I'm getting a acheron and i want to know whats good and bad about it
it looks cool but can some one tell me a way how to use it properly?
cuz my friend failed using a acheron and died a lot of times
plz tell me
whats good about acheron?
If it goes wrong with Acheron, you're not better off with any other sword. The Brandishes are the most versatile weapons in the game. Insane single target damage, good speed, fast and powerful charges, great crowd control, etc.
I regret making my acheron, frankly. I could have kept it at four stars and never noticed the difference. Mainly because a shadow weapon is useless for the citadel, and the entire reason I would really REQUIRE a five star sword in PvE is entirely the cidtadel. For normal clockwork, you can get by in T3 just from using the proper sword for the job.
Otherwise, it's a fast swinging shadow damage sword with an incredible charge attack. That's really all there is to it. Using it effectively is no different from swinging any other brandish or calibur. Though it does have the bonus of not being absolutely ridiculously stupid looking at five stars like the boat paddles that are called five star swords.
"No different from any other brandish or calibur." Calibur? CALIBUR?! What are you smoking, I want some.
No one can die with an Acheron if they spam charges.
Hell, even if you're fighting zombies, damage would be minimal but they'd be pushed away by the explosion.
It's the 1 of 2 Shadow Swords in the game.
And is by far the fastest of the 2.
Its Charge attack is pretty nifty, and can dispatch groups of Slimes & Gremlins no problem.
However it deals less damage than its Shadow Sword counterpart per hit, and has limited Knockback.
So if you use it while surrounded, you wont have a good time.
Dodge around, use lots of the Charge attacks and you can be your own little Ninja.
was for the minimal point damage increase and due to peer pressure. Though I don't have any regrets I must add that I was ENTIRELY satisfied with how the three star Nightblade performed. Makes a splendid Gremlin stew.
Dementia
I merely meant it's a three swing sword. Nothing is terribly special about it's normal attacks. I wouldn't know why anyone is having trouble with it unless they were being a spazz.
Summary version: Use charge attacks a lot with Acheron. Use for Gremlins and Slimes. Don't use against Undead and Fiend.
==Wall of Text beware==
Firstly understand damage types.
Normal works against everything (red). Piercing works against beasts and fiends but not constructs and slimes (yellow). Elemental works against constructs and undead but not beasts and gremlins (green). Shadow works against slimes and gremlins but not undead and fiends (purple). Forget about split damage at the moment, normal works against everything so you only need to worry about if its yellow, green or purple bars of damage. Acheron does shadow damage.
Like Dementia said, getting a sword based on looks is one of the sillier reasons, at least EARLY on. Once you've established yourself with some viable gear (heck get a leviathan blade and you are fine for most part) you may get anything you want and no one can say a thing. As long as you don't mess up of course.
Do you need a sword for gremlins or slimes? If so, Acheron is good, being one of the two shadow swords you can get. Acheron is also easier to get as its recipes are available in Hall of Heroes unlike gran faust. It has the simple 3-swing combo you should be familar with (remember when you only had a proto sword?) and a powerful charge attack to boot. Overall for levels other than undead or fiends it's a good sword.
What is bad about it? As mentioned it does horrible against undead and fiends, so you might want to get either a piercing or elemental sword for those. The elemental type brandishes are good for that purpose, for the same reasons as mentioned above, only they do well against constructs and undead and not as good for beasts and gremlins. Their charge attacks are arguably superior as they inflict statuses, but that's beside the point.
A couple of things to note: Once you hit Tier 3, or the so called "end game" you'll end up (trust me) grinding a undead based boss dungeon a lot, so you might want to invest in an elemental brandish. I'd suggest a combuster if you prefer blasting enemies to oblivion or setting them on fire (which by the way, fire works fine against non-fire type beasts and gremlins!) or a Glacius if you prefer freezing (careful, enemies frozen in front of you can hit you) them. Alternatively if you do a fair bit of coliseum (aka PVP), get the voltedge, shock is good against undead and is (most probably) the Brandish of choice for the final boss dungeon Firestorm Citadel.
If you do intend to invest in one, the safest method (and arguably most boring but effective) to use it is to repetitively use the charge attacks against the respective families it's good against. It's single slashes then work against the last few bits of enemies who are powerful enough to survive its full blast. If you prefer swinging in general, consider getting Gran Faust instead, but that's another sword for another post.
Remember, Gran Faust causes curse to the TARGET more often than the user, even when NOT charged. And curse is probably the most damaging status in the game, to most enemies. So don't be one of those people saying "boo hoo I can't use GF or I'll die". The upside makes up for it, there's plenty of ways to reduce the pentalties of curse, it deals more damage (and knockback) per swing, in a wider arc, and as I mentioned before, it sometimes curses enemies with the second hit, which has ZERO chance of cursing you.
Comparing Acheron to GF is like comparing Combuster to DA (though with flipped statusing). They're both pretty much equals, just different play styles.
The problem with the Gran Faust charge isn't that it sometimes curses you. The problem with the GF charge is that it's so abysmally slow --- much slower than any other 5-star sword's charge, except for Warmaster Rocket Hammer. By the time your GF finishes charging, there's a good chance that one of your teammates has already killed your target monster.
The real injustice here is that my Vog Cub has an insane curse resistance UV while I have absolutely no intention of using a Gran Faust.
Which is another reason to save the charge for when you really need it. Also CTR uvs/trinkets/gear help a lot.
The sad thing is unless you use the normal swings Gran Faust has absolutely nothing except the curse (arguably projectile flying over gaps and stuff counts) that makes it incentive to use its CHARGE over Acheron's charge. Unless they speed up the charge time, perhaps with curse resistance/extra weapon slots it may be viable, but until then the DPS on Acheron alone will finish off most enemies before your Gran Faust even finishes charging. You'll probably get more damage per second just shield cancelling/combo spamming with Gran Faust.
Also, the curse chance is rather low to even bother with, honestly. Get a damage maximum Gran Faust and tell me how many times have the curse served you more than its swings.
thx for all your suggestions and +1 for Owaoforum for giving me such a detailed information about acheron :)
Getting a weapon just because it looks cool is one of the many ways you can screw yourself over in the game, mmmkay? That being said, our mutual friend Bopp, being the cool guy that he is, has composed a sword guide that should answer all your questions.
