And Thus Began the Dark Ages

A time has befallen us, a terrible time. OOO no longer caring for our cries of dismay. Haven, empty, except for a few wanderers. The fountain is drained, the AH broken down. The snipes are gone. Veteran players abandoned the mission left and right. A few remained, but the ones that did, grew vicious and sour. No one partied up anymore, it was every man for himself. Supplies stopped being sent, the only items we received were cosmetic. No new weapon or armour shipments ever rolled in. All hope is lost.

(It probably wont be as bad as i'm making it out to be, but some bad changes might be coming our way)

I've been reading threads like this for over two years. Every major change to the game comes with gigantic complaining. Sometimes the complaints have merit, but the merit is lost in a sea of crazy exaggeration.

Is this the right place to suggest Devs to take out the trading system from the game?

When patience reaches its limit, things get pretty bad :)

I bet the majority of the people agree with me that each new update is worse than the last..

Ive been here almost since the beginning. All was calm and sweet, even after I reached end-game, where I got into the LD groove. Then I see updates like UI and random monster nerfs coming... I complained a lot and saw it got me nowhere.. Then this update which might just be 20 times worse than the UI update, comes along and knocks on my door >:O

Guess what? Idc anymore, this game is done for :P

SO, might as well troll around hehehe... (Dont tell me to emphasize things I dont like and value the things that I might.. tried it with countless new UI threads, and it failed.)

Yep, that's exactly what I've been reading for over two years.

Around May 2011, there was an update that made items bind on crafting. So you could no longer sell 4-star and 5-star items that you'd just crafted. This was a massive change to the game economy. Also, the price of crafting was increased (500 energy to 800 energy, for 5-star). The game was announced dead by countless people...

I would like to make a post or thread, but I think I'll calm myself a bit before posting.

And if you were there at that

@Bopp

And if you were there at that time, you would have known the game would have died if it wasn't for the steam launch. It was completely deserted.

Right now, the game is very fragile, the population has been going down slowly over two years and nothing was done to prevent this, on the contrary, useless and irritating updates were imposed to us despite massive rants. You are speaking like if games never die? Well, countless games have died before. This update, if it is made, will be yet another bite in the community, and a huge one at that, so yeah, the game won't die just because of it, but it's all about how many extra bites this game can take now. In my guess, not many.

If only the test server was open to everyone...

50% of complainers don't know what's going on, 40% complain because others are complaining. Only 10% have tried the changes firsthand and found verificable concerns.

just skeptical

I was there at the time. It's certainly true that the Steam launch brought in many new players (many of whom didn't stick around). I disagree with the statement that the game was "completely deserted". It seemed just as lively to me after that update as before it. Of course, I could be convinced otherwise by data.

These forums are a big "echo chamber", where unhappy players get their complaints confirmed by other unhappy players. I'm always skeptical about whether the forums represent the wider community. The wider community seems excited about battle sprites. They may be leery of, and ultimately unhappy with, the changes to crafting and reviving. Three Rings has assured us that the changes do not make the game more "expensive" to play, on average. We'll see whether that's true.

If all of this threads would be true, this game would have been dead since like 1 or 2 years ago.

Try harder.

I would post something more on-topic, but I won't since this thread will probably get locked in a few hours anyway.

It truly doesn't. Remember that in every group of people, there will be people who love to complain. People who love to complain love to be heard.
Therefore, there seems to be more people who complain than there are people who don't. Which is false.

That wonderful Smile is gone for Eternity

Will the in-the-dark additions kill the game? I doubt it. Will it contribute to the game's death? Most likely.

If only the test server was open to everyone

It is, just not the type of "Everyone" that would be constructive in a wider radius.

There were some datas, I remember someone was gathering datas on players frequenting the arcade for months, which at that time was the only way to get an idea of the overall population. But then couldn't find the thread...I will hand it to you once I manage to deter it.

Now with Steam, even if it doesn't represent all the players, you can get the tendacies of the population, and it is absolutely going down since september 2011, although slowly. I don't take in consideration the first three months after the steam launch which had a massive decrease in players, as you mentioned it, steam players just tryed the game left and right because it was free and new. So there is an issue there, and the game is not immuned, far from that, I would say it is in a delicate situation.

As for the Battle Sprites, they aren't the issue, I was talking about the the new reviving system and the loot collection changes. This is a terrible idea, and it will hurt the game if it's implemented. But hopefully this time, devs will listen to the feedback.

