Hello all.

So I am getting bored of being able to kill everything very quickly and would like to have some variety in my swords. I am thinking of getting a cutter line but don't know which.

I recently read in a post that one has the problem of being unable to combo cancel (and it was not mentioned which), as well as range differing.

Can anyone confirm which is which, and your personal opinion?

Damage wise, apparently both do the same damage to all things other than wolvers. Is this true?

@bopp I have read your guide before posting this.

Yep, at the end the number are exactly the same. Wild hunting however has more capability of flinching enemies at charge, and more animation. So your choice kinda either cooler animation + flinching or poison. You can shield cancel anytime, just know when to stop clicking attack and hold shield. The phantom strike (secondary) has smaller attack area than original swing, so you must get a bit closer for phantom strike.

haha

Thanks for saving me the time to link, and in general for doing your research. There have been many threads comparing these swords.

I have both of these swords. Their regular attacks are very similar, except that one poisons and the other has a beast bonus. I can perceive no difference in the canceling of combos. WHB has much flashier graphics. I haven't checked the comboing speed of WHB yet. Edit: Preliminary tests suggest that WHB combos at the same speed, or perhaps slightly slower.

The charge attacks are different. WHB's charge interrupts monsters more often than DVS' does. Hence WHB's charge is safer. But neither of these charge attacks is really safe, when there are multiple monsters around. Here's some new information: WHB charges 10%-20% more slowly than does DVS (data).

.

Can you comment on the difference in range?

Apparently, the WHB has longer range as attacks originate from the animated wolvers, which is further out than the DVS which is from the blades.
This isn't confirmed, just that on the balancing thread it was mentioned.

tested first swing and charge at advanced training hall, their range exactly the same, animated wolver doesn't make difference. I think all same sword "type" has exactly the same range, (also tested first swing WRH = first swing Gran Faust = first swing Troika range)

Thanks a bunch

Ill be getting myself a DVS then. I would've got the WHB if it had better range but it doesn't, so thanks for the heads-up.

hard to measure

I have heard claims about range too, but I don't remember them. The range is hard to measure in a reliable way. I have run three tests in the ATH, in which I see how close I have to be to a regenerating block to destroy it:

A. Use the first stroke of the combo to destroy the block.

B. Use the entire regular combo, testing whether the final swing destroys the block.

C. Use the charge attack, testing whether the final swing destroys the block.

In all three of these tests, DVS and WHB appear to have identical range, even though WHB has wolvers popping out all over the place. Maybe someone with more experience can clarify/expand/remind where the extra range is supposed to show up.

premature graveyarding

As the "owner" of the thread, you can graveyard it whenever you want. But do keep in mind that other people may be interested in what your thread has to say. There's no reason to graveyard a thread that contains useful information when it's been alive for only an hour. In fact, you might as well just leave it in the forum. It's as useful and interesting as most threads that are left there. Furthermore, there certainly are people that claim that WHB has longer range than DVS, and these people will never have a chance to weigh in, because they'll never see this thread.
