Latisan here from the Arsenal podcast (the one all about Spiral Knights).

Our upcoming discussion is about "how to ruin a Spiral Knights party". If you'd like, post the things below that ruin the game experience for you so that we can discuss them.

YES, this applies to both PvE and PvP parties.
YES, post both generic things as well as pet peeves. We want to hear it all.
YES, you can make more than one post.
YES, you can post something that someone else already suggested.
YES, be controversial. We like that. xD
YES, feel free to pontificate on your dislikes as I do below.

NO, this does not apply to game mechanics. The question is held in regard to other players, not the environment (i.e. "Polaris spamming because it makes me lag" is valid. "Fiends kill me too quickly" is not.).
NO, there is no limit to the number of dislikes you can have.
NO, please don't start discussion about other people's dislikes here. If you want to do that, please take it up on another thread.

For example, let's get these out of the way quick. Some of the ways I personally find that an Spiral Knights party is ruined is:
• Someone is mic spamming. Thankfully, there's a quick way to supposedly mute those people. Unfortunately, that button doesn't always work. Moreover, because I'm often trying to voice chat someone else, I can't mute voice altogether. If you have significant background noise where you are, your mic should not be on.
• Someone is talking too much. If you're typing to the extent that it takes you out of a battle, you're doing it wrong. This is true in both PvE and PvP but especially the latter. Save the chat for when there's no one around or when you're dead. In PvE, there's really no good reason to chat whilst fighting. Moreover, if you're talking a lot, that bothers me. If there are four people in your party and you're talking more than 1/4 of the time, you're talking too much.
• Traveling merchants. The people that join my party and keep seriously bugging everyone to buy their stuff. Small or jovial requests are fine, but serious trade-seeking players trying to do business in a party is too much for me. If you want to trade, do it in Haven or on the forums.

"HP Trinkets." or how i call them, Noob Boosters. (you should have died but because of your noob booster you got some HP left)

PvE Ruining

"Wrong Teir, Stupid." I'm doing FSC or some T3 level. Some random T2 joins in.
"Which Tier is this again?" Joining a T3 Vanguard party. Turns out each other party member, other than me, is underclassed.
"Tab Me Bro!" Whats with these loser-bag who join a party just to get tabbed. And dude! I can see that your not out of Energy.
"Sir. Kick-a-lot." Woop! I havent died yet. Boss Man died though. Quite angry about it. Maybe i should give him a few minutes.... Nope. I get kicked out instead.

Haven Ruining

"Join My Party!" Doing some haven Related Stuff and an Invite pops up. You join to learn to your dismay that its the end of the level.
"Gime all yous crownz" What up with these Trade Request? and No, i dont think 10K crowns equals the couple of 2 star mats your trying to give me
"Join My Guild!" Hey Canine Vladmir? Want to join my Guild? 'um no thank you, as you can see i have the words Reign of Fire under my name' Are you sure? We are very active and junk 'Im sure but thanks anyway bye now' Well i leave you a guild invite just in case '._.'
"random Friend Request" Doing idle stuff when you get a random friend request from some stranger. Stranger Danger!

Guild Ruining

"Demote/promote Game" Hate it when the GM goes off line and one of the officers thinks its funny to demote/promote spam your guildes. Sure at the end, it goes back to normal, but man! so annoying.
"Oh, free stuff!" What kinda guild members need to craft something with 1k of Blue Shards?

I wouldn't call it a "flame war". It's a predecessor to a discussion. Granted, the discussion on the podcast will be varied and interesting and we might not say what some people want us to say, but it's still just discussion. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I believe in working through why they believe what they do, rather than attacking them as a person.

Granted, we may or may not be able to use your "titles" as clearly as you might want, but yeah. Good stuff and keep it coming.

Pardon my ignorance, but what's "AA"?

The correct abbrevation should be AT, which stands for Auto Target.
AA means Auto Aim, which is a feature that is often used by hackers in First Person Shooters.

shenanigan in blast network about walls not stoping explosions and people going over the bomsb you just placed when he where 1block and half away but in other situations where you in front of a guy , with max speed , place a bomb .. he do the whole path around the corner wall and place a bomb next to you faster than you can pass 2 block and stillc ant pass over the bomb you where already half over it when he placed it

people killing almirians over ,. and over , and over , and over , and over , and over , and over , and over ... instead of the little zombies left in the very last round of the very last arena room of legion of almire (unknowingly they respawn)

people not killing that "other censored word" buttefly at rabbid snarby or taking century before rezing themself at rabbid snarby giving him the oportunity to fully heal both snarbies

going trough the second gate before killign all the almirians at the right gate of legion of almire "second level"

going in the upper area at ghost int he machine in the left side "second level"

using trollaris in a team of +than 1 against non imobile elenemy (else than turrets and heavy enemy like lumbers)

pvp: when in preparation room, write to all that your team wil loose for sure and then leave the party.

pve: if someone always res u just die as much as possible and wait for others to die too, then dont ce res!!! and dont forget write "lag" after each death.

