I was trying out the battle sprites but once i use the attack once, every cool down time it will automatically attack again. I know its not the keyboard because every time i open settings it will stop doing the automatic attack.. please help i don`t want to it automatically attack.
battle spirtes Automatic attack?
Same thing here, my spirte none stop attacking and wasting all my fun now that I have no control on it.
Plz Three Rings, can you fix that bug for our fun?
Not everyone is receiving this issue, but there are multiple accounts of this occurring.
I have been able to reproduce this successfully by pressing an unbound key during a skill's cooldown - this causes the Sprite to automatically unleash that skill at the next possible opportunity. Opening the Esc menu is able to stop it, but it is very annoying and causes major trouble for Battle Sprite gameplay via controller, as I suppose non-(assigned)keyboard 'inputs' get sent through and basically makes it so the Sprite will always do this automatic cast looping when playing with a controller.
Same here,
I dont press anything yet, sprite is releasing his attack as soon as cooldown is over
This auto attack bug occurs when you hit the attack button while the skill is on a cooldown.
Hit it five times and the next 5 times its cool down is over it'll auto fire.
Devs dropped the ball on testing...
my drakon keeps on shooting like no tomorrow its annoying
We're looking into the problem of overactive sprites, but if you could provide us with some more information first it would be a big help.
Could you please post the following:
- Are you using an analog input for a sprite attack, like an analog stick or trigger on a game pad.
- If you are using a keyboard/mouse do you happen to have any other input device plugged in?
- All the keys currently bound to your sprite skills.
- If you are pressing another key during cooldown to get the auto-attack effect, what key is that?
Thanks for helping us squash this bug!
I to am having this problem although i only pressed the skill button once, It just keeps repeating the last attack it did for a random number of times.
The bug seemed to fix itself though when i went down another lair in the clockworks.
It happened to me in the vanna mission in the chard court, and its annoying if you cant choose which skill you want to use because its constantly spamming the skill for you.
I think the sprites are a little too spunky right now, maybe some battle sprite catnip made it into the gears instead of the usual snipe?
Edit:
1) No analog input is plugged in
2) the only device plugged in is a wireless mouse (but sprite keys are not bound to mouse controls)
3) Sprite attacks are bound to Z, X, and C in that order.
Hope that helps Helios.
1) N/A analog input
2) Keyboard/mouse yes; mouse aside, only another USB is being used (I have tested phone, none, external HD, issue is unchanging)
3) My testing has been with the Sprite skills bound to the 1-2-3 keys (non-numpad), respectively
4) I'm able to press any key that is not assigned to an action in SK to get the automated skill effect (I can also press said key just once [nothing else] and press it at any time during the cooldown)
Opening the Esc menu still stops the Sprite, but on a related note...
There's been some minor word of this issue happening with the Knight-based skills (Shield Bash, Dash). Esc menu was said to have not stopped it so it required a restart of the game to get rid of it. Hopefully that might affirm any ideas of where the problem may lie for you folks.
Thank you all for looking into this swiftly.
1) no analog input?
2) not using keyboard/mouse, using a wireless controller - plugin with USB and have never had any problems using it with games on my computer or spiral knights for that matter. (on laptop when i play)
3) I don't press anything other then the key to fire ounce and then I'll just keep firing away after that for no reason when "cool down" ends and the only thing I found that would stop it is changing depths or opening chat box [(which is on the keyboard for me (enter) (and then I close it since I'm in the middle of battle, but just opening it stops the battle spirit from auto firing again)].
No Analog
Just keyboard and mouse
a for first, w for second, q for third skill
None I've been aware of, since don't realize it's gonna loop until after 10-40 second cooldown already finished.
Happens to me too
The only thing I have plugged in to my laptop is the power cable and a mouse.
Z X C
Sorry I can't tell you under what circumstances it activates
Well at least Helios cared to look into and reply to this post. Even my Sprite seems to repeatedly use the cloak without me canceling it out by pressing esc.
1) No game pads or analogue sticks are used.
