When I first heard the word "snipedgeons" I assumed it also meant that the snipes were delivering my mail now. They aren't. This is an atrocity. It would be easy to make the same landing/taking off animations cause snipes to run down and take your mail, as well as give you mail.
They'd have little envelopes for pure text mail, and various colors of boxes (like prize boxes, but with notes tucked into the top if there were text included) depending on the contents (e.g. gold for crowns, blue for CE and silver for items). The snipe would fly down to you, hover, and drop the item, at which point you would receive the mail. The snipes would have caps indicating their source, mail from a player would be delivered by a snipe wearing a yellow hat, an AH snipe would have a little red cap telling you so, and if it were from spiral HQ it would be blue. If you were to be offline at the time you received the mail, a snipe would be sitting in the ready room on log-in to give you the mail. Only one snipe per person would come on screen at once if you were in the clockworks/PvP, though you would receive all mail from all the sources who had recently sent you mail when said snipe dropped you mail. The stranger who currently explains snipes would explain how the UPS works.
Unrelated: OOO, you really need to give us a log of outgoing mail.