I revved people as vana's mace came down an avoided taking damage due to revving people. Just take a chill pill.

Go AFK AFTER THE BUTTON PLEASE!

You can talk to your homies, just kill the monsters or hit the button first.

Some times I play SK without my glasses and still I can see what weapon I have out. Stop bringing archeon to undead levels!

Disregard Canine's Alchemer Switching bit. It's a valid strategy and certainly takes more skill than the average Skolver.

Lockdown:

-Complaining about weapons. Yes, Polaris is very spammy and the Shock is a pain, we don't need "OMG NOOB POLARIS SPAMMR GO DIE U STOOPED SPAMAR" to know that.
-Whining about Auto Target. Auto Target barely does anything, and saying "OMG AA NOOB U SCK KILL UR SELF" is more annoying even than Polaris.
-NOT FIGHTING IN BOMBS. I can't stress this enough. I've got a big field of shocky/freezy/stunny/poison...y death here, and you aren't taking advantage of it? Understandable if the enemy's gunning, but against a Skolver Striker without Polaris... there is no excuse.
-SHOCK MAX UVS. I HATE THEM SO MUCH.

Clockworks:

-Igniting Oilers. I understand if you had a fire weapon charged and entered the room without expecting them, and I understand if it's your first encounter with Oilers, but actively charging a Combuster when being chased by Oilers is just... wrong.
-A lot of people will complain about bombs knocking enemies into them. That rarely happens to me, though I haven't partied with many Nitro Bombers myself (although I look forward to the day where our guild does a Nitro Only Clockworks run). I've got my own pet peeve: knights knocking enemies out of my bombs! Please, if you can, take the extra half second to run around the enemy so your Troika pushes them into the Dark Retribution.
-Joining with low star gear (4* is OK in FSC, 3*, not so much), without asking for permission, or while lying about your combat capabilities. Generally, I'll take someone through a level if they need the crowns or want a challenge, but the party needs to know this.
-REVIVING WITH ENERGY WHILE A PARTY MEMBER IS ALIVE. Why? We're trying to save energy for crafting and for more levels. You can wait for me to blast my way out of this horde of gremlins that's nearly got me surrounded so I can revive you, thank you very much!
-Kicking somebody out when I join with an improper weapon... IN THE FREAKIN' MISSION LOBBY. Double Jerk points if I came straight from Lockdown, another Mission, or a Clockworks stage.

Behavioral:

-Ridiculous begging. I am not against charity, nor do I frown on random acts of kindness. But begging for 4000 crowns is pretty stupid when there is nothing keeping you from waiting a while on your Mist Tank and running a gate for more crowns.
-"Only post agreeing with this suggestion." How many times have I heard that on the suggestions forum? If you're posting an idea, be prepared for criticism.
-By the same token, not being fair with your own criticism of others' suggestions drives me bonkers. And don't be harsh! There is "constructive" and "destructive" criticism. Constructive criticism points out problems with the suggestion and offers fixes if they're available, while destructive criticism always comes with a personal attack and is just given to make the suggester feels stupid, without actually trying to help him make a better suggestion. The latter does not help anyone and does not make its source look smart.

How to ruin PvP(Dont forget to grab a popcorn with you.):
-Try using only Polaris
-Immediately switch to your proto loadout when the match starts, and continue with it.
-Be a recon, dont attack, always runaround while you are invisible, make everyone deathmarked. Trust me, it really ruins.
-Use lagmaster weapons like nitronome and BTB charge.
-Wear vog cub, only use FoV charge.
-Be a skolver clone, and act like a gunslinger.

How to ruin PvE:
-Join casual grinder parties and do stupid things(like trying to attack other knights, sitting in the middle of the combat)
-Use lagmaster weapons like nitronome and BTB charge.
-Always use /shout before your sentence.
-Act like a noob, keep whining about lag and when you die, keep yelling "revive me"
-Act like a weirdo, keep yelling mutiny messages like "OOO wants you to grind their missions like a slave, stop being a slave!"
-Use weapons with great knockback and low dmg like calibur charge(And do it while others trying to attack something)