2) Other than my mouse and power input nothing else is plugged in.
3) Key 1 :- 1, 2, 3
Key 2 :- R, F, C
4) Well during cool down of skills is when I attack and I prefer to attack with the Z key and shield with X. Other than these keys nothing else.
Really hoping all this input from players helps the devs clear up this situation ASAP.
Same thing as them above.. Did not touch keyboard/mouse and just stood there waiting for the timer to count down... and when timer reached 0, skill autoactivated without me pressing any button :P
Kinda irritating and caused death quite a few times.. Was shielding and suddenly the skill animation * shield interrupted * *dies*
1) No game pads or analogue sticks
2) mouse and keyboard
3) r,t,y
4) Using mouse/keyboard... so if i were to press a key, would either be wsad / mouse1/mouse 2
kinda weird cos not everyone seems to have the bug..
1. Are you using an analog input for a sprite attack, like an analog stick or trigger on a game pad.
- No
2. If you are using a keyboard/mouse do you happen to have any other input device plugged in?
- Laptop keyboard + USB mouse, nothing else
3. All the keys currently bound to your sprite skills.
- 1st attack - z
- 2nd attack - x
- 3rd attack - c
4. If you are pressing another key during cooldown to get the auto-attack effect, what key is that?
- its either W,S,A,D as movement, left shift as sprite/dash or RMB attack and LMB shield
I have it too. :/
It could be usefull, but... rather annoying, because;
1. I can't choose skill.
2. It brokes my animation. When i want to attack or defend, it stole my time and exposes on hit! I already died one time because of this and i don't want anymore.
BUT I FOUND SMALL SOLUTION - how to chose other skill to spam (Sometimes works).
1. When cooldown goes to end charge your weapon.
2. Spam button of skill what you want sprite spam when relasing charge.
3. Theres some chances sprite will choose other skill.
@Helios
"Are you using an analog input for a sprite attack, like an analog stick or trigger on a game pad.
All the keys currently bound to your sprite skills."
I use that key schemes:
Skill 1: Middle mouse button
Skill 2: V
Skill 3: B
No chances they re broken, or something, cuz i tested on two machines, two control schemes.
"If you are using a keyboard/mouse do you happen to have any other input device plugged in?"
I have pad, but SK is not adjusted for it.
As I said, i tested it on laptop (with not plugs). It had that problem too.
"If you are pressing another key during cooldown to get the auto-attack effect, what key is that?"
I usually walked when that happen (WASD, left mouse) but i didn't checked it works when i didn't touch anything.
Might have found out why they're autocasting. Don't spam the skill button. Too much input = repeating skills
editdeded: I've been ninja'd.
When solo, my knight only points and i need to press the button 1-3 time for my BS to attack. when i have 1 teammate, 3-5 time, 2-3 teammates, 10-forever time.
So yeah, i cant use BS when i have 2-3 teammate, but after my BS attack, my BS keep attacking endlessly after cooldown.
The pointing problem (knight only points but endlessly until BS attack after the first attack and the first cooldown) always ruin my tactics.
It always delay my shield, attack, so my knight keep pointing until my BS do what my knight (not me) want.
@Helios
1. No analog input
2. Keyboard and mouse
3. G, H, J
4. Action (RMB), Movement (AWSD), changing weps (Q, E, Space), and vials (1, 2, 3, 4), and more.
Qwote might be right, anways game shouldnt remember key strokes while cooldown is active, instead it should ignore them.
It's an old keyboard event type bug. Nothing new. This class of bug has been around in SK since the start.
Edit: To settle the rage below, I mean class of bug, this bug may be induced by the same bug, but it possibly could be from a different root cause. Sticky or glitchy auto-firing keys is nothing new.
@ Grantgalitz let me guess, it dates back to the beta right?
It's new from the battle sprite patch... not from before...
The sprites keep attacking, regardless of what you do...
