Why do people keep asking for a piercing Antigua?

I tried the 3* Antigua against devilites in a T2 mission and it was the most tedious thing I'd ever done. Not a moment went by in which I didn't wish I'd brought a Magnus instead. The little jerks constantly dodge. Unlike with Magnus, the shots don't root them in place so I have to keep my aim trained on them. Due to lag there's no way to hit them mid-dodge, and since auto-aim doesn't work while you're moving I have to give up the one benefit the gun has if I hope to hit anything. I did not feel like I got hit any less than while using Magnus, either.

Pretty much the only way to make this gun usable against devilites was to run up in their faces and spam bullets at point blank. It worked, but at that point why not just get a sword?

Meanwhile, Magnus does lots of damage, will inflict stun, staggers up devilites so that you can unload both shots at them in succession, and has a charge attack that lets you just about kill them in one shot from outside of the range of their projectiles. I feel safe using Magnus against devilites. With Antigua, I just felt frustrated.

...

a part of the reasons was because of vanaduke. But people already get accustomed with blitz needle so ...
I guess greaver would die easier on piercing antigua.

the Antigua guns are easy to use

The Antigua guns are highly mobile and easy to use. They require no skill at all. People are frustrated by fiends, and want an easy gun to use on them. Blitz/Plague and Callahan are all somewhat immobilizing.

Also, Argent and Sentenza used to be split piercing damage (as you know), and the move to pure elemental and pure shadow left some people wondering, "What about pure piercing?".

Finally, there are some people on these forums who think that each kind of weapon should come in each damage type and status type, so that we can each choose our ideal combination of play style, damage, and status. (I think that such uniformity would be boring.)

It start as piercing. There isn't any written rule against that but it looks weird
- altought this inconsistency could be "fixed" by changing antigua itself instead of adding a new line -

@Bopp

As I elaborated on above, Antigua isn't an easy gun to use on devilites. Such a gun would need homing bullets. Until then, we'll have to take the next best thing: A gun that hits instantly, roots the devilites in place and kills them quickly. Callahan.

true, but people don't know Callahan

I agree with your original argument for why Antigua isn't good against devilites. I guess what I'm saying is: People don't know that. They like the Antigua lines in general, and they dislike fiends, and they conclude that they'd like a piercing 5-star Antigua.

Also, many players have never seen Callahan used, probably. The original "Ask a Master Gunslinger Anything" thread advocated for Callahan. But then people realized how powerful Blitz was, and everybody got Blitz. And once people have Blitz, they are less likely to spend resources getting another piercing gun, unless that gun has some obvious massive advantage. To the contrary, Callahan has several deficiencies, which have been discussed to death (not great damage, pratfall on charge, insanely slow charge movement speed).

I still recommend using blitz

I still recommend using blitz against devilites though. Dead devilites are the safest way to survive in devilites assaults.

I did ok on those guys using a silversix, I think I did that by shooting some shots off to the sides so they'll run into it (same as if you used Polaris) or by keeping distance so they don't dodge too much. But that doesn't have the point and shoot simplicity people are hoping for (I usually see people using blitz for that)

I agree though, Magnus->Callahan line is the way to go.