also .. my favorite .. start a vanaduke party with shiver , blitz , voltedge AND ... 3 STAR TROLLARIS
and only use the 3 star trollaris to push monsters around FOR THE WHOLE RUN / say brb at every button an wait for at least 5 minutes each just next to a wall (hammer avoiding) /stand in the corner of the elevator and yell at people to get on/ open all the heart case before they finish / USE EVERY PILLS YOU FIND for what ever amount of damage you have ... the less hurt you are , the funnier it get / shieldbump trojans about to be blitzed at spawn / if all your team die .. go the closest to them as posible and die faking to fight monsters ... right next to your teamates / shieldbump all the zombies / activate the puppy rocket in the puppy room then get out of the room .. repeat every time it respawn / take a zombie revive token and follow your dear beloved teamates and accidentaly be where zombies been killed .. and acidentaly .. you stay next to the zombie head till the pulse of the totem /use your 3 star trollaris at the last room of fsc third floor, to push there where the health and ice pad side, lol / estinguish every shadow fire .. EVERYWHERE.

and of course .. break the ice of vanaduke as most as posible

People who constantly walk around with charged blitz needle, even when there are a ton of enemies around and they can't dodge. Then when they die and get rev'd, do it again.
People who rage rev in the first level of something then don't have enough energy to finish near the end. Or the team wipes and revive costs are too high because of their indiscriminate usage.

PvP:
-The idea that a limited availability weapon which has attack mechanics that allow players to enable an in-game cheating agent and proceed to blindly mash their attack button and be super effective would be a good addition to the game.
-That in-game cheating agent I just mentioned.
-Causing your team to loose by purposefully equipping an underpowered weapon and being dead weight.
-Those people from the GH update who got a free 2* sword and decided that Tier 2 lockdown in proto armor would be a good idea.

PvE:
-having delusions that you are better than everyone else in the party because of your shiny new sword you have no idea how to use.
-dying alot.
-threatening to kick highly skilled players without realizing that your party will die without them.
-setting everything on fire.
-shocking everything.
-bringing a combuster to Firestorm Citadel or Compound 42.
-bringing a voltedge to ghosts in the machine.
-bringing a slow weapon to a fiend level.

Personally I find if you actually use the hammer and get used to its movement than it is actually easy to dodge another hammer user... but that could just be me.

Hmmmm, complaints, let me think.

PvE:
Kicking just to be a pain. "Why thank you. Yes, I would like to lose all my heat at the end of the arena after I said I was leveling something and picked up your dumb butt several times because you can't dodge."
Knocking enemies out of the bomb blast radius.

PvP:
Polaris spam, but not for the reason most people complain about it. If all you're going to do is spam the Polaris than WHY are you wearing Skolver instead of Gunner armor?
CE reving in GvG. I have watched (and been in) matches where the teams are evenly matched and the only reason one team wins is because they CE rev EVERY time they die. To the point of some of the people dropped over 500 CE in the match.

(I purposefully left out the name of the guild(s) in the second LD complaint. Although I do not think they have to be named. Or you might have a guilty conscious if you think it is yours... who knows..)

In PvE on Firestorm Citadel, run again a wall for about 10 minutes. When you start moving around again, complain of a DC and say you're sorry. Repeat 3 times every depth. If you're party leader, even better.

-Having a person join your party, then leave, causing your party to be restricted.
-Having a team member pm the party leader that they don't like you, and the leader then removes you, just based on another person's preferance.
-Having a person who doesn't know how to use Electron Vortex right, leaving bombs in the absolute wrong places and causing the rest of the team to be trapped by it.
-Having a person criticize your gear because they don't like that certain thing.
-Having a team leader afk the whole level, and expect the party members to drag him/her along.
-Having a noob charge into a trojan spamming AP, causing the trojan to turn and dash into you.
-Having a lecture from a player who thinks they are better than you.
-Not getting a hug from Laylla <3

@Megatech If you REALLY want to know, this game is full of stereotypes, like skolvers will only be swordsman, or shadowsun users will only be gunslinger...But if you use gunslinger weps like alchemers and antigua line weps, you will get bad reputation like"OMFGZ USE YOUR SWORD SPAMMER". I've done it and it works.

Since this is a vent / discussion thread...

In PvE
1. Rushing. I'm not a total AFK guy, but at least give your fellow members the time to pick up mats, vials, and crowns. For Larryboy's sake, this is a game. You're supposed to waste time.

2. Elitist party leaders. Sure, I might kick a T2 once I actually see how good / bad they are in FSC, but that doesn't mean I'm willing to kick a 4* just because I'm 5*. this has also happened with 2* and 3*, etc.

3. Noobish all the way. I have an extreme prejudice towards p2p players, but I avoid saying anything. However, it frustrates me on how a p2p slingshots into Defender Elite without even learning the BASICS of the game, all of which is covered by the tutorials. Sure, maybe I'm willing to help a 1*-2* with stuff like that, but at 4*, a player SHOULD be able to know the mechanics of the game. I don't have the heart to deprive people of their gameplay by kicking them, but it makes me so irritated when an Ash Tail user can't even block, shield bash, v, etc. due to the lack of knowledge. On the other hand, there are also people who are completely of incapable of remembering such. Some can't block, others don't know how to even attack, and still others don't use their vials and such when another party member could have made much better use of it.

