knows? ;)

Also, I'm going to need some requests on what you'd like to see in Vol.2! I already have a few lined up but I'm going to need more

What would you like to see on there?

Y u no sell me your Cheese!?!?!?!

Mother of Dog. Sky Island Skirmish never fails to bring a smile to my face. As soon as I heard it start I instantly recognized it was a Sky Island theme (I really love the themes for these levels) and then you made it sound maybe not more fantastic, but it definitely was up to par with the original.
Of course I enjoyed the other remixes too, you did an excellent job in my opinion and I would love to hear more in the future if you ever decide to do more :P

@Tevokkia - And I thank you in advance for doing so! <3

@Weegeeftws - Sky Islands Skirmish was actually the last composition I got to! I'm glad I remade it. I'm also glad that it tickled your fancy! No doubt that Harry Mack's compositions, Sky Islands especially, brings a smile to all of our happy faces.

You'll be happy to know that I do plan on releasing a second album with more compositions of my own and more recomposed Spiral Knights Tracks. The Album's supposed to be longer than SK:R! since it only featured a short list of tracks.

I can't help but think of Baby Luigi when I read the "Weegee" part of your name. Is that where it came from?

Weegeeftws's picture
Weegeeftws
Y u no sell me your Cheese!?!?!?!

Well I shall look forward to it then! I guess I'll also put away the Cheese I had ready to come after... you... with.... *cough*

And yes that is one inspiration (yeah I know a couple fancy words!) for my username although not really the one which made me go "right /insertgenericusernamehere/ you gotta make a user name involving Luigi somehow!" I was spurred into making this username by a "Let's Play" where the guy who was using Luigi kept dying a lot and was shouting "Weegee!" over and over again. I thought it was hilarious. Also yes, I do prefer Luigi over Mario, cause Luigi has more depth as a character.... Sort of. That's where the FTW came from. I added an s for some reason.... dunno why.... /shrug

Anyway I doubt we need to get into my username's origins, we're here to praise your talents and great ones at that! ^^
I really do look forward to hearing more. Keep up the good work 8D

@Weegeeftws - Ahaha! Thanks for telling me the origins of your name, Weegee! Looking foward to Vol.2 will pay off eventually when I release it!

@Autofire - That's awesome to know that my recreations and compositions are deemed as inspirational! Thank you!

@Mohandar - Custom SK BGM? Really? That's awesome! -- Ponyo On The Cliff? Isn't that a movie by Studio Ghibli? Can't say I hear what you're talking about. Thanks for your comment!

I'd say "Mettle Of A Gremlin" is my favorite.

Good job on the remixes.
We need more people like you on SK. People using their talents for SK related stuff.

Anyway, Keep up the good work!

P.S.S "Unlucky Night" gives me the chills!

@Tevokkia - Yours too?! How would you like to see this make a return as "Recomposed!" in Vol.2? The track was composed when I was just getting to learn and know LMMS. Would be interesting to see what I could do with it now.

What are your thoughts? ^^

Haha, well, it IS the one you recomposed at my request when you first put up your thread asking for ideas months and months ago, so I have a soft spot for it. I would love to see it recomposed in Vol. 2, though. ^.^

Takendown's picture
Takendown

Well, Tev, it's a song that took me a century to recreate so it may be a bit difficult to experiment with the track again. Storming The Fortress Recomposed! will be making an appearence though. That was the track that started off my recomposing of Spiral Knights Music. It deserves a recomposition like Treasure Vault (Lucky Night Recomposed!) did!

Vol.2 will be larger too, at least that's what I'm aiming for in terms of no. of tracks. Hoping to reach over 12 tracks plus bonuses featuring more custom music for Spiral Knights like the new Shock Theme I created while featuring existing songs Recomposed! or a completely new song (Operation Crimson Hammer, Slime Theme etc.)

It's exciting!

@Weedalot - Thank you for downloading!

@Lord-Raedon - I agree! I remember hearing a few themes in the Spiral Knights Launch trailer that tickled my fancy, and I guess we have Mr. Mack to thank for that!

Good tunes, good tunes!

Some really good stuff you got going here, I must say.
Spi Kni has some good sounds throughout the game (and some that gets plain annoying after a while; "Dingdongdingdingdingdongding"), and I liked most of it so I plucked it out of the game files and added it to my music player on the computer (which is where your remixes are too now, haha). But I still feel that it is just 'background' music, you know? It's rather mellow some of it (the original sounds, that is).

I feel that you sorta took it and lifted it up and out of that "background-song-dust" and put some really, really nice touches to it, making it more like normal, standalone songs. Which is very, very nice. All in all you did a very good job on this I think, and it is something that makes it an enjoyment to listen to the songs, to sorta get to hear what you did where, and get surprises along the way throughout the songs.

One thing I'd like to see(hear) though, is if you can pick it up and out of that 'background'-feel even more! That would really be something. Putting in more of your own tunes as the main sound throughout the song (without losing the touch of the original song of course), and making it mesh good. Mix it up a bit more maybe.

Other than that, I'd just like to say that I'm looking forward for more, and that I think you did a teriffic job! ^^

Takendown's picture
Takendown

@Weedalot - Thank you in advance for the positive feedback! I'd like to agree with you on the fact that I lifted the songs and brought them out of the background, making them the main layer of Spiral Knights! That's what I intended on doing and I'm glad you picked up on that! You've actually inspired me with your ideas; I was running out on ideas for Vol.2 and you refilled my head with inspiration on that! Great idea on me adding in my own composition that goes with the song. I hadn't thought of that before! I'll sure be mixing it up even more in Vol.2! Thanks for that!

Not even I, the composer of Vol.2, will know what it has to offer! Stay tuned!
