We need a GvG tournament, just a heads up. (Possible registry?)

-1200ce per guild (can just pool together easily)
-No subs from outside the guild allowed
-VLR ruleset
-Approximately 24kce+ in winnings

10/10 would play. We need something like this. Only problem is we need a 3rd party to hold the pooled winnings for us, so let's get things done in this thread and promote a competitive LD GVG metagame.

Totally down for this.

Maintaining the VLR might be difficult in such a high-stake, competitive situation, and DQing offenders might not be a good idea either, due to the ce pooling.

Query: where does the 24k ce winnings come from? A patron of LD?

On a tangent here, LD has been in great need of better match organization for a long time now. This organization includes enforcing certain rules, restricting UVs, etc etc. My theory on why this has not happened yet is because LD's playing base (at any one time in the day) is too small to allow further division of the players. If we were to create new restricted "tiers" like "no trinkets", and "no uv's", there would never be enough players in any "tier" to ever get a game started.

Where this comes back to the OP: OOO hasn't had a reason to organize LD, so we''ll have to do it ourselves as players. If we want a third party (a patron of LD guild?) to hold the winnings and publicize the tournament, we could probably get it done.

It would be 5v5 so there is someone that checks revs, and possibly no revs since its hard to keep checking just 3 per player.

The only way the tournament

The only way the tournament would work is if it was OOO-sanctioned and that the rules proposed, be it VLR or otherwise, would have to become an official subset of LD rules if OOO was to sanction it, which in turn makes it even less likely for it to happen.

Reason I say it'd need to be OOO-sanctioned or monitored is because of the amount of biased-ness that any competent player holds. No matter how you cut it, anyone who's been in more than one or two LD matches in general will eventually learn to pick out people they don't like and complain about what they do being unfair. Why? Because there's no clearly defined definition of what is fair in LD as proposed by a governing third-body (i.e. OOO). With money on the line, that's only going to be intensified ten-fold. At least with a clearly-designated official who can actually impose punishments for breaking rules and conversely act as a moderator for settling disputes over the rules, it's less likely for there to be any major issues that would ruin the spirit of the tournament.

So while I love the idea, and would consider playing in it (be it with EoS or filling in with another guild), I doubt it would be worth pursuing given the current state of the community.

@Canozo: You can check revs

@Canozo: You can check revs because whenever there is a line coming from the opposing base someone has revved.

We will need a list of referees familiar with the VLR ruleset and are not among the guilds participating in the tournament to prevent a conflict of interest.

Most likely the guild masters

Most likely the guild masters will have to set up a time between themselves. This way you won't have one guild's A-team vs their Z-team.

My thoughts

1) I've seen many people attempt to do this. Although I've not seen success or I'm not up to date on the current standings.
2) Why not just have all matches on weekends. I'm assuming everybody is available on weekends. Or at least the vast majority of SK players are.
3) Make this an esport for MLG. (heheheh) Create seasons. Like for example say there are 12 teams in the US. There is a round robin sort of deal. Each team plays every other team 4 times. So one team would play (4 * 11) 44 games in one season. Every weekend they play 4 matches or something. Then you create the rankings based on wins + loses. If there is a tie between two teams, the team with the more wins against the other team gets the higher spot. Then at the end the top 8 go into playoffs in the US and compete for CE prizes or whatever.
4) You could have like the winner of US play against the winner of EU.
5) And maybe halfway through the season, have an all star break. All star break could consist of 1v1 mini tourneys, 2v2, infinite LD, no weapons + only capturing. Those events can involve the players in the season as well as the audience or people that don't play LD but would like to play. And then the All Star Game. Have a poll. Vote the best 6 of US, best 6 of EU, then have them fight in each server.
6) As for rules, there should be like a ref for each match. I have no idea about the rules. I remember the VLR from Njthug, but I don't wanna go search for it. Too lazy. Anyways, it's all about tactics really. How will you capture points/defend points? Polaris Spam? Bomb? Find an opening through Polaris Spam and kill? Surround the team on both sides? Toggle on or off your AA? Go capture other points?

Whatever happens, Good Luck Neo

@Zaderules Oh man I am in

@Zaderules

Oh man I am in total agreement with you. I am 100% for a swiss-style tournament instead of single-elimination off the bat like most of the GvG tournaments you see here--and the top 4 swiss scores will then face off in single-elimination. I mean yeah, round robin would be cool but I don't know 12 guilds with that level of dedication to the game, unless of course...they register right here.

EDIT: For there to be a season, there needs to be comprehensive casting. For that to happen, we need a guild of players who are willing and able to cast and officiate matches without there being a conflict of interest.

I guess we could have the refs also be the casters on twitch.tv or something. I have a twitch account, but I barely record anything on it. Reducing the people on spectator mode could reduce lag I assume? But yah. Swiss style would work probably better.

Is there anyway to organize

Is there anyway to organize the matches, I mean can you ensure that guild A takes on guild B?

http://www.challonge.com

Only the administrator is allowed to advance the bracket. The appointed casters/officials will report to the administrator of the tournament. Teams will only advance with valid screenshots only. SO yes, to answer your question: visual proof is needed of victory PLUS the word of an appointed official.

Boom!

@Neodasus: "@Canozo: You can check revs because whenever there is a line coming from the opposing base someone has revved."

No. The lines represent when someone has spawned in, this can be done by CE rev or waiting. You can check CE revs by sound and spectators.

I can help record from spectator mode if needed.

But is kind of random.

OOO we need a free ghost camera, and if there is one, no idea how to use it, I never spect.

Also, if you need a "treasury man" just let me know.. I'm a welthy and "known" player, so there's no way I'll run away with da MONEY...

If anyone is good with bookkeeping we could also start an SK "lounge" and have wagers on every match.

That's a little hard

In our 1vs1 tournament we always tried to do that, but not enough people like to bet, or most times 99% of people bets for the same player/team.

We could try.

Like I said I have enough cr/ce to build a castle and sleep inside or the rest of my time, so if you need a treasury man, book keeping, stripper etc. just call me.

Hey I just meet you.. this is crazy.. here's my number.. so call me maybe .. !!