4. D**ches & Others. Sure, one might be able to solo Rocket Puppy Twins in Proto, but does that change anything about how a person interacts with other players? I am always pestered by idiots who think they know more than I do, and end up screwing everyone over but themselves. There's also people who ask me to kick VALUABLE party members who haven't done anything wrong (ex: FSC shiver + blitz combo who's a really nice person too :D), because the persecutor can't stand to be outclassed by someone else. Then there's the guy who wears SL and demands respect because of that. And then there are ppl who flood in obscenities when they're winning, not losing, WINNING. I'd understand a flood of curses from dying, but really? Do people need to take it that far?

How I've had my parties ruined in PvE:

Someone has joined while I'm on a bombing run. Cool, I'm find with other people joining me. That's not the problem. The problems are the following (when I'm on bombing runs):
-Hitting monsters AWAY from my Dark Retribution. Seriously, it's the best weapon in the game against slimes and you're gonna try doing better than it?
-Hitting monsters AWAY from my DBB. Hurp durp. This bomb instantly interrupts gremlins and beasts. It is perfect for them, yet most of the "durp toothpick" crowd just hits them away. Why not have bonus points and hit them INTO the bomb with a BTB charge?
-Hitting monsters away from my status clouds, especially stun. We all know stun is still slightly bugged, so hit them into the stun cloud. The other ones I don't mind so much.

If someone has joined me while I'm doing a pure gunner run, I'm fine with that. Problems arise when they:
-Go hurp durp brandish charge while I have five enemies lined up PERFECTLY for a max damage nova driver charge, which could instantly kill those five enemies, provided they were a tad damaged first.
-Completely ignore the fact that I'm using my alchemer switching macro to shield lock the trojan SO YOU CAN KILL IT without it ever turning on you. Come on, people. Take a hint!

General:
-Ignore my orders while I'm party leader. Higher ranks in the guild in which I'm a member are exempt because I won't boss my bosses around. XD
-Ignore my advice if I join JUST to pick the entire party up. I joined in to pick up a party that wiped in RT and they hardly listened to my orders. On the boss fight, I actually WAITED for them all to die before getting back up and finishing the battle on my own. It's one of the rare times I do that.
-Pass right by me while I'm down and it's safe. Now, I understand sometimes because I'll get into situations where I deserve to die. I'll admit that since I run full chaos to be a glass cannon. Still, if you pass over me a couple of times, I'm gonna ask for a res.
-Lack of team play. This more applies to shadow lairs, but if it feels like we're just four people carrying four different solo runs, it's a bit... dumb.
-Tab warriiors. If you're a random, don't come asking me for a tab. I'll gladly tab a guildmate until I run out of mist energy, mainly because I have an elevator pass.
-Random requests. I get so many trade/friend/guild request JUST because of my accessories at times. "Wolver Tail? He must be rich." Also, the fact that I get guild requests while there's an obvious "Unity" tag there is a little unnecessary.

There are probably more, but I'm too tired to think of them.

Both shrubs and bushes drop crowns, improving the efficiency of your run. Shrubs tend to drop crowns and hearts more often.

you're not the only people trying to make some money from merchanting or get recipes on the cheap

also those guys who don't listen to asking to stop pulsar spam
or who rush ahead then complain when they keep dying

I must raise an objection to your statement.

This is no longer true, if they join late in a stratum. One of the items in the 1/16/13 patch notes says this:
"- Unavailable items will no longer be displayed in Basil's shop at a Terminal level"

So in other words, they may actually be unable to see that Basil is carrying a DA recipe, or whatever.

1) I did a twins run once where the party leader says brb on the first level and then leaves for like 7 minutes. Then he comes back and bumps his mouse to not get kicked then says brb again. After waiting 15 minutes or so in total we finish the first level and he dies a whole lot with 5 star gear, and he criticizes my gear then goes up :/
2) Also on a twins run, I do not like when everyone says I can do switches at the beginning then when we get to the fight they keep hitting them and ruining it. I am more than willing to let someone switch if they say they want to switch, but a warning would be nice.
3) People sabotaging their team in lockdown because their friend is on the other team and wants the bombhead is quite cruel. I had that happen to me once and then the guy said that he was not sabotaging and that he was just busy that match and that he really wanted the bombhead too, yet he goes right back to standard playing after and I saw him in haven that night with the other guy both wearing the bombhead.
