SK's Super Brawl with some Hunger Games in it?

Ok, so I've finished reading the Hunger Games books a few weeks ago and recently I've started thinking about SK's PvP, and how it would be if there was a PvP mode where it was just a free for all match with none of those silly class modifier thingies.

Then I remembered some years ago, after Blast Network and Lockdown came out, stumbling upon this video. That game was called Super Brawl, and according to the Player vs Player page on the SK wiki:

"During the preview the PvP Coliseum looked like a gate terminal and featured a free-for-all game called Super Brawl that cost crowns to play. This game featured different brawling tiers. The type of equipment you equipped on your knight determined what Super Brawl tier you could play on. There was also Ultimate Super Brawl which allowed any type of equipment. The reward for the highest ranked player in each type was the Super Brawl Crown."

While the normal Super Brawl would be awesome to have, I couldn't help thinking about some alternate "tier", some kind of Survival Brawl or something along those lines that we would be able to choose if we wanted to test or really show off our mad skillz. Something like Super Brawl with Hunger Games elements: a large map where groups of 8, 10 or 12 players would fight to be the last man standing (and by that I mean that there would be no revives until the match ended). Matches would have a time limit, I guess five minutes would be more than enough for the match to sort itself out. If the clock reached 0 and there was still more than one person, then they would be forced to fight each other in an extra minute - to prevent them from not doing so and keeping the game going on forever, maybe they would get disqualified and the winner of the match would be the last knight that died during the normal game time. The maps could also have several traps that would be triggered at random times so regular players couldn't get the advantage of knowing the patterns (Maybe the traps could give some temporary buffs too, making the players have to decide between the risk of taking damage or getting a buff that might help them kill that annoying knight that's right on their tail).

Since Super Brawl had different tiers, the Survival version could have the same: tiers where you'd be thrown into matches depending on what gear you're wearing. But what about a fourth option? One for the daring knights that believe they can come out on top no matter what gear they have to handle themselves with? One mode that would make everyone start out in Proto Gear and then they'd have to rush to the centre of the map, where they'd have boxes and scattered gear waiting for them to pick up. The boxes would have one or two pieces for each weapon, armour and trinket slot, and then the knights would be able to pick up some extra goodies as they ran off to a safe place to inspect their box (maybe landing a few hits on a few knights as they make their escape). Small areas that would become closed off to other knights if they were already occupied would probably be a good idea, so the knights could change their gear without having to worry about getting killed if someone runs into them by chance.

To keep things "balanced" star wise, Tier 1 would give knights 1 star gear, Tier 2 would give 3 star gear and Tier 3 would give 5 star gear. That way people wouldn't be able to complain that they lost "because X had those 5 star weapons and I had these lame 4 star weapons!". Oh right, if a knight got killed then his gear would fall on the floor and others would be able to pick it up, as a kind of reward for the killer (or a stroke of luck if the knight dies in a trap and someone else finds his stuff :D).

I doubt OOO will actually do anything like this any time soon. I bet it'd be a huge load of work for them and I guess they're already busy with other stuff right now. But I thought I'd put it out there to know what other knights think, if it'd be a fun PvP experience for the ones that don't like Lockdown's team based gameplay unless it's in a Guild vs Guild match :p ..... That said, King Krogmo did made the Coliseum so monsters could be entertained by knights fighting each other. What better show than a huge free for all match with no revives, and possible random gear?

I know I'm bad at words. Sorry if some stuff is confusing, I'll try my best to explain it better if it's needed D:

We need it, and it's going to be so much fun!

EDIT:
One Suggestion though

What about when the time runs out, the living players are teleported to a death match room, filled with traps that will finsihed them off in a minute, how bout that?

I want to get a holy mackerel

I want to get a holy mackerel and senselessly beat down the people that said Super brawl was "unbalanced." This on the other hand sounds awesome. But waiting would seem like a pain for the players that die early, why not send them to have the option to super brawl in a smaller map to pass the time or spectate the game and watch the carnage? +1 which you deserve.

