I was playing LD and had this happened to me and to my gf who was playing in a separate game at the same time, completely different people, both complaining and attacking us for using the full combos of our swords. Here's the conversations 1 2 (you can ignore the steam chat)

Now, I personally find people who complain in LD very annoying, just yelling out "AA! TROLLARIS SPAM! HAMMER SPAM!" as if it'll fix anything, but those are reasonable complaints, I agree these types of spam can be unfair and annoying. However, using the full combo of a sword..what?! I think we need to draw the line between spam and playing the game normally, because if using your swords as they were intended to be used can not be spam, how else are you to use a sword without "spamming"?! Am I to only use the first swing and pause for a few secs before attacking again? And I think people are forgetting all these techniques, including real spam, are fair game, whether you like it or not, there's no rules against it, you can't get banned for doing it, and you can't expect everyone to do as you want them to, you can't police them to not spam, it's pointless to do so. Rant over.

Spam = continuous clicking of the button, wasting your life time for that.

Complain = attacking the perpetrators verbally

I honestly do troll around, saying "Look at all the AT spammers :3", well sadly true but, isn't complaining.

"Look at all the hammers" then I swipe out mine and attempt to kill them.

"Look at all the..." you get my point.

As far as I'm concerned, it's spamming if you can put very little effort into the same repetitive task, and get high rewards. In the case of combos, this would be if you had AT on and just mashed the crap out of your attack button whenever you saw someone.

Most AT users never recognize that throwing a 3 hit combo without AT in most cases will never hit the target.

If you were using 3 hit combo + AT, them you should be ashamed of posting this crap here, good for you, 99% of players do the same and will support just because they need AT just like you.

Someone once told me that 'spam is in the eye of the beholder,' but i think it really boils down to what has already been said: anything that the other person can't find a way to get around automatically becomes spam. I've been called 'spammer' too for putting down a bomb and then, ya know... putting down another one...

You know what? i'm highly puzzled by the fact that no one seems to even notice that you can't name someone who you believe to be wronging you on the forums. This has come up countless times, and you can just edit their name out of the picture. It's that simple.

"Spamming" is a very abstract term -- It's difficult to justify calling someone a spammer for putting down 2 bombs, but it's easy to justify calling someone a spammer for constantly using a polaris. Different weapons act, differently, though...

Although I agree with this post seeing as complaining is pathetic, there is another point I would like to address.

If you are insulting/complaining [to] other players for having good aim or for "spamming" then you are shameful. The only thing people are doing is playing a game which is not an act of "spam" or AT.

The word spam was created by a loser in the past when he/she got mad when they died. That is the true meaning of spam, rage when death occurs. The AT discussion has lost it's point because Feller and his posse do nothing but complain about the community and get banned 4 times a month.

If someone has good aim, you should compliment them and not attack them. If someone does good in a LD game, do not insult them or call them rude names, congratulate them for a well job done. I type this with my own experiences of having having great all-around scores and getting disrespected(I can't show pictures of people doing this because it's against ToS) for not saying a single word. I am sent mail saying how I disrupt the balance of LD and how this effects the economy (what?). It truly proves how disgraceful people can be over losing to a virtual character on a screen. Although, the hate has died down over the last few months, it's happening to others and I hate seeing it. If you complain about this game, then please do us all a favor and leave. Polaris, hammer, AT are all used by everyone and if you can't get used to it, FIGHT it. Do not complain, learn to counter it and enlighten yourself. You are getting nothing done by insulting Jempire or insulting some skolver "clone"(just some of the many examples).

+1 to you Hr-Dalp, you have achieved logical and common sense.

P.S - Don't name people on forums as it is against ToS.

And a clarification for that last one: simply using the full combo of a sword once or twice is not spamming, it's when it becomes excessive overuse with the combination of Auto Target and using exclusively full combos with no hint of having any idea how to do anything else. There are definitely situations where a full combo of a toothpick-type or SS line sword is the best option, most notably when in a 1v1 situation where you know you can kill the player with the second SS hit and not be in danger from anyone around you, or you are chasing a fleeing player and you use the full toothpick combo to catch them for the final hit. Otherwise, I see people using the full combo too much as a sign that they don't know how to use the weapon correctly, and if they kill me with the "combo spam" and are clearly using Auto Target, I do not count is a a "fair" kill because they did not do all the work themselves. (On a side not, I made him ragequit T2 LD! Ha!)
Anyway, this is not people complaining about you 'spamming combos' which, btw, is generally not a good idea as you tend to end up dying if you do that; it is because these people are immaturely acting like 6-year-olds as they believe that they are just too skilled to die in LD. It's the same people, btw, behind the majority of complaints of 'spam, AA, trinkets' excepting where there actually ARE any of these things.

In other words: It's not spam, these people just can't take being beaten.

Spam: A very common excuse

Spam: A very common excuse for players who get killed in Lockdown. One simply uses Spam as an excuse to cover up the fact that they do not know how to dodge or put on better gear based on the average damage type being dealt out by the enemy team. Instead, one becomes a Skolver clone and proceeds to complain about getting killed by a weapon that does elemental or shadow damage.

^ That should be added to an official dictionary of Spiral Knights terms/slang. In my opinion, anyone who whines about spamming combos, spam this spam that is simply just using it as an excuse because they died in LD and don't want to admit that they don't know how to dodge or put on something other than Skolver for once. I just laugh at people when they complain to me after I kill them with a weapon that is strong against their defenses.