Ever get a sticky key that won't "unstick" in chat and it only happens with SK? Ever dash onto the party button at D28 vana as the last person to get on and dash gets stuck on auto-fire? Ever get that random button that glitches out in sk for minutes at a time? yeah
@ Grangalitz I know the difference between a key stuck and an in-game bug
Ever dash onto the party button at D28 vana as the last person to get on and dash gets stuck on auto-fire?
Dashed too many times on it and it never happened...
Ever get that random button that glitches out in sk for minutes at a time?
Nope, as a matter of fact I never did... been playing since July 2011... the only time I had any problem with keyboard was with BN starts, and the lagfest that was going on there...
I have 3 friends who this has happened to them and I talk to 2 of them on a daily basis. They don't have a keyboard with a key that is stuck. You are just ignorant or trolling
> Dashed too many times on it and it never happened...
Well it happened to me, and it was 100% reproducible. Should clarify you need to angle yourself and make the distance between the far edge of the gate and you right before the button as small as possible so the gate "interrupts" you. Spamming dash after "fixes" it from staying stuck on.
> Nope, as a matter of fact I never did... been playing since July 2011... the only time I had any problem with keyboard was with BN starts, and the lagfest that was going on there...
A bunch of people I know would beg to differ.
> I have 3 friends who this has happened to them and I talk to 2 of them on a daily basis. They don't have a keyboard with a key that is stuck. You are just ignorant or trolling
I think you might be the ignorant one for thinking every OS/hardware combination works the same. There are race conditions and underlying driver + OS<->JVM handling differences per system. Just because it hasn't happened to you or immediately around you doesn't mean it doesn't happen to others.

People that played 3000+ hours and that suddenly have a problem after a patch comes up?
yeah it's their OS and their hardware they didn't change that is at fault, obviously...
*rollseye*
Funny, because I've yet to encounter the sprite auto-fire bug.
> yeah it's their OS and their hardware they didn't change that is at fault, obviously... *rollseye*
Uh, you do know that race conditions and OS dependent API bugs happen, right? A thread being bottlenecked and glitching out because the CPU isn't fast enough, a specific bug unique to the OpenGL implementation on the host system, or a JVM keyboard API quirk can happen.
Rare edge cases can happen more for others depending on the runtime environment, so it might happen once in your entire gameplay of SK, while happening to others almost daily.
You're responding to a person with 4 digit hours as well and has experienced these bugs for a long time.
You are talking to a person with 4 digit hours as well as troubleshooting experience in networking and repairing common user PC
Yes, those can happen. What would trigger those race conditions? You know the answer...
> You are talking to a person with 4 digit hours as well as troubleshooting experience in networking and repairing common user PC
So basically a normal person who knows their way around the computer? I know how to trouble shoot networking and build a generic pc from parts as well, welcome to the non-special club.
> Yes, those can happen. What would trigger those race conditions? You know the answer...
Old bugs in the game that don't guard properly for event bottlenecks and glitch out more when the CPU power is low causing the event queue in the host's JVM to pile up and initiate the bug? You do know there's an entire event queue stack the OS and VM implementations keep and monitor, the keyboard sticky events can be OS/hardware specific due to the pile up nature being unique to certain conditions and computers. My thought here is the APIs SK is interfacing with experience event queue lag causing the said api to pop a few events out so in order to not overflow.
Probably should stop continuing this and simply have people post what OS and JVM is being used. For instance, I'm on a mac, and I know another mac user who gets glitchy keys (and has been) for a long time. I know windows sk gamers who don't get this though.
"Ever get a sticky key that won't "unstick" in chat and it only happens with SK? Ever dash onto the party button at D28 vana as the last person to get on and dash gets stuck on auto-fire? Ever get that random button that glitches out in sk for minutes at a time? yeah"
Nope, never. Problem started only with battle sprite attack getting stuck.
> Nope, never. Problem started only with battle sprite attack getting stuck.
Which makes me feel the odd man out, as it's been a persistent problem that's happened every month since I started playing. People have been reporting more lag though by word of mouth in the game, so maybe added lag could be triggering the condition for the glitching in more computers.