+1 but

The maps need to be huge. And how is Hunger games going to be implemented in the game(as in that i mean the beggining) will there be a grace period? Are there still enemies? Would it not be kind of annoying to chase down someone with MSI max? Just saying.

I have one thing to say about Hunger Games

All you fans made me hate it!
I read her book back when it wasnt even a best seller or had sequels.
I liked her book and how it had more of a corrupt government approach. Which the movie did not show too well.
And out of nowhere! You Twilight fans switch sides and go on about how awesome Hunger Games is! Get off the bandwagon!
----
+1 to you idea. Minecraft Hunger Games is fun. and thats unbalanced so i cant see how SK Hunger Games can get any worse.

Seems good all around. I often wonder what raw PvP would be like without LD or restrictions set from BN. I'm also curious if bombing was any good in Super Brawl. You made your point well, and I honestly don't see much wrong with the original Super Brawl, at the same time I fear it would be worse than LD, I just don't know. As for for when the time reaches zero, I suggest a Sudden Death along with Autofire. Likely involving transporting players to a specific part of the map, if not an entirely different but smaller map to finish each other. -OR- Simply have the the player with least damage win after the time limit runs out. This would be in with your original suggestion.

That being said, the uploader of that video is really conceited: "This is normally why I don't do PvP. I'm too powerful. And it worries me I might blatantly upset my friends! And that I won't upset people not in Guild with my intense mocking of them."
Passing him/herself off as humble by not playing as a display of mercy...

@Canine-Vladmir
Too mainstream for you? Kidding. Bandwagons have a knack of ruining well respected things that are at often times underrated, which is not the case because Hunger Games received praise from Stephen King among several newspaper publishers before it was a film. If WoW or LoL players migrated to SK, I'd probably react similarly.

"Water... gun"

Whoa, I half expected this to be ignored or bashed, to be honest :p

@Its-Some-Secret

"One Suggestion though

Yeah, that would be the ideal thing but I dunno how much extra work that would be since OOO would have to make the "teleporter" from scratch - since the game doesn't have one currently, AFAIK.

Purepwn did come up with a neat option in case the teleporter one can't be done and the DQ one is a bit too much: "Simply have the the player with least damage win after the time limit runs out." Obviously, that means the player with the least damage taken, not dealt :p

@Dekuinanutshell

"But waiting would seem like a pain for the players that die early, why not send them to have the option to super brawl in a smaller map to pass the time or spectate the game and watch the carnage?"

I knew I was forgetting to mention something when I made the post... But yes, the ones that died would obviously have a chance to leave and go to a different match (or do something else) and being paid for their participation if they rank high enough, or just sit back and watch the rest of the match and see who wins. I think that it'd be pretty fun to watch the rest of the match play out :p

@Sirius-Voltbreaker

Except you could only have Medium MSI at most, and even then you'd have to be lucky to get two of the four pieces that actually give MSI. And much like in LD, Battle Sprites wouldn't be allowed so you wouldn't get the MSI they can give. If you're talking about getting MSI Max from a buff... well, that's why the buffs would be temporary :P

As for the grace period, I put this on my starting post: "Small areas that would become closed off to other knights if they were already occupied would probably be a good idea, so the knights could change their gear without having to worry about getting killed if someone runs into them by chance."

I guess I could have explained that better, but I was a bit sleepy by the time I made that post. What I meant was that the map would have several areas that would only "house" one single knight and keep them safe while they change their gear. Maybe use the gate thingies that LD has for the bases. Except these would prevent attacks from the outside, so the knight wouldn't be hurt BUT they would also prevent the knight in it from attacking people on the outside. I mean, it'd be a pretty poopy match if some smarty-pants camped in his safe zone and sniped the other players dead without the risk of getting himself damaged.

