More information on the upcoming Guild Hall update (discussion)

I've posted a new announcement about the upcoming Guild Hall update.
http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/64070
Feel free to discuss!

But the real question is: can I flip that table?
On topic: Nice to see you are still working on the Guild Hall update. I'll be waiting for more info, specifically on that "other special building that we'll detail in the future."

But gotta spend all my time doing arts for school.

This sounds absolutely amazing! Not only does this add some great features, but it's a much-needed crown sink!

This is the update I have been looking forward to. It would definitely help remedy the various problems of guild management in SK.
Would you consider making the Guild Treasury into a Guild Bank? i.e. let GMs set interest rate on loans, etc. One problem we identified very early on is that we like to loan CE to members, so they can unbind items, sell them and then repay the loan later. It turns out this is hard to manage because people would defer their payment on loans (luckily no default) just like in real life. It would be interesting if we could have a Paypal-like service inside SK.
Any ETA of guild update on test server?

Now THIS is good at keeping us informed. Did you decide to do this after the survey? This is great! Now we know some of the cool features being added, but you kept a few secret to surprise us with. Surprise are great, it's just not fun when EVERYTHING is a surprise, so this is good.

THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKIN' BOUT.
I can tell this is gonna be an excellent crownsink. Plus, the possibilities "guild related features" bring to mind... Guild PvP? Or even massive raids with 10 members? (Gonna have to really turn up that Blast Processing first, but the awesome factor counters that.)
Glad to see you got the ideas- can't wait to see 'em applied!

@Nick
" Funds in the guild treasury are automatically withdrawn regularly to pay guild hall upkeep."
Question 1:
Is there going to be a fee associated with the Base Level Guild Hall?
Currently there is no fee associated with a Guild other than the CE cost to set it up.
There are a number of dormant players / guilds and if there is a CR upkeep on the basic GH, those players will lose their GH.
This was also not a requirement for anyone who established a guild prior to this change.
Question 2:
What happens if your guild can't afford GH upkeep or you elect not to pay it?

Thank goodness for giant crown sink! ^.^
I'm very excited for the design opportunities.

Approve.
A little slow, but better late than never; except when it comes to doing illegal drugs. Never do those.

Jacobey -
Currently we do not plan on having the base GH require upkeep, but without expanding it, a guild is really missing out!
If a guild misses a payment on upkeep their GH will revert to the base hall, but everything their layout before their missed payment will be preserved, including anything in their treasury. Once their upkeep is paid, it reverts to the previous state.
It's worth noting though that if a guild has missed their payment for a very long period of time, all guild assets will be liquidated and the GH will revert to the base hall.

Hey nick, what features would require a Guild Master? Currently, our GM has been absent for quite a long time, so we're rather curious, most especially with the Command Console.

Hi Nick, how does this work?
'Guild Storage' is like a shared arsenal amongst all guild members. Items can be deposited and withdrawn freely. There are separate storages for members+ and officers+.
Are deposits and withdrawals permanent? Is there a time limit on how long you can check something out?
Oh boy... Tell me, is it possible to lose progress if you don't keep up with the upkeep? Because I can guarantee that most people won't bother then. NO ONE likes buying into a rolling cost just to KEEP what you already have, and it's a horribly manipulative way to force people to keep paying. It's disgusting. Now, if the guild hall goes into a visual state of disrepair and stays there until paid off, at least people could slowly work up and not LOSE what they've already paid for. Sure, it'll look like crap, but better than it vanishing.
Mind you, I'm assuming that these guild costs are going to be rather exorbitant at the higher end too, on the order of millions of cr, since the cost is supposed to be split among the members. If it's a petty cost, like trinket slots... Well, no need to worry then.
Then again, why do I care? I make it a point to be guildless.

I must say, I'm proud of you guys. You're actually starting to fix your game slightly, bit by bit.
A few things though, Nick, kinda regarding the "More to Come."
I didn't 100% read this or the other thread, just got the idea of it all, but will there be:
Bulletin board and such?
A "Mail-To-All-Guild Members" system?
All I can think of for now. Again, Kudos to you OOO, as it was stated above, better late then never. This did take you guys quite a long time to work on, but you guys got it done in the end, and I, and many other players are happy and thrilled.

