A party leader should be able to host an instance of the game on their own computer.

Benefits of this include, but are not limited to:
-Absolutely no lag for the host.
-No need for AU servers, AU people can just host for themselves.
-Drastically reduced server costs for OOO as a lot of work on their servers have been lifted.
-It would be possible for a solo player to pause the game, should they feel the need to do so.
-Did I mention absolutely no lag for the host? This means that the host and a group of close friends can play with the least lag possible, regardless of server status.
-Games would not need to be interrupted for the sake of server maintenance.

eyes trying to see the end to another end

before, start asking some questions:

- how to update the heat/mat/crowns earned on each map?
- if the party leader get any internet issues, the game will be hosted by servers OOO again? and the crowns/mats/heat will be lost?
- in group party, if the leader stand afk and leave, what's happen with the others?
- if one guy of this "private session" wish to go solo...?
- This will not, by some way, open a gateway to a player that can change (with program) how much heat/crowns /mats they acquired at end of the map?

@Zeyez

The answer to all of those is "the same way Warframe is currently handling it".

-Resources gaining could be synched with the game's servers. This could be happening as the resources are gained. Who cares about a little lag in updating your inventory? If the main servers are currently down, the resources are queued up to be synched later.
-The host disconnecting will result in a "host migration". This either means assigning the role of host to a different player or just reverting back to OOO's servers.
-The party members can go solo or be kicked like in regular games. The information about all the loot laying around should already be present on everyone's computers since they received this from the host as it was dropped.
-Warframe does not have any issues with cheaters. They have some kind of tool to deal with them and it seems to be doing the job splendidly.

That means server operations would need to be handled by the Host computer.
These can be intefered with, and people can hack the processes.

Limits could be put up to make things not completely hackable. No threat to the player driven CE and CR market. Which part would be hacked, exactly?

I'd really like to see this for the future. Spiral Knights would, at least in my eyes, greatly benefit from involving the players in more aspects.
Also I'd like to add that there are many games that managed to prevent hacking while still offering comparable options.

Support from me, this may be hard to get coded out though

Heard of packet editing? That's the issue with local hosting. Many games are now trying to prevent hacks, especially packet editing because it is the most common hack to get more money or items.

Not to mention they're literally giving out their server code. Once someone manages to unobfuscate it, they'll have access to detailed monster AI, among pretty much everything else.

my 2 cents

I see enough Thread about lag as it is

If people host there will be 100 Thread daily about lag.

Bad idea, good intention though.

OOO did this for BN and soon changed it because it was unplayable if you aren't near the host.

I'm talking about equipment drop types, health and damage, etc, and even many, many things that aren't even fully implemented into the game yet.
You're obviously not getting my point anyway, so I'll put it like this.

Once you allow people to host their own sub-servers, you open up the possibility for the game to be cracked/hacked. Once that happens, the server can be replicated, people can start playing with the files and creating pirated servers. Players are drawn away from the main server, and trust me, that's the last thing we need: People to stop playing on the official server which earns the developer's money.