@Canine-Vladmir

I dunno what's worse: you implying that I'm the kind of fan that gives books/games/whatever's community a bad name, or calling me a Twilight fan :p (Just for the record, I got this idea after reading the Hunger Games for the second time. My first time reading the books was in 2010, and it was because I saw the books on sale. I rarely read books or play games just because they have good or bad "reviews" :3).

That said:

"Minecraft Hunger Games is fun. and thats unbalanced so i cant see how SK Hunger Games can get any worse.

I'm willing to go out on a limb and say that the Hunger Games themselves are unbalanced. I never said this would be a fully balanced game mode, many things are left to luck. But I'd rather have luck deciding that I get killed by this or that guy with better gear than mine (or worse gear but moar skill), than being constantly killed by a Striker clone with Damage boost, ASI UVs and double Heart Pendants that make them have more HP than a Recon.

We need a new pvp that is free for all and not have restrictions or modifiers like BN or LD. I wouldn't even mind at all if we got super brawl back!

You can keep players interested in staying by offering multiple rounds, like best two out of three, and of course there are tiebreakers. The mode wouldn't be very interesting with just one life and then you're paid and you leave. They need an incentive to continue playing the match they waited for, so offering another round and by extension, another chance to win and play would compensate nicely.

I've been restless thinking about a new PvP game. OOO, if you can pull a PvP game off like this, don't be surprised seeing 10,000+ players playing Spiral Knights. Spiral Knights is missing the core PvP. This would be highly acceptable to many players. Players who loathe the imbalance of Lockdown, do not fear! For Super Brawl is back! Muahaha! OOO, you just keep throwing away the key elements of an astounding game.

First, the Shard bombs.

Second, moved the UI health bar to where you need to switch your vision to looking at the northwest part of the screen while paying attention to your character. My eyes hurt. OOO, please move the health bar to the bottom of the screen. Please, this will attract a load of players back.

Third, the removal of Super Brawl. Big mistake! It's like trashing your best work, and then thinking, "Why did I/we do that?"

Don't know why this keeps coming up, considering Lockdown is basically team Super Brawl, horrible imbalance and all.

Uhh... not really. Lockdown = swordies gliding around like cracklings fighting over CPs. Super Brawl = straight deathmatch using standard SK mechanics.

@ Warp-Master: Yeah lol Lockdown isn't like Super Brawl. Unless you think in Super Brawl that you are required to capture nodes and stand on bases, I agree.

I must disagree, however, because Super Brawl is defiantly not like Lockdown whatsoever, and if it was, then why would players even make a suggestion about it?

Is the part about "defeating" other players what you talk about? Well, it's called the "Coliseum" or "PvP", don't get me wrong on that, but the thing is PvP is meant to kill other players. Heck, even in Blast Network your bombs "defeat" the players, but in a stregoric way.

"Gizmoooo!"

@Purepwn

Yeah, I guess that'd be a good idea! At least the first ones to die in one round would have an opportunity to make up for it in the other rounds. Maybe at the end of the 3 rounds, the players with the highest number of wins could get some extra goodies (extra crowns or even a couple Sparks of Life or Heat Crystals, I dunno).

@Warp-Master

If I thought that Lockdown is team Super Brawl I wouldn't have bothered to make this thread. In fact, I've delayed creating the thread for about two weeks until I was sure that the two things were different :p

Yes, it's imbalanced as fudge, but come on the whole of SK is imbalanced. Like I said earlier (I think!), I'd rather be beaten down by someone with random gear that happens to be better than my random than be beaten by some Pay2Win Striker clone that has more HP than a Recon and keeps dashing around me poking me with their VH ASI and Damage toothpick :I Besides, people that are actually skilled would be able to beat people with better gear than them, so I bet lots of LD addicts would get their buns handed to them in silver platters as soon as they realized they had no Striker dash or UVs to save them. (In the randomized Super Brawl, at least, since the other tiers would allow knights to take their own gear and as such, any UVs they have).

Heck, in the random Super Brawl the players might use gear they never even considered crafting. If they like it enough they might even bother to go play in the Arcade to craft and level the item. This might just be me being too positive though :p
