I have seen a lot of 5 star items and compared them to their corresponding 4 star ones in the wiki, and quite frankly, they have the same stats, so what's the point of having a 5 star items apart from showing off?
What is the point of 5 star items?
There are other features for all 5 star weapons as well? What about Leviathan Blade?
Leviathan blade stays the same. That is to say, it has just as much obnoxious knockback as its predecessors.
They usually have a 10%, if not more, damage boost, in the case of weapons. And the charge attacks are improved.
In the case of armor, there is a huge difference between 4 star and 5 star, in regards to variety and offensive bonuses, and even in the case of status resist.
Ya, on some things the upgrade is more noticeable than in others.
Bombs get bigger explosions. That's a more obvious example.
Bombs get bigger blast radii, Alchemers the bullet moves faster as the star level goes up and more ricochets on the charge, Brandishes the charge attacks reaches farther, most armor lines have multiple variations they can become (Gunslinger for example can become Deadshot, Justifier, Nameless, or Shadowsun). Most 5* armors give much nicer bonuses than their 4* versions also.
Also after D23 4* items quit having their damage increase for the most part, mostly due to Strata 5 supposed to be the area for 5* items. http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Silent_Nightblade Just as an example.

between a fused demo suit, and any of the 5* ones. Huge difference. Also from miracle to chaos, cobalt to almirian, dark thorn shield to barbarous, the list goes on.
And on the topic of bombs getting a bigger radius every upgrade, that is true for all but shard bombs. ( which makes me think that they should change this, maybe add a couple more shards to the 5* ring. ) [subtle on-topic suggestion]
How did you conclude that the 4-star and 5-star items have the same stats? Are you judging them by their damage and speed bars? Those things are notoriously inaccurate. Even when they are "accurate", they give an incomplete description of what the weapon does.
Don't rely on stats. If you want to explore, rely on how they feel. A sword that has bad stats may have a certain way of working out. Kind've like how some people have a lucky weapon or know just by feeling out of 100 other of the same item which one they usually use.
/e Stats are not life, but simply guidelines that set the basics of it, that we may follow or break.
A prisma Driver will deal about 191 damage in Vanaduke.
A nova driver will deal around 209 damage in Vanaduke.
The difference? The charge. Prisma has two extra bullets while nova gets four.
Just like bombs getting bigger blast radii.
Alchemers have more dmg and ricochet
Haze bombs have a larger radius
Master Blast to BAB (Nuff said)
Avenger to DA has better charge
Brandish has more explosions
DTB to BTB; BTB has snarby
DBB is OP against wolvers
WHB is the charge of spam
DR has more orbit bullets
Antigua charge has animals
Compare dmg of strike needle and Blitz
All that I can think of right now
There are other features besides damage.
