This thread is posted mainly foy my guild members' information, especially freshmen on Spiral Knights or low rank players, but any better suggestions are still highly appreciated.

Please be noted that the content below are only for general players who adventure without the elevator pass and have no help from other players, which means you can make it faster if you have good friends.
In addition, since it possibly takes more time and crowns to get recipes by Krogmo coins from Coliseum, that is excluded from this thread.
However, currently 5-Star gears are not required by the official setting to join a FSC party, but it will be more helpful and easier to be accepted by random parties.

Ponit 1
Save 7250CE & 244500CR!!!
They are exactly how much you have to pay for one 5-Star gear set, including recipes and crafting cost of 2 weapons, 1 helm, 1 armor and 1 shield, without considering the related materials.
Of course you can use mist instead of some CE, but would you wait? (about 13 minutes to generate 1CE.....)
Spiral Knights wiki - Crafting

Point 2
Get recipes!!!
Once you get the access to Hall of Heroes(Rank Mission 8-2), you can buy enough 5-Star recipes there. Basil on 23 depth in Arcade sometimes sells these recipes as well, but it's chancier.
My personal recommended items from Hall of Heroes are as below:

  • Weapon 1: Blitz Needle
  • Weapon 2: Combuster / Argent Peacemaker / Some Bombs
  • Helm: Vog Cub Cap
  • Armor: Vog Cub Coat
  • Shield: Grey Owlite Shield / Volcanic Plate Shield

Point 3
Watch demonstrative videos!!!
By watching demonstrative videos, you will have some common sense about how to do FSC.

Point 4
Practice controlling skills!!!
Maybe you will have nice and experienced teammates, but it is still awful to be killed tons times....

In fact, the most important thing is not within the above mentioned. Being Nice & Polite is the key point and shortcut to bring you to FSC! Therefore, besides of working on heat and crowns, please remember to work on interpersonal relationship as well!

I don't want to be mean, but aren't the first 2 topics kind of obvious?
Save money and craft the armor.

Also:
"Save 7250CE & 244500CR!!!"
"Of course you can use mist instead of some CE, but would you wait? (about 13 minutes to generate 1CE.....)"

This assumes you'll craft the whole 5* set right away in one go. You could make it pice by piece every time you get the money.

Thanks for your comments, and I agree with you that first 2 suggestions are obvious. Even all 4 suggestions are OBVIOUS.
In fact, however, what I really wanted to say was in the last paragraph, which is obvious as well but many players don't behave that way
Regarding the mist, if they don't buy the elevator pass, they probably use up the mist to farm crowns, and paying all amount by CE might save them some time, such as having 700CE and 15K crowns on hand without any mist.
By the way, you are not mean. No worries!

Recommend BTS and/or SSB instead. Otherwise they will have to adjust to not shielding as soon as an enemy is within range later on.

Thanks. I listed BTS, although it's less helpful on defense.
SSB seems fitting experienced players, so I don't recommend.

I just thought that...

Those 2 are the only shields one will use eventually.

I agree with the above. Only

I agree with the above. Only recommend SSB and BTS. I only recommend defensive shields for shadow lairs. I would also recommend Skolver instead because the higher damage will mean that monsters will actually flinch when you charge attack them with a brandish. What you have listed there is a defensive build. There's nothing wrong with that, but playing offensive is just as well and becomes the best playstyle when you've learned to dodge, which you'll need to do with a SSB anyway.

I would also remove the Levi recommendation because most people misuse it like crazy. That is the most annoying sword in PVE hands down. I'd only recommend combuster because it's far higher DPS than the glacius, even in FSC because the zombies will ride all five blasts. Also, freeze makes you more likely to freeze an attacking zombie so it can hit you right after you attack.

Advise them that having multiple four star items is far better than one five star and one three star, unless it's with Skolver because of the offensive buff.

I get what you mean with damage bonus, but skolver isn't a great pick... wait a minute... Are you saying Vog is defensive?

If you want to recommend an offencive set, recommend chaos. But I don't recommend chaos to new players.

HoH based recipes

I almost forgot this thread is HoH based, so I would make the above content fixed.
If anyone is interested in this topic, I believe they will read the following replies.
Thanks again.

I find it very stupid to convert all your gear to 5* at once. It is much better to go piece by piece, there are literally no pros to doing this unless you count the feeling of crafting all your 5* at once, which is a nice feeling but not nearly enough to the absurd amount of cons.
For example, what would you prefer having when you're farming for your last three pieces of 5* gear?
These:
Ash tail cap
Ash tail coat
Blizzbrand
Strike Needle
Electron Bomb/Freezing Atomizer
Dark Thorn Shield

or these:

Vog cub cap
Ash tail coat
Glacius
Strike Needle
Electron vortex/Shivermist buster
Dark thorn shield

Which would you like when you're farming for those last few pieces? Plus, heating is made much easier when heating piece by piece, and it'll take ages to heat a full 5* set.
Also, even when you're new, you really don't need any more defense then a BTS for FSC. Though I don't really recommend it for newbies going into FSC, Swiftstrike buckler is great as well, though you'll definitely want to be using BTS with ease before trying this out.
The only content you might need a "real" shield for are shadow lairs/danger missions, but if you're experienced at BTS can be used with ease there as well.

Also, once you get your 5* set (recommended vog/skolver mix or full vog if you're doing KoA), if you start doing FSC easily then you might want to try getting one piece of chaos (if possible with a fire med or higher UV), and if you can still do FSC easily enough then try going for the full chaos set.

"Suggestion 2"

1. Blitz is hard and dangerous to use if you haven't practised. ("low rank players")
2. Gun (why not bomb?): Argent Peacemaker is fast, very easy to use and deals decent damage but Alchemers (all except Magma Driver because Fire is useless in FSC) outdamage AP if used right.
Armor and Helm: Why only Vog Cub? Why everyone has to be Striker? (don't take me wrong, but Striker+Wolver set=Clone). If a knight uses guns or bombs mostly, Vog Cub is a nice set BUT there are other armors outclassing it. You might add them (if you want, of course): Volcanic Demo (helm and suit) - same as Vog Cub but has bomb CTR instead of sword ASI; Shadowsun (slicker and stetson) - has Shadow defence (instead of Vog's elemental), Poison resistance (instead of Vog's Fire resist) and handgun Dmg. bonus (instead of sword ASI); Deadshot (mantle and chapeau) - has Shadow defence too, Curse resistance, handgun ASI and universal Dmg. bonus vs Undead (bonus for swords, guns and bombs).
