Balanced Level Creator

A level creator for the game would work with the Gate Construction system. Player-created levels are cycled through the system in order of creation, and are only re-used in the absence of further submissions. Before you can create a level, you must decide what stratum and themes it will use. This will limit the types of enemies, objects, textures, and such you can use in the level. There are limits on the number of each type of enemy and on the total number of enemies you can place. The number of allotted treasure boxes is inversely proportional to the number of allotted enemies. Respawned enemies drop only hearts. The level editor must be smart enough to check that the level has a spawn elevator and exit elevator, a fully connected path between these elevators, and that nothing in the level's design can trap knights in the level. In the absence of such a system, a developer must review the level and check for these problems.

Opinions?

Manual checking of levels would be too slow with everyone submitting new maps.

I'm not sure of the feasibility of a smart automated checker. It would solve all the problems but there are lots of ways to mess with the level, either to cheat or to troll and trap players.

Put GMs to work

I'm pretty sure I've seen such level checkers before in other games, so I believe it's possible. The devs can modify the checker as they discover new ways for players to get trapped. Besides, the GMs need work to do. :P

@Thinslayer

You have no idea how many times the CMs have to pick up that Titan Statue from inside the Wheel Launcher. Don't you think they get a little sick of helping stupid/unlucky players out of the same silly situations? :P

lol okay

Still sounds like fun. I've never seen that kind of problem, though; what does it look like? Where does it occur? Have any pics?

A quick google search later...

The glitch occurs during the second room of D24 FSC. You use a statue instead of a totem to block one of the three wheel launchers, and it gets stuck.

WHOA!

We can get the CM's to come help us? wow, the whole time i alwaysed sacrificed myself and choose to be the statue in the party (if i am alone, i am forced to restart :( ). can u tell me how to call in the CM's in-game :P, this has happened to me countless times, i am so tired of having to sacrifice myslef T_T.

About the level creator, i actually agree that it would be very intresting if it can be created. But i really doubt the developers will give us the power to create our own levels (it might be a sense of prestige for them to create the levels hehe).

I see...

I see that there were lots of suggestions of this type. Guess I didn't search through the suggestions as well as I should have.

One problem I observed through the Google search is the possibility of trapping monsters to farm them. Even with a limited monster count, it would still be a problem. Not sure how to fix that. Some of the limitations I've been considering would just be irritating to work around. The devs or GMs could check the levels, as previously suggested, but they have enough work to do.

Perhaps the built-in level checker could check the relative locations of all the monsters to determine whether they are all too closely packed together, but unless someone is good at fuzzy logic, we'll have to find specific parameters for it, which could get complicated.

We may just have to put up with it if it happens. I reckon that, since the maximum number of monsters is limited, players would want to maintain a relatively constant number of enemies throughout the level in order to maintain player interest.

^That just might work, if we tweak it a bit.

So it's bettter if everything is just free. No play cost, no rewards. No checker neccesary.
Then add a rating system so a GM does review it if it's good and after that it starts giving crowns as a regular level.

Exploit options are limitless.
