My vision of mace-style weapons can be seen as hand-held Troika's. I mean this in the facet that the maces would inflict that AOE slam when fully charged.

Normal Attack(s)
The first two strikes would be a simple left-to-right slash which would do light-to-medium damage, and the third and final strike would result in a frontal charge with a 180-degree arc of attack; that does a heck-ton of damage. with one hell of a recovery time.
This is so that people could either decide to do two attacks and get out, or go all in.

Charge Attack
This is what gives the Mace archetype its functionality. Once charged it basically does the Troika charge attack i.e. step back, jump forward, slam.

Why?
This is weapon is for those who want the capability of pushing people away from you, without being encumbered with the slow swing speed of the Troika.

So you're just asking for a weapon that's almost exactly the same as a Troika...but hits faster?

Get a swifty = problem solved.

And whats the drawback? 2 wide slashes, chance of an extra ultimate hit, fast... It makes troikas completely obsolete.

Let me refine this idea

Hit 1) Speed: Brandish; Damage: Very Light; Recovery: Instant
Hit 2) Speed: Brandish; Damage: Very Light; Recovery: Instant
Hit 3) Speed: Troika; Damage: heavy; Recovery: long

This will make it so that the meat of the damage inflicted is at the tail-end of the combo, y'know the one where it leaves you exposed for as long as a Sealed Sword? So you can either do two weak attacks in very quick succession, or go all out.

Charge hit) After a medium charging time the player then unleashes an overhead smash, putting out a flip-ton of damage.

I decided to remove the push-back and replace it with just more damage. This, hopefully, moves it away from being a fast Troika and more towards being a heavy damage dealer, with most of the damage coming with the drawback of requiring knowing when to leave yourself exposed.

Maybe Vanaduke's mace is what

Maybe Vanaduke's mace is what makes people want maces.

Give Vanaduke a .05% chance to drop a smaller version of his mace that acts exactly like Fang of Vog or a Troika or something. Done.

Weapons shouldn't be built off real-world concepts, they should be built to fit niches in game and have whatever real world concept fits the weapon you've made be attributed to it.

1 sheep... 2 sheep... 4923 sheep...

It does sound like a sword. If you want this added it shouldn't be a whole new weapon type. After all they didn't make a new arsenal section titled "Hammers" just for this and this.

Hmm...

Find a niche within the game, fill it, then apply the real-world concept to the weapon. Thanks for that info. I'll try to design my weapon concepts around that idea from now on.

@All:

This'll be just like Ragnaros' Mace in WoW; everyone wants Vanaduke's mace...which you'll never get...

"OMG L3G3ND4RY 1337n355, D0 W4N7!11!!1"

And then every mace they make looks like a neanderthal's backscratcher.
