Monthly map design competition?

This game has too few maps. It's not much of an adventure when you come across the same map a few times in a single week.

It would be very easy for a map editor to be made for a tile based game like this, so why not make that and have the best map design of each theme +LD, BN, and BN FFA added every month? Then you actually get to adventure, and only the most hardcore SK players would find the number of maps lacking.

So, at the end of a month, the levels added would be the best levels of each category made during the month, chosen by the maps being voted on by players, and the top 10 of each category being judged and sometimes edited by ThreeRings, just to make sure no easy money maps come into the game.

From day 1 to 15 you can make maps, voting is disabled.
For the rest of the month, voting is active and no new maps can be released.

The neatly summarized categories are:

Beast
Fiend
Undead
Construct
Gremlin
Slime
Lockdown
Blast network
Blast network FFA

It shouldn't be too hard to make levels, after all, Spiral Knights is a tile based game really.

A new map every month eh? Sounds cool

Should it be 3D, or even 2D, such that OOO crew can "translate" it

Of course, the tools are already there. If you look at the "Ask a dev" thread that has been answered recently, he mentioned that the tools already exist, but they are largely undocumented, and would probably have to be changed some for community usage.

1. 6 new maps, one per theme. If too many maps of one theme were accepted, damage and defence type economy would go crazy.
2. I was thinking more of a sort of level editor. The basics of such a thing likely already exist, exclusively used by OOO. It could be released like how VALVe released SFM, something for the use of only the company being developed into a public tool.

Aaaand, it died.
Perhaps due to the fact that people are more likely to respond to threads that they hate.
I really think this needs more people bumping it due to the spectacular +1 chain.

"So, at the end of a month, the levels added would be the best levels of each category made during the month, chosen by the maps being voted on by players"

But if a map is submited the 1st of a month... it'll obviously get more votes than another released the 29th.

I'd divide it into 2 stages:
-From day 1 to 15 you can make maps, voting is disabled.
-The rest of the month, voting starts and no new maps can be released.

...................Bull.

But how does said map maker work?

I can't suport a half and half thread.

Like any other tile based game level editor. Just place tiles.