@The-Frying-Pan
That the population would decrease slowly over time is a given. No game is immune to this. To prove your point, please provide data correlating the 'useless and irritating updates' with immediate drops in game population.

Are we talking here about that newfangled update in the testing server that they said we aren't supposed to talk about so no one will say bad things about it?

The big problem about this update

is really everything but sprites. Preety much 40 percent of veteran players are quiting now, all because of this update. If you look into the graveyard, there are about 7 or 8 threads concerning the same topic, all of them locked.

You people act like this patch has already gone into effect and will not be changed whatsoever...

If people are rage-quiting before the patch is even FINISHED, then GTFO you misanthropes and don't bother coming back.

I had to google "misanthropes" and find out wha- oh wait.

I was kinda mad at first when I heard about crafting system about to break. Then I heard some... *spoilers*, and I got excited again and decided to stay. Then suddenly something happened when I found out you could only... something, and went back to normal going "Oh, just another normal SK patch. Nothing to worry about~"

@Bopp To prevent annoying

@Bopp To prevent annoying comment like yours, is exactly why I told you I kept my patience even through the bad UI update. This new update is going too far.

@Hexzyle Yes you could not be MORE right.. The game is obviously as popular as it was a year ago. All the people who have quit AND all the people who come back only for events TOTALLY do not exist. The complainers are TOTALLY blowing it out of proportion {{-Facepalm-}}

The developers know what they are doing

These are good changes, and are necessary for the future. Say what you want, but you'll keep playing. These new items are a great way for players to make a little extra loot each run, and let's face it you guys needed some extra motivation to not be total blobs each run. Alot of players don't prioritize survival and maybe with elite mode lowering drop rate of health and with the new revive system, you would depend on your teammates more than usual.

It's a necessary evil to promote what we didn't have before: a reliance on teamwork.

Neo, I am sorry but "we"

Neo, I am sorry but "we" "pro" players have evolved from our mistakes of joining random parties.. we only invite capable people to our parties to ensure fast and smooth runs. I am sorry this part of the update to support the newer people and screwing over rich, veteran players who constantly make new gear.. is just.. gah wtf r the devs thinking.

More like this will improve OOO's profit on CE revs, not the teamwork which will probably be the same as always but handicapped and with way more rage inducing deaths.

@Neo

The forever happy forumers always make me smile, they will defend every update no matter what, with clumsy reasoning, the new rev system is favouring teamwork? Really? We had the perfect system for teamwork already, now with this update, people will just ignore dead bodies even more, people were already reluctant to revive others even when they had full health, what do you think is gonna happen when they will have to buy energy to revive dead players? This update will introduce a farwest fest, if you die, you pay, don't rely on others, it's everyman for himself now, or just be good, oh you're new? Too bad! We no like newcomers and discourage them, that's our strategy here at OOO, we so smart.

All this combined with the loot collection will make everyone go solo or guild run, THIS UPDATE WILL ACTUALLY KILL THE VERY LITTLE TEAMWORK WE STILL HAD.

No-Thanks
wow lol

when i read the OP i just enjoyed the style of writing and took it as a good joke

who would have THOUGHT how serious people would take this thread xD

could write alot meaningless stuff, but ima just put tiny bit of actual -facts- here

-
i check on 4 mediocre mmos every now and then, every 1 of them is put in a bad light by each of their communities(FYI I LIKE THESE GAMES!!!)

while 2 mmos are terribly boring and i find the complaints about them reasonable(i do like the games and wish i could enjoy them again!!!), the other 2 mmos are still fun to play. but that doesnt and probably wont ever stop ppl from badmouthing them and their devs lol
-

still the OP is hillarious, could make a comic out of it =D
actually make an animation, if i happen to motivate any1(lol)

My thoughts

Traevelliath, you are playing the optimistic guy who thinks OOO will alter this update. I'll just ask you something: after all the whines about the U.I. update, can you please point out to me what got changed due to the request of the community?

I'll also say this: OOO hid energy and crowns because they thought it encouraged a linear feel of this game. And yet now layers basically HAVE to progress through the linear missions to get better stuff. When I created my first character, way back, I upped all 10 of my bombs to 4* before even starting on upgrading my demo suit. I will no longer be able to do stuff like that because OOO has introduced forced linearness.

I'll post more later.
