The Mother of All Solutions for OOO Developers

... Open a Steam Workshop.
(Warning: Lots of words and guess-work ahead. If you do not like to read, there is a TL;DR at the bottom)
Now, I know this has probably been mentioned a few times throughout Suggestion threads and brought up plenty of times, so before you all rage at the bottom about why this wont work, I'd like to explain myself.
I've read many of the responses from admins on this forum (not on this particular subject, just other general topics) and they seem to be stretched thin. They struggling to make updates, they struggling to maintain forums, to respond to bug reports; everything dealing with this game. I can tell these guys work very hard to make all their players happy, but OOO just has too many demands from its players and too little time (and workforce) to meet those. We all want the developers to move onto the big things, like opening up the core, but they need a little help to do that. Of course, taking weight off the devs isn't my only support to this. There are a few other reasons
- Players want new levels.
Since the removal of energy requirements for the lift, many of the people I play with got really bored, really fast. Now, we all know the little prompt on the lift saying that we would never play any level more than once, but that simply can't be promised. They did give it their best shot, though.
- The levels could be used to make the community more involved with the game.
'' What do you mean by that? '' Well this is what I mean. Now, I'm sure there will be quite a few level designs posted once the workshop takes off, so here's what OOO could do to help filter out the good and the bad, letting their players contribute to the game: The levels will be uploaded, but not implemented into the game until they have gone through voting. I would say that the top 10 levels would be reviewed by the developers and once they're approved, they could put them on the beta server for players to actually test. Which brings me to my next point:
- The E Market just might stabilize!
To gain access to the beta testing server, people have to buy about $5 USD. Once it's seen that you could be testing once a month on levels designed by fellow players, I think more people would be more motivated to buy energy packs. Another thing to consider is that some of the levels that could be designed may be too large to just slip into the game (i.e. is large enough to stand alone as DLC.) I've seen some people make very cool things with the workshop, and I know there are a few special people out there who could pull this off.
(By the way, if this becomes a thing and someone could design levels, someone please do this: http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/87661 )
As I said before, by opening the workshop, OOO would have less on their plate. No more having to worry about making new levels for players, no more having to throw silly promos every two weeks to get players to by E, and no more having to worry about fixing the bugs or upping the spawn rates of things because of the promos. After the shop is opened, they can just focus on programming the opening of the Core (and hopefully new weapons and gear.) I know they'll still have to evaluate those designs, which is still work that would be taking away from the Big Picture, but if you look at the long-term effects, it would save so much time.
For the tired and/or brain-dead:
TL;DR:
1. Open Steam Workshop
2. Evaluate the top 10 voted by the community, & put whichever ones are approved on the Beta Server every 1-3 months (preferably 1)
3. Convert projects into new levels, new prestige missions, and/or new DLC
4.???
5. Profit.
As in any thread, leave a comment describing why or why not this would work.

I say open the workshop. However, this doesn't mean OOO is off the hook as far as makin' new stuff goes!

I thought OOO has been giving clear hints to opening the Core when they said that they are moving onto bigger and better things after the first Battle Sprite update? It may be taking away from the secrecy, but most of us want it. I'm sick of OOO being a gigantic tease about where the Recon team is and whether or not they're still alive. I WANT TO KNOW, AND I WANT TO HAVE KNOWN IT YESTERDAY.
Also, what do you mean by this?
'' I say open the workshop when work starts showing up. ''
You mean when people start posting a ton of things in the Treasure Vault thread or something? I'm not following you here.

@Doctorspacebar
Of course not! OOO should still develop its own things, but I'm just saying that it'd be great to have our cake and eat it too if you catch my drift.

couple questions before you continue onto details.
'' What do you mean by that? '' Well this is what I mean.
1 - Do you know how big OOO is as a company?
2 - Do you know what kind of workshop software you'd like to use to create said depths?
3 - Do you know how long it would take for OOO to make the software, not only that. But to make it user friendly enough for 13 years old to be able to use? Because that's how most workshop software are... User friendly deisgn software. Warcraft III editor and Starcraft I editor are good examples of that. Amazing user friendly map maker.
4 - What would this bring to OOO in long term? Community made depths? DLC? for hundreds of hours of work? (<--- because it takes even more time than that, look at TL2 GUTS, got out 4-5 months ago???, they have been working on it for almost a year (it's super amazing BTW, better than anything I've seen))
5 - What would non-steam user do? Most of game that uses the workshop are steam games only... (except cracks obviously)
Answer those questions and you might find out why there is no Steam workshop for SK and why there will be none.
Not that I'm against it though.... >.<

1st the core is a massive cage holding a sentient energy. It probably killed the Alpha squad when they entered due to radiation and heat.
2nd what I meant was I don't think we should bother with a steam workshop untill we have comunity made models or levels.

Why not let us design levels in Guild Hall, an addition like Guild Training Hall.
(They would be 'theory pay-out'; you don't get any loot you appear to get, only shown how much it would be if it were a real level.)
Alternately, players could purchase Editor space with Energy from supply depot. (If you don't like dumping it into Guild Hall expansions.) A promo that hands out Editor tickets (for space and items) with Energy Purchases on top of that could be nice too.
- You have to buy every item you want to use (once); crown sink.
- You have to have been around a bit (or dumped real cash in) to be able to do it; prevents new players making all loot levels.
- You can play all the newly created levels; free play testing.
- Those that turn out fun would be played a lot. Developers only have to check which levels get played a lot to see what they're like and then consider whether they're usable.
(I like making maps, if it's to be done in a usable editor. Here we already have Design Mode in the Guild Hall. Levels could be done in a similar way.)

Eye, Nick mentioned that guildhall development could be the precursor to level creation.
I say that cosmetics and monsters could be made on the workshop instead. Noobs make the levels and pros make the costumes.

Can anyone give a reason why NOT to give this a Steam Workshop? All I see is a change in artstyle. Worth it.

@ Realm and IT lol
@Retaeq I know what you're saying, and yeah I do agree now. I was only thinking about how the Steam community has these kind of things. It just keeps slipping my mind that there are serious players that don't play on Steam.
@Daycos Someone up there said that it would be immensely time-consuming to program the kind of software needed to make a level editor that's easy to use for all players. I'm not sure if that's true, but if it isn't, then I'd like for a petition to be put towards OOO to get this done already. I'm really tired of playing through the same levels with the same scenarios over and over and over again. It's why people are gradually quitting this game. The replay value is dropping because OOO is focusing more on grabbing new users than keeping their old ones, which is a terrible market strategy if they still want to even make some profit on this game. No new player is going to throw their money willingly into the screen for this. They're playing the game now because it's F2P & easy to get what they need without paying a cent. Older users understand the value of supporting the game and will buy DLC/energy packs when they can (or when it's convenient, like during promos.) So seerusly, OOO, just give us old farts what we want! You can't lose if you do because it'll still benefit you in the long term with old and new players! It'd even benefit them on shifting their attention to something more important, like a new mission set, new enemies to take down, new weapons that AREN'T reskins, and taking care of all those bugs that have been swept under the rug and put in the corner for the past year or so.
So who's with me?!?

Go through all the missions again (Except the unplayable ones) and beat them on ELITE.

I do that on a daily basis with low ranked guildies.
Why would they open the core? That would be like minecraft making worlds round and predefiend.
The core is like a mystery box. It loses its power when it opens.
Other then that how many actual coders play SK? I know some do sprite art but not many that I know of make game models or really plan out maps past the basic shape.
I say open the workshop when work starts showing up.