Yes, this is great.
But I'm wondering (that other guy is too), what features are available to GMs only? If any rank could move furniture and pay for stuff with the treasury, everything would fall into utter chaos.

I didn't understand the "upkeep" system, we will need to pay a certain amount of crowns every day for rooms or other extra options?

What will happen to the guild assets when a guild disbands? Lost forever with no way to recuperate them?
And what about if a guild doesn't particularly like one rooms or a set of furniture or whatever and tries to sell it back: are they screwed or can it be traded/sold?
And on the upkeep cost: just how long does it take for a guild hall to revert completely to base after not paying the upkeep? Months, days, weeks or years?
On the shared arsenal: can only unbound items be placed or can bound items be shared around?

I AM GOING TO DROWN YOU IN MONEY. AND I SEERUSLY MEAN IT.
This has to be the best thing ever, but will the expansions cost crowns? We need a new crownsink.

This definitely sounds interesting! From an economic standpoint, I like the idea of a new crownsink to provide new endgame goals. But:
1. Will the guild hall upkeep costs depend on active guild size? Will tight-knit or lightly active guilds be able to access nice guild features without having to double their numbers with new recruits? (EDIT: hmm, apparently there will be different tiers of options based on guild size. Hopefully all the functional stuff is available to small guilds)
2. Will new rooms/ furniture cost energy as well as crowns? Hopefully the initial purchase prices will offer meaningful long-term crown sinks, which are missing from the current end game.
3. Will "liquidated" guild halls also liquidate furniture? That's a big concern if furniture/ upgrades carry a real-money cost. By contrast, Y!PP (another OOO game) handles dusted shops by moving furniture assets (which cost real-money) to storage when the building is dusted.

"'Guild Storage' is like a shared arsenal amongst all guild members. Items can be deposited and withdrawn freely. There are separate storages for members+ and officers+."
By items do you mean mats? Or does this include bound weapons and armors and accessories? IMO it would be pretty unfair if guilds can deposit their bound weapons and armors and share them amongst themselves. I hope thats not what you are implying :/
Please let us know, me and many other of my online friends are a bit concerned? Thanks in advance for your response Nick.

Thank you Nick! This will truly be an excellent update! Yay!

Actual Guild Hall features! Integrating more stuff into Haven! A legitimate crown sink! Woohoo!

Yay cant wait wonder which guilds will have all the nice things lol

Neat. Jen will probably pee her pants when she reads this. That's a win in my books.

IMMA DONATE ALL MY CE TO THE FIRST BLOOD GUILD HALL FUND LOL
not much, just 10 k ce :P

FINALLLY WOOT thank god was starting to think it was gonna become a myth like the core. Thank YOU! Gonna have a lot of fun with this update when it comes out. Sounds great can't wait to start designing

Now, this looks fun...
1) Accessorize my Character. ☑
2) Accessorize the Guild Hall. MWAHAHAHA Soon to be ☑☑☑☑☑☑
I'm excited to pay rent xD

I'm really excited for this even though my guild is pretty much entirely dead. ;w;

Well, this looks like a basic system, not bad, though this "upkeep cost" worries me. A lot. Also not specified as crowns or CE, so I have this sinking feeling. < Scrap that, it says in crowns. I am leaving my fail there though.
Also, what goods could be shared if everything is bound? I can't see it more than as a tool to share newbies ragecrafting leftovers without having to send mails. Still, "separate storages" if done well, could make me drop those 1* equipments there that I don't use there and clean up a little my menu. Though would they be safe there, or also "shared" with other officers?
The only thing really worth that may seem coming are the "merchants" and "services" thingy. I really hope they aren't just your usual weapon vendor or supply depot with overinflated prices, and it is worth using them. Things like buffs, mist tanks < > crowns, etc would be awesome.
I also don't see useful decorating, though I am one of those not-accesorized Knights that prefers practical things and field work than polishing your armor.
Also I don't see any interaction of guild stats with the quality of unlockable services etc for our guild. You should try to implement that so guild wars are something to look forward to, being in PvP or top PvE explorers - though well, elevator passes etc... sort of make them P2W. Maybe a maximum contribution per member a day could work to balance?
If this is something to patch the economy issue, it will be a temporary patch like everything else if is something this "barebones". This may not as big as people are thinking... maybe I am being pessimistic? Sorry if I am throwing down the parade, this just looks very basic to me.

