I assumed "Vog" was just a made up name, sharing similarities with the word "God"

But as I was checking wikipedia to see if he was named after some other mythical deity (such as Bahamut or Leviathan etc) I found out that vog is a real thing:

Vog is a form of air pollution that results when sulfur dioxide and other gases and particles emitted by an erupting volcano react with oxygen and moisture in the presence of sunlight. The word is a portmanteau of the words "volcanic" and "smog".

Pretty cool. I don't know how I've never heard of this before. It's like when I found of the "Pahoehoe" enemy from Breath of Fire 4 or the Kamehameha was named after a real thing.

So it seems like (as far as I can tell) the only boss not named after something else is Lord Vanaduke.

Ohh.

I think that's why the descriptions constantly refer to the armor set being kinda smelly and burnt smelling. Similar to how air full of volcanic smog would be kinda stinky, or at least hard to breathe in.

I settled on the name while

I settled on the name while on my honeymoon in Maui. The vog was so thick for half the trip that I never knew a whole island was just off the coast from where we were staying. When it cleared it was like waking up to find someone had rearranged the landscapes overnight, it was very jarring.

And the only force able to move landscapes other than the earth itself:

That's weird because Smog is

That's weird because Smog is a portmanteau of the words Fog and Smoke.

Jibberish words come from when people make stuff up lol.

Wow Nick, that's more

Wow Nick, that's more interesting than I expected. I assumed it was just some sort of brainstorming panel of designers.

The 10th secret is something involving the capsules that you can see in the clockworks, like the ones in the login screen. Apparently the levels such as deconstruction zones are located in there. Its somewere in the forums just look it up.

I think Vanaduke is named after Vanadium or Vanadis, some sort of goddess of beauty and fertility.(Rather ironic, that last one.)

Well, he isn't beautiful at all..............and I'm quite sure he doesn't make things fertile XD Quite the opposite...........Maybe these attributes applied to him when he was alive?

Wow. Thanks for sharing this

Wow. Thanks for sharing this with us. I have heard the word vog being used to describe volcanic smog but never thought to make the link (I'm just that smart). As for Vanaduke being named after Vanadium, that sounds quite plausible.

I just love the etymology of these kinds of things.
