Ok, now you're probably wondering; what's the "Walking Fortress" playstyle, anyway?
Is it like the Guardian? Yes and no. You see, the point of the Guardian class is, ultimately, to
be a big 'ol punching bag, constantly throwing yourself in the way of projectiles aimed
at your strikers, gunslingers and other more useful and important classes. Sort of like
any of the "defender" classes, except less specialized.

The title "Walking Fortress" is a bit deceptive at first. The point isn't to be a fortress
in and of yourself, but to form a "fortress" of sorts, a stronghold area, a safe haven for
both your teammates and yourself. The really exciting part is that you don't have to
enjoy pain to pull off this playstyle; a good enough Walking Fortress could get by
with the default armor you get at the beginning of the game.

So, how do you accomplish these things? Knockback, of course! Knockback
is your friend. It forces those rude monsters to get out of your face and keep their
distance, which is the central pillar of the Walking Fortress playstyle, as it allows you
to form a 1-man line of defense which is hard for most monsters to break through.
In effect, you create a makeshift "wall", or fortress, in which your teammates can
snipe monsters, heal up, or tremble in fear while screaming unintelligible gibberish.

Recomended weapons for this playstyle:

- Troika-series swords.
- Pulsars.
- Blast bombs.

Since the whole idea is to keep monsters away, it doesn't really matter what armor you use.
However, since you're going to need to get up-close and personal if enemies get too close to use
your pulsar/bomb on, it's still, as always, a good idea to equip sturdy armor.

Now, for a list of simple strategies to keep you started:

The Corner Huddle: The great thing about the corner huddle is that it's pretty
much usable at any time: every room has a corner in it. Get up in the corner
and pull out your pulsar. Spam shots all over, in as wide a radius as needed.
Most small, weak monsters will be thwarted by this.

The Hallway Gate: If forced into a hallway, you can pull off an even more
effective version of the corner huddle method. Just fire your pulsar forward.
The only monsters which will be able to get through are those which are
basically resistant to knockback.

Your troika-line sword will also make an effective gate for small monsters.
In fact, if you're trying to advance through the hallway, that's the better
strategy.

Redirecting the unavaidable: Ok. Your striker is in a small offshoot of the room.
Suddenly, a dreadnaught gets ready to charge into the narrow space and beat the
living daylights out of your helpless striker, whos swiftstrike buckler could never
take the full impact of the charge. Well, charge up your troika; it's time for the
last-ditch attempt. As the dreadnaught charges by, aim your charged smash
at his side. Even a huge mosnter such as him will take decent knockback from
such a mighty hit. Try to knock him to the side, so that he misses the enterance.
If nothing else, try to hit him from behind to stun him and stall for time.

The problem with using blast bombs and such to create a safe area, is that most of the time your party just doesn't get the idea of running into the explosion to stay safe as enemies are flung outward, and ends up considering you to be a nuisance.

And to some extent that's what you become with this, flinging enemies into their face.

You could argue that getting more experienced players is the key to pulling it off, and you're absolutely correct. Getting someone with experience doing this will make it work to some degree, but by the time they're good enough to work with this, they're probably good enough to beat everything with shard bombs and winmillion anyway.

Fun? Yes
Viable? Not really

I had the opposite

I had the opposite impression, since it looks easier than the timing and sense of positioning required to use a Troika or Pulsegun defensively; just set up camp somewhere convenient and spam the magic bubble of safety. I can totes understand not intuitively seeing the explosionfest as a safe place, especially if coming from a Bomberman background, but if some one says, "Imma stay in this predictable place and maintain a magic bubble of safety for every one!" and any one else still fails to get the idea, the problem IMO is not with the unintuitiveness of the technique.