Has nobody else tried using chat and had one letter get pressed to infinity for minutes at a time? I think I'm taking crazy pills when people tell me the button glitching is new >:(
Let's keep on track with actually trying to find reliable reproduction methods.
The reports have been helpful. We've got a lead on using Mouse 4 to trigger skill 3 and get skill 1 stuck (eh?). This is with no keyboard input at all, so any relation to previous repeat bugs is currently on shaky ground. Keep the details coming because I'll be here, begging my sprite to misbehave by only using keyboard input.
1) using keyboard
2) nope
3) left shift (mod) + right click, E, and F
4) might've been holding down shield (space) right after executing the skill to avoid damage
Are you using an analog input for a sprite attack, like an analog stick or trigger on a game pad.
No
If you are using a keyboard/mouse do you happen to have any other input device plugged in?
I have a wacom tablet plugged in
Q and E
If you are pressing another key during cooldown to get the auto-attack effect, what key is that?
I've had the sprite attacking interrupt me trying to swing and gotten smacked for it, sometimes while the auto attack bug is happening I have also gotten stuck shielding which may or may not be related to the sprite attack spamming. (I have shield set to left mouse, attack set to right mouse).
I've had it happen on two occasions so far, both in area's with quite a lot of monsters (once in FSC and once in a T3 Deconstruction zone).
Opening the chat menu and closing it will make it stop (I initually did this to see if it would spam my chat with a letter, as I've had that bug before too), but as soon as I order it to attack on the same floor it'll start auto attacking again, it stops once I've gone to a new floor. Pushing/spamming the button on purpose during cooldown does not cause it to start auto attacking.
It may be worth noting in my case that my usb ports are a bit flaky and don't take too well to doing things that require more work from them (ex updating an ipod or using a portable harddrive). So I don't know how helpful my input is but it's still worth adding to the pool I suppose.
You're right helios, let's trial and error and this the proper way instead of speculation on it purely. Thanks for aligning this thread back away from my discussion. Do we have an open bug on the key glitching for chat though?
1) Analog
2) No
3) Z, X, and C
4) Right mouse button, Movement keys (WSAD), Shield (Space), and Vials (1, 2, 3, 4), Toggle Auto Target (Left Control Key).
I've found that if I press a Sprite Power Button a whole bunch during a loading screen, that Sprite Power will be on autofire.
Every time.
@Grantgalitz
"Probably should stop continuing this and simply have people post what OS and JVM is being used. For instance, I'm on a mac, and I know another mac user who gets glitchy keys (and has been) for a long time. I know windows sk gamers who don't get this though."
I use a mac as well, and this has definitely been a problem for me. I constantly have trouble with my WASD's sticking, and then I just walk into fire/traps/trojans/thewall looking like a fool. I've found that pressing attack once, followed by mashing the stuck keys fixes the problem though, while the same strategy has no effect on my Battle Sprite.
Temp fix until the cause for this is tracked down is to just alt tab out of the game and come back in for some reason this will fix it.
Hanko: That's the trick as well if the game locks up the keyboard and mouse (command+tab to another program) on macs. We get general key and mouse lockups on macs in SK at random.
Playing on Vista, and random lockups occur often here as well; its especially frustrating when you are soloing a boss and now you cant use your character to move adequately (WASD lockups) or use your sprite properly. I remember random key lockups being a persistent bug since i started playing 2 years ago.
Also, alt tabbing to another program resets neither of the bugs in my case (or in the case of other players i know as well). Hope random sprite lockups doesnt become just another one of those bugs that persists for years to come.
I don't wish to come across as pushy or anything, but since I still have the same problem I've been having since day 1 of the battle spirits with auto-fire and haven't ounce been able to use my pet the way I wanted to in battle because of it; We any closer to seeing a fix on this? I just don't want this to become a forgotten bug is all... even an update on what's going on would be nice, it's been over 3 weeks since a lot of people reported this.
Yep. Except mine doesn't project the skills. I just do the pointing animation endlessly.
