==SK sucks now, don't it?==

Let's get down to brass tacks here. Why is the game sucking a lot more now?

-CE prices

-Lack of Arcade activity (i.e. KoA/FSC only)

-Beggars/Noobs

-Trolls and jerks

Aside from trolls and jerks, which appear in every MMORPG once it reaches a good size, these all add up. Noobs beg because CE prices are high, CE prices are high because of KoA/FSC crown farmers, and people only do KoA/FSC because of missing Arcade activity...

==But Why?==

Come to think of it, the root of the problem is the missions themselves. Not just KoA, but missions in general. When new players start, the missions try to take up all their time and keep them from the Arcade (because missions are the only way to advance). They become used to missions and forget the Arcade, so by the time they complete all of the missions, they get bored with the game and decide to farm FSC for fancy costumes.

As well, missions are huge offenders in the case of hand-holding. They try to lead you through the game instead of trying out new things, and most players will only start using the Arcade after they complete all the missions (and Arcade use is rare in the first place).

==What do we do, Mr. Soarel?==

A simple solution here is to get rid of missions. Yes, you heard me. Get Rid Of Missions. If missions weren't in this game, a whole lot would be better here (as I explained above). Remember FFXIII and how it sucked because 75% of the game was walking in a line and killing random stuff? That's the problem. Missions must go.

I keep seeing threads like this one.

Seriously, why don't you guys pack together and play the arcade since there always seem to be some of you who wants to do that instead of missions?

Little rant aside, removing the missions as a whole is a really bad idea, you don't remove content from a game which has so little of it, it'd be much better if there were some kind of limitations to all of them such as the one on daily missions.

Limit, not Eliminate

I don`t have an issue with missions per say, other than the ability for people to keep doing them over and over.

I like being able to play a run through of the Dark Briar Barrage mission because you don`t often get the whole set of levels in the arcade but I also don`t want to be able to do it 5x in a row either.

The only other thing that is wrong with the mission system is that there isn`t one that directs players to run the arcade levels once they have completed the missions (i.e. this is what the game is (or was) about).

OOO recently used code to limit the number of times a player could access the Dark Harvest mission.
Apply the same code to all missions at frequency X (daily, weekly).

This won`t impact people wanting to access HoH once the Guild expansion launches as HoH will be an accessible `walk-in` location.
This will allow people to replay a mission but puts people back in the arcade to do mass farming.

Missions do serve a game purpose but the purpose is being abused.

They will never do away with the mission system, period. Also, before we had the mission system players used to coordinate jumps down to the most profitable levels of a gate all the time (really, that was part of the point of being a member of a large, active guild)--the main difference between then and now is scale: the mission system opens the same opportunity to all players. Sure, that contributes to cr inflation by putting more money in the hands of more players for the same amount of energy, but doing away with the mission system isn't going to effect that inflation--even if you prevented players with KoA clearance from inviting players without clearance, folks would just farm fsc from the gate instead. Try again.

Nah.

I do think that Missions clearly caused the CE price spike. Also, people who miss the Arcade days can't just 'get together and play the arcade' - CE costs more because farming only the best-paying missions is the only way to stay ahead if you're playing on CE. (With some exceptions if you farm the right T3s in the arcade.)

Missions and the cost of CE do not cause new players to behave noobishly or to beg - those players are simply whiny brats and they've always been on every multiplayer game. Learn to ignore them.

I think the lack of arcade activity has as much to do with the Hall of Heroes vendors as anything else. With almost all the recipes available, there's no need to visit Basil over and over, which was a big motivator for exploring the clockworks.

Anyway, while I understand the sentiment, things aren't going to go backwards. What we need is -not- to 'get rid of missions' (which just ain't gonna happen). What we need is an incentive to reach the clockwork terminals, the towns, and the sealed core. New UVs that can only be crafted from machines located at Terminals maybe. Materials hunting would be obvious except that that boat has already sailed - the missions already drop materials, brinks already sells materials for spark tokens, and the recipes are already written for a lot of equipment. Of course it can be worked around, it'd just be a lot to work around. Maybe give Basil something other than recipes to sell - costume items perhaps.

Those are just examples, but the point is, make the Arcade attractive again by making the arcade have a purpose instead of getting rid of the arcade's competition for player attention.

Beknights, with the mission

Beknights, with the mission system in place as it currently is, the only thing to do is grind KOA forever. Removing the mission system is a bad idea, but placing limitations on repetitive grinding of the same mission over and over again might help force players to experience more of the content the game has to offer.

