Hiya! I'm making stuff for a certain SK fan game. I just recently made my first model, (a trash can) and now I'm thinking of what I should make next. While it may or may not be a SK thing, I do hope to get to those eventually.

So why am I making a thread? Well, I want to know what you guys would like to see. While at the moment it will be simple, I want to work up to making harder stuff. This is for suggestions, not requests. I won't charge any CE/cr, nor can I make any promises to what I'll make. Anything I make here won't necessarily make it into the fan game, especially my earlier works. (They will probably be replaced or polished a lot.) The goal for me is to get some ideas and possibly get some of my creations judged. The goal of the models which will get into the fan game will be somewhere around the SK quality, but possibly more rounded at some areas. I'm not really sure yet. :S

All that said, fire away! Please don't suggest any live characters (I.e. Zombies, Knights, Gremlins), armors, helmets, etc. Maybe...materials, some simple weapons, or a few accessories? Idk, anything you want as long as it isn't too complex.

EDIT: Heh, while I'm not expecting anything at all, go ahead and link to your own thread if you like. (Though so far I've only seen one person do a 3D model for Spiral Knights.)

Fan Game? Wow, thought my guild was the only one working on that. May I ask for some info on it?
Also I'd like you to do a Cautery Sword :>

The fan game is called "Cradlebound", and there are 2 threads so far with stuff about it. However, that's mostly outdated...I'm going to reveal more about it later this Summer!

Cautery Sword? Yay good idea! I didn't think of that. xD

Of course, my first SK model may be a mat...but my first sword will be Cautery!

Red shards!

My version! (And yes, that is really transparency.) Yes, I'll figure out how to make it look more, eh, roughed up, so to speak. And maybe less sharp, depending.

I'll get to a Torch Stone after tweaking with this one some more.

EDIT: Oh, and while I was at it, I made all the colors. I want to know, did I get the colors right?

Shard colors

The models look nice! The colors are pretty good, but I think they would be a bit more accurate if they were more saturated. While all of them could use some additional saturation, I think the green shard stands out as the most muted.

I didn't get a chance to work on it for a while because the start of summer has been much more hectic than I thought it would be. O.o

Though I haven't worked on it very much in the way of the model, I have tweaked with the colors, hopefully to make them more saturated. I'm also going to be removing the current cracked stuff because it adds more verticies. I'm going to instead make a texture and overlay that...once I figure out how to.

The 3 possible first animated characters are a devilite, a spookat, and a snipe. All because they are simple and cute. :3 Not there yet, but just saying.

It looks like a harmless cube...but it's a lot tastier than that...

OHMY-

GLORP

The animated picture was just glorped up.

Okay, if you want to know what this means...

  • I am sorta jumping the gun here and going straight to the Jelly Cube. I want practice animating.
  • It's sorta worthless making models of materials when SK doesn't have any. The time used on the mats could be used better.
  • That Jelly Cube IS NOT the final standing position, and merely the basic position. Though you can't see it, that cube has been cut up in sections and each section may deform individually. It should make the animation process easier when it starts with a very simple position.
  • It's on my todo list to nag my bro to teach me some of his animation and modeling skills. They're rad. (Those are only simple because he created them to fit a theme. He has more advanced work which isn't up on the internet, and I'm not going to nag him for pics of it.)

EDIT: Though I'm too lazy to update the picture, I've made it look much more shiny and reflective. Not metallic, but shiny. This makes it look much more...slimy? Liquidy? idk.

Taaa-daaa!!

The first picture is a simple pose. The second is the picture of the skeleton. Yes, my jelly cubes have skeletons. xD

The top-most bone (Bones are the triangular things with spheres at the ends.) is the root bone, which moves the whole thing. While this may not be needed often, because in a game the cube should stay still (in a technical animation sense), I've included it anyway in case I'm wrong. Because the edit view doesn't show transparency, it's hard to tell that the big bone in the middle is in control of the gel core.

I'm going to try adjusting the model a bit so that the edges look a bit more beveled and slimy. This is also a check to see if editing the model after rigging will be work correctly. After that, I'll figure out how to make it squish, animation-wise!

Nice. Quick side note,

Nice. Quick side note, though; Jelly Cubes don't stay still while they move. They sort of jiggle themselves toward you, like an inchworm. This may not be what you meant the root bone for though, I don't really know much about CGI.

Will this game be very similar to SK? Is it single player or multiplayer? What about crafting and the combat system?
Will there be new monstor types? I'm looking forward to see how this fan game turns out, while I suck at programming and only have medicore artistic skills I do hope I can beta test or at least try out some demos.

Hope this comes out soon!

Hmm, yes I've noticed their jiggliness. :P

Well, what I think will happen is, during the movement, the jelly's bounding box will be moving, which the cube will be stuck to.* When the root bone moves, the cube might actually leave its bounding box. However, it may be handy having the root bone if I ever want such an offset, or if I need it for a cinema sequence.

*The Blender term would be Parenting. The cube would be parented to the bounding box. The cube could move on its own, but whenever the bounding box moves, the cube must move in the same way. (With some exceptions) This is why the knights run in place instead of move when you look at their running animation in Spiral Spy. The game, not the animations, manages the actual movement.

@Soulstaker

I'll keep it quick. This is a thread for models, so this is wandering off topic.

Will this game be very similar to SK?
Not necessarily. It will be turnbased RPG and puzzle game, being loosely based on the Earthbound and Final Fantasy game play, but with many alterations. There will not be random encounters, being replaced with manipulated encounters. More on that later. I intend on adding puzzles to the mix, though I have no clue how puzzle based the game will be.

Is it single player or multiplayer?
I'm considering a single computer or LAN multiplayer, but probably nothing involving cross-the-world or MMO-like because that would require a server, which I don't have the ability nor funding to get at this time. So, for the most part, single player.

What about crafting and the combat system?
Crafting will hold some similarity, as it will use materials and orbs. However, I won't expand on it largely and a moderate portion of gear will still be purchasable. Each character will have their own level instead of gear, but I may change this later. Heat Crystals aren't a part of the original design, and I'm not going to include the forge. They may still appear, though.

The battles are turn based and involve a few time-based elements, such as rolling HP. I intend on using what I call manipulated encounters for determining when non-plot driven battles happen. This means spawning enemies in the over world in mostly random amounts and positions. Fights start when you make contact with an enemy. Before the battle starts, other enemies in the area will have a chance to run to you so that they can join the fight.

When bumping into an enemy so that you face each other, the fight will start normally. When touching them from behind, you will get a free turn. This works both ways, so watch your back! Some crafty enemies will try to use this to their advantage, so you'll see Wolvers jumping behind you and Gremlins trying to sneak up on you.

Battle Sprites will be AI controlled allies which can die. I haven't thought of much at all for them, so this is all I can say at the time.

Will there be new monstor types?
Tee hee hee....SPOILER TIME!

Something happened.

That's the spoiler. No kidding.

I'm looking forward to see how this fan game turns out, while I suck at programming and only have medicore artistic skills I do hope I can beta test or at least try out some demos.
Ha ha while some of the cutting edge versions will probably not be publicly distributed, many other versions will be. I also hope to make a system to allow it to be easy for non-technical or artistic minded people to help out with something. I will be using Unity, which doesn't need programming for some things. (Though I don't know all about it yet.)

Hope this comes out soon!
Um...I'm just starting! :o

It has been, but only in the design stage... >.<

As matter of fact, still in the design stage. But I want to get some things made. I've been wanting to do this for about a year now.
