I've been playing before missions were introduced, and the Minimap hasn't changed much.
Here is a list of improvements:

- Minimap Options -
A new section in which it is made for the minimap. Some things like toggle some elements, quality and size.

- Tag System -
Tags! Tags for friends, guildies or knights you just want to tag.
Tagged knights would have letters in there dots ( No, no. Example no es here). Guildies will have G's in their dots with the guild chat color (this can be changed). Friends' cursors will have the an F in the dot, has the /tell color (this can also be changed).

The best possible way on how to tag players is clicking the player and there would be a new option below 'Ignore', saying 'Tag', but these tags would only be the color of their personal color.
Another way would be to type "/tag [player] [color | color code]
Tagged players will have T's in their dots.

- Ignored -
Any ignored knights will not show up in the minimap. This can be toggled in the options.

- Tags for Monsters -
Simple. Nothing more I can explain.
There won't be any individual dots for monsters. There dots would be of their family symbol. Say I'm fighting some Wolvers, then there would be a crap-ton of beast symbols on the map.
Take this as a (very bad) sample.

- Danger! -
I sometimes go down the elevator without knowing that the next level would be very dangerous. And I end up wasting my energy.
The solution to this is to have a gate (two-way) to where the elevator is. Upon entering the gate, the danger level on the minimap would change to the danger level on the next floor.

- Smaller Maps -
There should be an option changing the size of minimap. Options like smaller, small, normal, large, larger, window size or just plain disabled (the buttons for the arsenal, loadouts and character would still be there though)

- Quality! -
The map is plain and has no edges. So basically:
Low and High

Since this is only for the minimap and nothing else, no lag.

Thanks for reading. If you have anymore suggestions post it here.

an idea for dot variation:

That white ring around the player dot? Change its colour

Oh yeah!

Oh yeah! I forgot about that. That should be easier and take less place in the minimap but at the same time it would be harder to detect. How about just making the cursor smaller?

A plain F or G inside the cricle. But rather than tagging, there should be an automatic option to mark everyone you know.

@Juances

The F or G is nice, and I already told that the guildies and friends would have tags (or in this case, G and F's) on there dots.

I just added the tagging option for you know, random people tagging.

also

When we do numpad commands like "follow me!" and "[player] has found something of interest!" or "[player] needs help!", that should show up on the minimap. Those commands don't help very much if the other player's halfway across the map or level.

I use paint.

@Klipik
Good idea, I don't know what to mark when they say that though.

For the "Follow me!" thing

For the "Follow me!" thing and "[player] has found something of interest", it probably shouldn't show up on the minimap, it should have a pointer arrow in the game screen that points off the edge of the screen in the direction of the player.
The minimap could reflect this by having an indicator such as an animated reticule/target that resembles a yellow version of enemy reticules (the ones that Reapers and Howlitzer-missiles use) circling the player's dot.

map

follow = look like the player becomes a spearhead that bulges up and down on the map. duration:4 seconds

found something of intrest = sparkle on the place the player said he found that topic of intrest. duration:10 seconds

fall back = an alert sign like an exclamation point! then a small cicular area around that player who said fall back will flash red. duration: 4 seconds

attack = (i wish it could show up as anay weapon.) a sword icon will pop up in the direction the player was facing.

wait = a shield icon will pop up on the player that pressed it.

i think thats it.