Maybe if people actually used all of the content the game already has, they'd complain less about the lack of new content?

Even if we were back in the

Even if we were back in the arcade, people would go back to farming Firestorm Citadel an the Royal Jelly Palace.

So whadda ya get? The same problem, but not as extreme.

Prices will lower, the arcade would get more activity, but aside from that, people are still gonna farm those two areas.

Missions are helpful to newbs

Missions are helpful to newbs trying to get recipes but to Vanguards, Tier 3ers, Five Star peeps they don't really matter much. Well to me but I'm not sure about other peeps.

How about when you get one or two ranks past the rank of the mission, but at Vanguard it counts for all rank missions, you can only replay boss missions once a day and other combat missions twice a day? Dialogues can be redone as often as you want.

Now have some Cash.

Personally

Personally, i like the missions. They are fun, exciting, and a good chance for people to beat all the bosses. Plus, they provide free equipment and accessories at time.

I HAVE A VERY SIMPLE SOLUTION THAT I'VE BEEN SAYING FOREVER

Here it is:

Missions are re-do-able an infinite number of times, but on every time after the first, you get ZERO DROPS.

None, Nada. Zip. Zero. Zilch. No crowns, no heat, no mats. To counterbalance this, the missions will be completely FREE.

You can still be invited to missions from your friends, and you'll still be able to start them yourself. When you load in, you'll still see everything the exact same way. You'll still deal the same amount of damage. And you'll still be able to collect hearts and vitapods. However, there are a few key differences.

I. When SOLOING:
• No crowns or heat will drop.
• No mats will drop.
• Reviving is free.
• Elevators are free.

II. When NOT SOLOING:
• Crowns and heat will appear, but you simply will not receive them. Even if you run over them, they'll go to everyone else but you. Unless, of course, they've done it before too.
• You are not included in the behind-the-scenes dice-rolling to randomly select who gets material drops. (a.k.a. you get no mats)
• Elevators are free.
• Reviving is NOT FREE.

And a final note that will fix some more of the remaining arcade-death problems and such:
YOU CANNOT BRING KNIGHTS WHO HAVE NOT YET UNLOCKED THE MISSION WITH YOU.

This is how it is in the clockworks, there was no reason to change it for missions.

Branching Clockworks.

As the mission system is now, I personally find it very boring. Pressing 'M', selecting mission and bam, you're in it. It would be much cooler if players had to walk up to a specific NPC in Haven for the mission, and using different NPCs of course.

Something I'd find even more fancy is if people had to go down specific paths in the Clockworks to get to their mission. Maybe by adding several elevators in the levels which would make the Clockwork-tree branch out in different directions. That way the Clockworks (and the "hollow-cave-where-no-man-treads") would actually have a proper purpose again, instead of being made obsolete by a couple of menus.

Yet another thread complaining about the usual. "When new players start, the missions try to take up all their time and keep them from the Arcade (because missions are the only way to advance"

Hey, remember that missions are the "storyline" that people have been wanting in SK for a long time. And they never said you HAD to advance.......
"-Beggars/Noobs" I really don't understand the word "noob". I'm guessing in SK terms (and other games) its referring to someone who is not too good at the game. Then in that case there isn't a difference between a beginner and a "noob". I was playing Dota 2 yesterday and everybody kept on calling me a "noob" because it was my first time playing. Only they insulted me and a few others for being "noobs". Well I'm sorry (addressed to everyone out there who uses the term) that I can't be 100% like you, I REALLY (sarcasm self test detected) envy the people who are EXACTLY the same as you in games. As for beggars, well who is wanting the game to be changed?

"-Trolls and jerks" How do you troll people in SK? XD Open prize boxes in front of them? Sit next to them when they die instead of reviving? I find those "trolls" relatively harmless (even if I am on the receiving end) and mostly funny. As for jerks, well anyone who uses the term "noob" in the insulting way is one.

If missions weren't in the game, getting to 5* gear would be a whole lot harder. Please do tell me what is wrong with abandoning the arcade. Blast network is pretty much deserted nowadays, do you suggest that we should remove lockdown too?

"Noobs beg because CE prices are high" Well beginners (not gonna say "noobs) are in pretty much all MMO games that have a type of currency in them. Hey, sometimes I beg myself and honestly I don't see whats wrong with people begging. Even during the days when CE prices were only around 3k, people still begged. Can't blame CE prices on that.................

"a whole lot would be better here" Not to mention the storyline of the game would be much more confusing without missions.............