please rethink the idea of maxed out guildhalls allowing for special "buffs"
That would be the worst thing I could ever think of. If that happened I imagine you'd see a huge exodus of players quitting. I imagine i'd be one of them, too. That goes past the line of Pay 2 get Ahead and Pay 2 Stay even. If you have to upgrade your guild hall to Level X (by paying 100,000+ per period) to get say, weapon synergy, then the game suddenly does become a pay to play game.
This would be the worst possible move OOO could make.

They would be just buffs, maybe you could separate PvE buffs and PvP buffs, etc. Implemented right, it would make joining a guild something desired more than just "a group of people to talk to and join parties".
If the "top" players things wouldn't work, the "daily contribution with a max per member" thing could still work, this way every guild could enjoy high quality services, shops etc. It would still call for PvP activity for certain ones maybe, and maybe just participating would be enough.
I don't really see what the problem would be, made right. Still, it is just an idea to make it more than just "decorate, store, and maybe a normal+ shop" basic services that 99% MMOs have.

;___; if only severage was here...
on topic: yay!!!!!!!!

Only *rent* has a crown value. I wonder if we'll have wooden lockboxes and keys for furniture.

ALL THE THINGS CAN BE SUMMED UP IN ONE WORD SAID IN A CANADIAN WAY: Eh.

I hope one of the special features will be a board for officers/GMs to leave messages on. That would be very helpful.

"wooden lockboxes and keys for furniture."
.... PLEASE GOD NO

"wooden lockboxes and keys for furniture"
Dont you DARE give them ideas. Finally, a crown sink! Maybe this will put down the ce prices.

I hope we can have usable billiard tables, dart boards and a computer that we can play SK on. A swimming pool would be nice too.

Not only is this a crown sink, but it sounds like it's going to be an ongoing monthly crown sink. Not only should this help keep the value of of crowns high, (which should help keep the price of CE low,) it should help it do so over a longer period of time.
This sounds like just what this game needed -- for a couple different reasons!

FINALLY SOME NEWSSS. And they look awesome.
See it isn't so hard to give some news to the community, you guys should do more threads like that instead of keeping us in the dark for months.

+1. A MOTD message board would be nice.
Test server already has construction workers working on east side of Haven and knights moving boxes at Bazaar. How exciting!

Will guild halls be expandable only in a "plane" fashion, or will there be stairs and levels and such?

Answering a few more questions here:
- You cannot deposit your bound items into Guild Storage. It is just like 'trading' with another player in that regard. There is no concept of 'rentals' and the like. If you deposit something, it's up for grabs. If you take something, it's yours. Guild Storage is just a more convenient way to give up or get extra items from your guild.
- We've got plans for a something that will keep guilds more up to date on guild news within the guild hall, but it probably won't be part of the initial update.
- If a guild disbands its assets go with it. This is because the assets are owned by the guild, not any individual players within the guild (once given to the Guild Treasury). We're doing this to greatly simplify ownership of guild assets and remove all drama of who owns what and who is in a position to take their ball and go home. We want guilds to stay together.
- Guild upkeep is tied directly to expansions, so the bigger your guild hall (and thus the more features, etc. you have) the more upkeep you will owe.
- Purchasing featured rooms costs crowns, but they function like any other 'ticket' item, like accessories- if removed, they must be repurchased.
- There will likely be multiple avenues by which a player and guild could acquire furnishings. Players that acquire furnishings themselves will have the option to deposit them into their own Guild Treasury, sell them on the auction house, etc. We anticipate some players will make a decent living acquiring rare furnishings and selling them to big guilds with deep pockets.
- Once expanded, guild halls have multiple floors and get 'taller.'

We can sit on chairs. i think thats what you meant right?
question: other part of town: well only see our guild hall right? so that side will be solo or full of guild members?
